Alpha Nocturneâs Contracted Mate by A E Randell Chapter 214 Youâve Fallen For Me?
âWeâll discuss the issue of Felixâs brother later on, but for now, I would request that you all treat him with respect whilst we work on the solution for the rogues.â Ann said as she allowed her gaze to drift slowly over Allen before settling on Lexi and frowning at the look of rebellion in her eyes.
âThat means you as well Lexi.â Ann continued with a meaningful look. Lexi snorted and rolled her eyes.
âIâll be civil, but heâll get no respect from me.â
âLexi you have to understand that in our position we sometimes have to hold onto our feelings and withhold our emotions in public.â Ann said softly as she approached her friend, âYou can rant and scream and cry in private, take your anger out on a punchbag at a gym, run until youâve worn yourself out, pretty much whatever it takes, but publicly, we have to remain calm in order to avoid reprisals.â
âYou might have to, but thankfully, I donât Iâm not a member of your royal family, Queenie, so none of your ridiculous rules and pompous ceremony will ever apply to me.â Lexi sneered, stepping away from Ann slightly and folding her arms defensively in front of her.
âLexi, donât be like this.â Ann said gently, her expression pained, âUnfortunately, whether you like it or not, you are a part of the royal familyâ
Lexi laughed, tipping her head back as she did so before meeting Annâs steady gaze with incredulity. âIâm about as far away from your family and the Enclaveâs twisted schemes as anyone here. Even the omegaâs here are closer to the s**t thatâs gone down than I am!â She snorted derisively âLexi, listen to me. You are my best friend and now, you are also mated to my mateâs Beta. Ordinarily, in pack circumstances, there would be a beta female and if we were still in only a pack, then that position would be yours. Adam is still the Alpha of the pack, and I am still the Luna, Allen is the Beta and you would be the Beta female.â
Ann explained gently, âBut our position now is more than just a pack role. We have our advisors here in the Enclave of course, but your role becomes even bigger Very slowly, as the realization dawned on her, Lexiâs face seemed to transform into a mask of horror.
âYou can f**k right off with that.â She whispered, âI donât want all this responsibility. I agreed to help with educating about Daemons, but not being dragged into the b*ulls*hittery of life at the royal court.â
Lexiâs eyes were wide with fear as she glanced between Allen and Ann. âWhy didnât any of you warn me? Do you think this is normal? Sleeping with someone, falling for them, and then all of a sudden youâre responsible for hundreds..waitâ¦f*****g thousands of people?!â Lexi murmured in a strained voice as she sank down into a chair.
Her face was incredibly pale and the enormity of what she was getting sucked into had suddenly dawned on her. âI knew you lot were all f****g insane on some level but I never thought that the rules would apply to me as well⦠Iâm a hybrid. Part Daemon and part witch for f**k sake! What the f**k do I know about the ins and outs of werewolf society!â She exclaimed, a distinct edge of panic to her voice that became more apparent the louder her voice got.
âYou⦠youâve fallen for me?â Allen stammered in shock as a stupid grin slowly broke through the dark scowl and spread across his face.
Orvar was jumping around excitedly inside of him as he stepped towards her, but the look on Lexiâs face, as she whirled to face him, stopped him in his tracks and he swallowed nervously.
âThatâs what you focused on out of all of that?!â Lexi hissed furiously.
Ann sighed and squatted down next to her friend, breaking her line of sight to Allen who was currently the focus of her ire and refocusing her attention.
âThis is how itâs always been in my worldâ¦our world, sweets. Iâve never held anything back when I spoke with you over the years.â
âButâ¦â
âThereâs no âbutâsâ Lexi,â Ann said gently as she smiled softly, her eyes drifting to Lexiâs neck to see if Allen had fully claimed her yet or not.
She groaned internally when she realized that Allen had not marked her and Maeve snorted in agreement. âIf he waits much longer, sheâs going to get cold feet and run a mile.â Maeve sighed as she rolled her eyes in exasperation.
âWhy is that boy so f****g dense? Iâm telling you, all of your lives would be so much f*****g easier if you just listened to your damn wolves.â she muttered.
Whilst privately she agreed with Maeve, she really hoped that Lexi wouldnât run away from this She knew that in her heart, Lexi was the most steadfast and loyal person and that it was always serious commitment that spooked her ..when it came to men at least.
Perhaps it was the same when it came to the trajectory of life. All Ann could do was make sure that she was as well informed as possible, and trust that once she knew what she was getting herself into, she would make the right decision. Ann took a deep breath and with a heavy heart tried her best to formulate the information in a way that wouldnât send her running for the hills.
âLook, I know this isnât easy for you, sweets. Itâs a lot to take in, I know .â
âf*****g understatement of the centuryâ¦â Lexi muttered as Ann continued undaunted, âBut, as soon as you accept Alienâs mark, Lexi, then you will officially become the Dark Moonâs Beta female, and not just my best friend, but my right-hand woman when it comes to matters at court. Youâll sit beside me at councils if needed, run things back at Dark Moon and if needed, at some point in the future, perhaps even act as envoy.â
Ann explained gently as the worried expression on Lexiâs face only seemed to increase.
âThere might be times when I have to leave as envoy and you will either join me at my side, or you will remain here and keep those crusty old men in line.â Ann continued, her heart leaping a little when the corners of Lexiâs mouth twitched upwards slightly despite her concern.
âI mean⦠keeping them in line at least sounds like fun.â Lexi offered quietly before sighing and throwing her head back as she stared at the ceiling.
Ann waited patiently for her to continue and sure enough, with a sigh, Lexiâs shoulders dropped and she met Annâs gaze once more with an uncertain expression.
âItâs just⦠f****g overwhelming, Ann.â she tried to explain, her anger and snarkiness seemed to have melted away for a moment, and for the first time in a long time, Ann saw the vulnerability and uncertainty of the little girl that she once knew well.
âAt least try to see it from my point of view. Iâm going from swanning about doing what I want, when I want, to being tied to at least one guy for the rest of my life, and on top of that, Iâm going have to sit and listen to boring old t***s waffle on about s**t that bores me and Iâm not even allowed to tell them what I think or dish out what they deserve I feelâ¦â Lexi paused as she thought of a way to explain, âI feel like Iâm going to be caged and suppressed⦠and I donât want that I am me. I canât be something that Iâm not.â
