“Something held me back.” Dolores explained.

“Get in touch with me on the phone.” Terry gestured towards Dolores, which meant call someone on the phone, “If you need to use a car, you can call me too.”

Perhaps because they now had a common enemy, the two moved closer together.

Dolores nodded.

“Okay. Go take care of your business now. I need to work too.” Terry waved his hand and drove away.

If he didn’t work, he wouldn’t be able to make ends meet.

“Lola, who was that?” asked Theresa curiously.

She was curious how Lola could make a friend if she took a cab.

Dolores didn’t want to explain further on this matter, so she smiled slightly, “What a hurry you’re in. Who came to pick me up?”

Teresa patted her head, “I’d almost forgotten.” She dragged Dolores over, “I’ve got her waiting in your office. This is a mess. Only your office is in better shape.”

Or there would be no place here that could entertain a guest.

Dolores was curious as to who was coming to get her.

“Who is it, man or woman?” She had no friends in this country besides Sampson.

“A lady. She said she was Mrs. Nelson. She looked beautiful and elegant too.” Theresa looked at Dolores’s face secretly.

Her ex-husband was Matthew Nelson.

Was this Mrs. Nelson her ex-mother-in-law?

Dolores frowned. Mrs. Nelson?

When she and Matthew married, there was no wedding and no ceremony. She hadn’t even met Matthew’s family.

Mrs. Nelson?

But as far as she knew, Mrs. Nelson died a long time ago. It was… Dolores seemed to have figured it out.

Coral said earlier that Matthew’s father remarried not long after his mother passed away.

Only she could say she was Mrs. Nelson.

But what did he want from her?

Dolores was filled with confusion.

“She was here. Call me when you need me.” Theresa led Dolores to the door of her office and didn’t plan to enter.

Dolores nodded. When Theresa left, she opened the door.

Although the office was clean and rearranged, there was only a desk, a sofa, and a tea table. The floor was swept. The whole office looked empty. And there was no tea or water either.

A woman in an elegant suit was standing in front of the French window. Dolores did not see her face and only saw that her body was kept in good shape. Her long hair was combed into a bun.

The woman heard something and looked back to see Dolores standing in the doorway. She timidly asked, “Are you Dolores?”

When the woman turned around, Dolores saw her face. Although that woman had stood the test of time, Dolores could still see how pretty and outstanding she was.

That woman crossed her hands over her abdomen. She wore an Omega wristwatch. A black purse hung from her arm. She wore a plaid dress and a pair of black high heels.

She wore no jewelry or additional accessories. Her attire was simple, but exuded the beauty of elegance and wisdom.

“Yes, it’s me.” Dolores walked in, “What do you want from me, I’m not close to you.”

Victoria smiled slightly, “When you married Matthew, we were supposed to get to know each other, but…” As things were not going well between Matthew and them, Matthew was reluctant to take Dolores home.

After getting the marriage certificate, Jayden called Matthew and asked him to take Dolores home. But the request was refused.

It was also Matthew’s decision when they divorced. They found out about the divorce after it happened.

Dolores understood and smiled, “I know.”

After all, their marriage was a business. It was normal for Matthew not to introduce her to their families.

“Please, have a seat.” Dolores held out her hand to show Victoria to the couch.

Victoria nodded and sat down on the couch.

Dolores sat down across from Victoria. She did not speak first and waited for Victoria to speak.

Victoria came to get her. She must have needed something from her.

Victoria looked over Dolores, who looked young and beautiful, and asked, “Did I hear that when you married Matthew you were only 18?”

Dolores nodded, “Yes.”

Then there was two seconds of silence.

“You know Matthew was going to get engaged?”. asked Victoria.

As she spoke, Victoria fixed her eyes on Dolores’ face to observe the change in her expression.

Dolores answered truthfully, “Yes.”

“But then he called off the engagement – do you know that too?”

“Yes.” Dolores looked down slightly and thought about why Victoria came looking for her.

Judging by her voice, Dolores knew it must have something to do with Matthew.

“Do you know why she called off the engagement?” Dolores knew nothing of this.

She raised her head and looked at Victoria, “I don’t know.”

Dolores pointed to her office, “You’ve seen him. I just got back from overseas. I don’t know much about what has happened in this country. We’ve been divorced, so I can’t know anything else.”

Although they had no divorce certificate, Dolores believed in her mind that they were divorced.

She remembered when Matthew said, “Let’s get a divorce.”

After uttering that sentence, their marriage ended.

Victoria was surprised, “You don’t know anything about that?” She clearly didn’t think Dolores didn’t know, “He called off the engagement for you. Don’t you know?”

This time it was Dolores who was surprised.

Wasn’t that silly?

“I think there must be some misunderstanding. We’ve been divorced for many years, how could he do that for me?”

Victoria shook her head. The misunderstanding didn’t exist. Thomas did some research and discovered that Matthew called off the engagement to Maria after seeing Dolores in A-Country.

This could be the case. They had married and grown fond of each other. When Matthew was reunited with her, he realized that he loved her. The old love returned, so he called off the engagement to Mary.

“I’m sure you’ve heard of the Nelson Family and also the Herbert Family. Both are prestigious families in B-town. If they are connected by marriage, it will be a win-win cooperation. It will do the Herbert Family and the Nelson Family good.” Victoria’s voice was gentle and soft. She looked at Dolores, “Before he went abroad and met you, he was willing to marry Miss Herbert. They both had a long history. And both families attached great importance to this marriage.”

“So you’ve come to ask me to leave Matthew?” Dolores could neither cry nor laugh, “I think you must have misread the situation. We are not together at all.” They were not lovers from the beginning.

Victoria really made a mistake in coming to her.

Victoria frowned slightly, “You’re not together?”

Dolores nodded and said firmly, “No.”

“He stabbed himself…to call off the engagement. I didn’t see it. I heard it from Jayden. Matthew stuck a fruit knife in his chest…to call off the engagement.”

“What?” Dolores immediately stood up.

So he stabbed himself in the chest like this?

He stabbed himself – was he crazy?

Victoria watched Dolores’ reaction in silence. Dolores didn’t seem to know anything about this.

“Why did he do it?” Dolores was confused.

“The engagement between him and Miss Herbert was in the news, which meant that the two families would have business interaction in the future. He was the one who called off the engagement. So he had to take on some responsibilities. Besides, Miss Herbert accidentally saved him when they were children and has been by his side for a long time. The cancellation would reflect very badly on Miss Herbert. Matthew must feel guilty for her.” So when Mary said she wanted his life, he literally stabbed himself.

He wanted to pay his debts for her.

As she spoke, Victoria sighed, “It sounded like Mary loved Matthew very much. I heard she broke down after the cancellation.”
