Andrew was about to approach when Dolores said from the kitchen, âAndrew, do Mom a favor, okay?â
âOkay.â Andrew headed into the kitchen and Dolores pointed to the green onions in the basket, âCan you help mom peel some green onions, please?â.
Andrew took the green onions and gave Dolores the answer with his actions.
By the time Andrew had peeled the green onions, Dolores had already cooked the wontons. She took the green onions that Andrew had peeled, washed and chopped them and put them in the bowls. The soup for the wontons was made in the bowl directly. He put some shrimp, oil, a little soy sauce and chopped green onions in the bowl. Then, he added some soup to mix it all together. Finally, he put the wontons in the bowl. Then the wontons were done.
âWash your hands. Itâs time to eat,â Dolores said to Andrew. She placed the bowl with the wontons on the plate so he wouldnât burn his hands.
Andrew already smelled the wontons and didnât have time to look at the âdummyâ. He washed his hands, sat in the chair at the table and waited for his dinner.
The wonton soup smelled good from the oil. The shrimp added a fresh flavor to the wontons. The wonton wrappers were made of dietary alkaline so they were very soft. Dolores brought the bowls over to them for the two children and then offered Oscar one of the two remaining bowls: âIf you donât have enough, Iâll make you something else.â
Dolores had no idea he was coming back so soon. She figured Oscar would be back with Theresa, so she didnât prepare too many wontons. She worried that he wouldnât have enough with just one plate of wontons.
Oscar waved his hand and said with a smile, âNo need. I already ate some on the plane. This is enough. Iâm sorry I stole yours.â
He looked at the two children and asked, âAre these enough for you?â
Amanda licked her lips and looked at Oscar with a smile. Then she said sweetly, âMr. Adams, when I finish my wontons later, can you take me for a walk, please?â
He wanted to eat ice cream, but Mom wouldnât buy it for him. Mom said too much ice cream was bad for her stomach, but she wanted it so badly.
Andrew knew instantly what Amanda wanted to do. So he said, âI want to go too, take me with you.â
He wanted to eat ice cream too, especially after eating hot wontons.
Dolores frowned, âWhat do you guys want, huh?â
âOh, we just want to take a walk outdoors to help digestion after eating so much.â
Amanda pouted and looked at Andrew, âRight, bro?â
Andrew cooperated with her rarely, âYes, itâs good for our bodies to take a walk after eating.â
Dolores wanted to say something else, but Oscar said first, âWell, they just want to go out. You donât have to worry about me following them.â
As Oscar said it, she couldnât say no. After dinner, Dolores cleared the dishes from the table and Oscar put a flash drive on the table, âThis is the video I let record at the scene. Watch it when you have time. You should be there, itâs very nice. Itâs a shame you werenât there.â
I was here to hand this to Dolores. She sighed, âThis is the fruit of two months of your hard work. I really canât understand why you donât want to show up.â
Dolores bowed her head and did not explain. She merely said faintly, âDonât take them away too long. Come back soon.â
Oscar said, âOkay.â
Dolores went to the kitchen with the bowls. The two children had already put on their shoes. Now they could take care of themselves.
Oscar took them outside. When they got on the elevator, he said, âWhat do you want?â
He had been with these two children for more than two months. For a walk? It was clear that wasnât his style.
Amanda smiled, took Oscarâs hand, shook it and said sweetly, âWe just want some ice cream.â
Oscar rubbed her hair, âI knew they wouldnât be conscientious about taking a walk after dinner. Whenever they have time, they stay home watching TV. Whenever I ask them to go out, they always say itâs too hot outside. Now you want to eat ice cream and you donât think itâs hot outside?â
âIce cream is cold. When we eat ice cream, naturally weâre not hot anymore,â Andrew said.
With a clink, the elevator stopped at this point, and Oscar led them out of the elevator.
He laughed and rubbed Andrewâs head, âYouâre so smart.â
As they left the neighborhood, Amanda immediately saw the man standing on the opposite side of the road answering the phone. Although the manâs back was to her and she didnât see his face, she recognized his back. She immediately shouted, âDad.â
Matthew, who was on the phone with Abbott, heard her voice and turned to see the two children in the neighborhood driveway. Amanda let go of Oscarâs hand and ran across the street, calling out to her father as she ran.
âWatch out,â Oscar shouted. It was too dangerous to run across the street.
At that moment, there was a car speeding not far away. Amanda didnât see the car and all she could think about was running in Matthewâs direction. They hadnât seen each other in over two months. Now, she was finally seeing her father. She was afraid that if she was late, he would disappear.
She loved her father. She even forgot about the ice cream, let alone the danger.
The car was fast. The driver didnât expect someone to suddenly rush down the shoulder and slam on the brakes. However, the car did not stop immediately.
At the last moment, when Amanda was about to be run over, a dark figure picked up Amandaâs small body like the wind. As he lifted her up, the car brushed past them.
If Matthew had been a little later, Amanda would have been hit by the car. The car stopped a short distance away.
Oscar was quick to kick the car, cursing, âWhat the hell, are you blind? How dare you drive so fast in front of the neighborhood?â
The driver was also shocked. He didnât expect someone to suddenly rush into the road.
Since the driver didnât move, Oscar kicked the car again. Immediately a dent appeared on the car door, âGet out of the car!â.
The driver trembled with fear and opened the door with a pale face.
Oscar was normally cheerful and seemed to have no bad temper, but he was very scary when he got angry. He was mostly angry because his bottom line was crossed.
Who was Amanda? She was Doloresâ daughter. Who was Dolores? She was the daughter of her older brother whom she had always respected. Just now, because of this driver, Amanda was almost in danger. How could he not be angry!
If something was really wrong with Amanda, how could he explain it to Dolores?
Amanda, who was being held in Matthewâs arms, was so frightened that she didnât respond for a long time. She was dazed and clearly terrified.
Matthew stroked her back and said softly, âItâs okay. Daddy is here. Donât be afraid.â
Amanda immediately cried as she remembered the scene she had just witnessed.
Amandaâs cries brought Oscar, who was furious, back to his senses. He glared at the driver, âIf it had been earlier, I would have beaten you to death. Stand still and donât try to escape. There is surveillance right in front of the neighborhood.â
After that, Oscar hurried to check on Amanda. By this time, she was sobbing in Matthewâs arms and still crying, âDaddy, Iâm scared.â
Matthew kissed her on her face. As she was crying with tears all over her face, Matthew was left with the salty taste. But she didnât mind, on the contrary, it hurt him more. His lips brushed the corners of her eyes and he said softly, âDonât be afraid. Daddy is here.â
At the word daddy, Amanda cried even harder. She felt so wronged.
