Feeling her inside twisted while she kept her face still, Lorelei reprimanded herself internally she knew it was not a good idea to accompany her friend but he plead so much that she finally indulged forgetting that he was not just a normal person but the kids of Zurow Alister their ruler.
The tension was so unbearable that Lorelei thought about cutting it with her table knife. Hiding a smile, she admonished herself. Only her could joke when people were staring at her like she was a golddigger which she rolled her eyes at before putting her head up, not before Katiandra caught it but chose to say nothing.
"I'm twenty seven and..."
"Twenty seven and you're in your third years? Excuse me but isn't it a little old to be in college?"
In a condescending tone Lincoln asked followed by Kayley and his father nodded supporting his comments, their disappointment was an understatement. If she really was what they thought she was, there would be no chance of that potential relationship to be redeemed.
"It may be dear brother... When you are not a genius. You are speaking to a lawyer in flesh! THE best around in PORYS and according to dad chief lawyer she has her place amongst the greatest in the human history of law. A PRODUCT of Zurow High Class University. THE best of our promotion my dear brother! That is how we met Mom, she worked with me for two years at the firm then decided to go back to school."
Wiping his lips swallowing the last meal in his mouth the smug face he always has when he was right plastered on his face. It was a chance his mother did not reprimanded him for speaking with food in his mouth. She was clearly preoccupied searching her memory for information she could not find with a bit of help, feeling generous he leaned back in his seat crossed arms.
"Actually we first met when she was sixteen going to seventeen we did all the four years of undergraduate studies being just classmates AND I emphasize the fact that her parents forced her! she didn't have to. Something about how she was too young. Then came the three years of law school after that the practice at the firm where we develop a friendship. That will do nine years. She stopped working to do what she preferred, ancient civilization. See... A genius!"
After her son explanation silence filled the room awestruck by what he said. At the same time Katiandra did the maths remembering. The smile back on her lips she patted the woman hand making her slightly jumped at the electrifying contact which already had the older woman addicted.
"I remember now nine years ago the Dean met me to show me your dad request to have your initials rather than your name on the role in classes and in the system. It was an unusual demand but you entered the university with a scholarship I put in place for genius student that met my standards. I have to say you still are the only one in the program. That is why your name does not figured in my class list, you have the same courses but you make your exams online."
Studying the young woman face as she nodded, she saw no trace of discomfort, only the redness of earlier, she met her gaze with no problem in a battle of the one who will win, certainly out of respect she lowered her head taking a sip of her water another thing the older woman remarked was she never touched her glass of wine. Without as much as a word she kept eating leaving them the choice to speak or not. Feeling warm under the older woman praise, for once she allowed it to touch her heart.
"I'm proud of you really. You really are a bright woman and one that does not like to be seen. Now that I can see the big picture, you are the student always sitting near the emergency door?"
Clapping his hands bingo! Alfred laugher filled the room yet again.
"That will be her! I told you she will see through your game Lorelei. She did."
"Why did you stopped your work as lawyer?" Desiring to learn more about her, the Queen asked more and more surprising her family. That much talking was a scare thing coming from her, they just shut up waiting the answer.
"It was a deal with my parents. I always preferred history but they wanted me to do something more 'valuable' , law run in our family like blood in humans. we made the deal where I will first do law then if I'm still wanting to do history I was allow to do so. I put it out of my way and now in some months I'll have my bachelor's degree in ancients civilization."
The smile she had on got on katiandra more than she could say. It was clear that she loved the topic and as supposed she certainly had all the credit to have her diploma.
Looking up she saw how her husband looked at her as if she was a piece of meat. Breathing in she exhaled slowly jealousy burning her body, she could not allowed him to have her not this time. Never.
"This is insane! Mom that means that you paid for all her college scholarships. Whoa! In a way she is your protégé." Alicia point was valid enough to make what she had in mind work. Blessed child.
"NOW do NOT think her parents could not do it. They are more than load." Frowning his index up Alfred said to no one in particular. Knowing how people mind worked sometimes. "Her parents are now retired but did good in theirs lives. The program just fit her standard, and protect her from the rashness of the world."
"Soon enough you will be on your own. What are you planning to be doing then? I suppose history does not have many way of work. We could do something to make it less of a burden" More respectful, a bit ashamed of what he did before, Lincoln asked her really concerned.
"Brother do not worry that is to come. No need to rush now. There is always a way right Lorelei. In fact that is her motto." Nodding the young woman added nothing even thankful to have him answering everything for her.
"That is real for the everything. How about we meet tomorrow in my office to discuss it further I do not want you to feel cornered here miss Kamali." The sweet voice of Queen Alister like the poking of a lame felt too weird to be true getting to Lorelei hammering heart. The constant weird activity in her chest being the only thing that reminded her she was not dreaming.
"I think that you should think about it all. How about you guys come to work with me? Hmm Alfred tomorrow we could talk about a solution."
"That will not be necessary Arthur. Miss Kamali is already as Alicia placed it my protégé and apparently does not like to work in an office, that is all lawyer do. I did not mention that I was also from Ireland? Did I? So now she is my problem. Eat your food dear and sorry for all the questions. It was just to know you better as a person. I have to admit Alfred that I approve your friend."
Smiling big the young man shook his head, even if he did not know they had the same origins everything turned out good.
"How did you managed to finish law and practice before going back in history? I don't know if I can do that. It is a lot of studies."
Staring at Alicia Scarlett the younger of Mrs Alister, sitting in front of her, Lorelei shrugged swallowing a bit of her water thoughtfully thinking about the last years of her life she never thought of them as hard working days but as a way to pass the time.
"With dedication you can do everything. That is another one of my motto. I try my best to follow lt. Plus I really like law, as I said before my parents was lawyers, like theirs parents before them. I always like it alright. So Why?"
"Where are they now?" Mr Zurow asked puzzled drinking his wine.
"The are somewhere around the globe. I don't really know. As soon as I was out of law school working for one year all, they retired to do what they always wanted to do but had to wait for me to be able to take care of myself. Travel around the world."
In awe the Zurow sisters stared at her processing, Lincoln mouth felt difficulties to utter words again after his belittling comment at the beginning of the dinner followed with the rebuttal on the work issue.
"Why did you practice if they weren't there to force you." Interested by her answer their mother turned her face to her left drowning herself in the mesmerizing beautiful eyes that squinted  before looking at Alicia curious eyes, waiting for an answer.
"They made me promise."Â The simple phrase was everything the older woman needed to be reassured. It was said so nonchalantly that it did not required a lot of reflections.
As soon as the dinner finished they migrated to the spacious living room where they sat on the couches artistically spread on the beautiful place.
Lorelei end up sitting near Mrs Alister in the much smaller one to not arrange it her daughter Alicia sat to the other side making her scouted near the young lady theirs knees touching every now and then.
Katiandra could not pinpointed what was going on in her, it was crazy put above her own will, the sight of Lorelei thigh as her dress had a cut that moved up had her inside pinched stroking a nerve in her. Her reaction was purely animal she wanted to control herself but another force had her hand on her knee as she would have do with her daughter's but the girls reaction was not the one her daughter would have had. She almost squirmed under the touch.
"Tell me do you speak fluently Irish?" The sentence was spoke in Irish catching the young woman attention, the way the language rolled on the older woman tongue was so sensual that it shook her to the core making her shivered.
Smiling as the movement did not go unnoticed by the older woman who squeezed her thigh where her hand was placed initiating a burning sensation on both their bodies. It was risky to be doing it where everyone could see them but Katiandra did not wanted to loss her chance with the girl.
Shaking her head slightly at the word 'chance' the older woman removed her hand to take theirs glass of wine practically removing it from the frozen young woman hand which had their hands entered in contact for the second time, the same thing happened leaving the both of them panting.
"Who asked you to serve wine for her? Alfred seriously? I thought you were more observant than that. I do not know your friend for long but I certainly do know she does not drink liquor. Why will you force her to do things she does not want? Bring her the same as Alicia."
The maid nodded as told letting them in an atmosphere full off tension, Alfred sat there not knowing what to say his father in his left patted his hair not liking the way she was talking to her son in front of his girlfriend.
Kayley chuckled downing her wine in one motion having a man refill it rapidly.
"And there is Mama Bear out brother thanks you for bringing your 'friend' home brother. Mother already adopted her. Sorry you won't see her undies if you intended of doing it. No offense Lorelei." Smiling big she leaned back in her couch her glass glue to her lips.
"Oh you think it is funny? Mom has the right to be happy to see someone of where she come. You know how rare it is here to see someone from there let alone having them be from the same background as you? Please finish your bottle of wine as you know how to do it. No offense sister." Feeling angry at her sister comment toward their guest Alicia fired back.
"Girls stop it immediately! I, no Kayley! I do not want to hear you. The both of you. Alicia! Lorelei is still here. Did I misheard or did you say you were friends?" Her eyes meeting Lorelei the woman just nodded struggling with words under the older woman intense gaze.
"Anything happened between you two? Is he your boyfriend?" All the family was astonished by the way the language they never heard was spoken by the older woman and Lorelei head movements prove that she understood what she was talking about.
"Use your words." Still in the foreign language she commanded looking straight in the young woman unsettled eyes.
"No. We never did anything, your son is just my friend platonically." The answer came out in the same language having the older woman heart melting on the spot.
Applying small taps on her thigh she took the young woman sweaty hand in hers, internally smiling at the way her body was reacting to hers. Not caring about the fact she would have find disgusting in another person, she squeezed her hand in hers looking at all the family.
"Apparently you are not involved in anything out of friendship. I hope you know how to treat your friend because I certainly will not take it well if it was the reverse with miss Kamali. I was her mentor from the moment she entered in my program and I still am, that means you cannot be involve with her in another way."
Laughing Kayley muffled the sound with her vacant hand while Lincoln looked at his mother wide eyes his arms opened in front of him.
"Mother! This is ridiculous. They are both adults if they want to..."
"Lincoln I do not know if you see the bigger picture of this. I taught you better. I paid for her tuition in the best elite university of the country which I happen to still manage, over ministries that resented me for that. We signed a contract to assure the protection and security of miss Kamali when she first started there I did it myself, it clearly stated that as far as she was under Zurow university scholarship we were responsible of her well-being now what happen if things turned bad between you?"
Arthur walked towards the fireplace one hand in his pocket the other holding his wine.
"Your mother is right son, if things get bad I could not control that. I believe Miss Kamali is list on international student class, and we cannot have them on our back."
Recalling certain term of the scholarship his wife put in placed years ago, Arthur stated serious for once. At his son defeated face the man took a sip of his vine thinking miss Kamali would have been a good asset for his younger son.
Irritated by their insensitivity of talking about someone like a property, the Queen hand caressed the Lorelei back.
Calming her.
"She is still here! Stop acting like she is not relevant. And for what she told me there is nothing going on! God, sorry for putting you through this. If you want to go home my men will do it right away." Meeting the Queen stare Lorelei could only nodded at what she was saying.
