The man who was studying the document finally raised his head.

Charles had hit on this man’s weak spot and was driving a blade through his heart. Charles was sure that, if he mentioned Dolores, Matthew would no longer be so indifferent and composed as he worked and ignored him.

“If my guesses are correct, I’d say most of those problems I faced recently were your doing, wouldn’t you?” Charles continued, “Mr. Nelson, are you a miser or don’t you trust your wife?”

Matthew looked unconcerned as he tossed a pen on the desk, which made a metallic sound. That sound was especially sharp in that atmosphere of absolute silence, as if signaling some uneasiness. He was probably feeling congested, as a film of sweat covered his sculpted arms. He removed his tie and replied, “Mr. White, you seem to be in high spirits lately. You seem to have too much time on your hands since you’re sticking your nose into other people’s business.”

Charles had put aside his weariness. He wasn’t having an easy time of it lately, as it was no simple task to end that problem. He had not come all this way to unburden himself to Matthew.

Initially, he wanted to do it for Dolores. He wanted to know what big thing had happened to Matthew that forced him to leave his pregnant wife alone and take their child with him.

When she heard about the Jeffery affair, it was natural for her to want to know the full extent of it.

“Lola has tried every means in her power to hide the truth from you, but in the end you ended up knowing the truth. That affair with Jeffery must be your doing, right?” Charles purposely put him to the test.

He was in the dark as to the details of this ordeal, so he could only throw out guesses based on the clues he had.

As he offered his guess, another idea popped into his mind. Could it be that Matthew resented Dolores for keeping that from him back then? Was that the reason Dolores decided to leave?

Other than that, nothing came to mind.

His tone became more sarcastic: “Once a girl is married to a man, should she be faithful to him no matter what the circumstances? I really feel sorry for her.”

Matthew’s expression began to harden as he finally began to show some underlying emotion. He said nothing as his face darkened.

Charles held back as he did not want to force the issue to an insurmountable situation. He took the initiative and broke this logjam, “I am here to thank you, Mr. Nelson. I hope Jeffery can meet his end this time, and that would certainly give my stepfather, who is in heaven now, some comfort.”

Matthew was about to burst out when his said in an icy voice, “Thank me?

Why did I perceive provocation in your voice?”.

Charles continued his flattery, “Mr. Nelson, don’t be angry. As a token of apology, I will reveal a fact. Lola has long known Victoria’s identity. She was thinking of her name for hiding that, fearing that you could not accept it, fearing that you could not accept that all along she was hating her birth mother. So, I’m sure, with her intelligence, she must have sensed something. As for why he kept himself in the dark, I think only you know why.”

In fact, he had come to Matthew because he wanted to resolve the conflict between Dolores and Matthew. He didn’t want to see Dolores suffer while raising her son alone.

Little did he know, however, the issue he had raised did not create the conflict that existed between Matthew and Dolores.

Matthew rose from his chair and stroked his rumpled shirt. He lost none of his aura as he said in a commanding tone, “Mr. White, you not only know a lot. But your know-it-all face is very off-putting.”

Charles laughed, “Is that so?”

“Mr. White, your subordinates are really loyal. I wonder if they would give in if you offered them better benefits and a higher salary. In fact, I’m very interested in the talent you have on your hands.” He was able to dig a hole for Charles and inflict serious damage to the White Group, but the only thing he regretted was not stealing from Charles’ subordinates.

However, he believed that there was no man in the world who was infallible to seduction. If he wished, he could even tear a hole in a huge mountain.

The two continued to intertwine their gazes for some time and the very air itself froze. Matthew was the first to chuckle as he fiddled with the pen on his desk, “I was just kidding, why did you look so upset?”

Charles’ face was menacing as he said nothing in response.

Only after some time did he finally seem more relaxed, “I’ve already sacrificed what I wanted most, what else is there not to give up? It’s only the White Group, if you feel like it, I can wholeheartedly cede the whole company to you. The thing is, I can’t respect you at all. If I were you, no matter what kind of devastating affair it is, I would never let my wife abandon me. In my eyes, you are weaker than me.”

After saying that, Charles maneuvered his wheelchair in the direction of the office door. When he reached the door, he paused, “If I wasn’t disabled, and if she didn’t already have someone she loved, I would definitely fight this war with you to the end.”

Charles was going to leave WY Group anyway, but his initial plan was to leave the company after seeing Matthew, but after learning of the ordeal with Jeffery, he didn’t leave yet. Instead, he went to look for Jayden, and only after his trip did he learn that Jayden was not in B-town. He had gone to White City with Kevin.

Thinking that Matthew had learned the truth, it wouldn’t be easy for Jeffery, so Charles didn’t want to waste his time here, as he had no one to back him up in B-Town, which prevented him from making Jeffery’s situation even worse and dealing him a devastating blow. All that was left for him to do was to wait patiently for the end of Jeffery’s reign.

He did not personally go to City C to negotiate cooperation with Chester. Instead, he had sent his manager to negotiate for him.

Tom could not understand Charles at all. Charles had rushed to City B, but had returned without having done anything, and now that Charles didn’t even want to go to City C, which puzzled Tom.

Didn’t Charles have feelings for Dolores? Wasn’t that a difficult opportunity to take advantage of?

“Isn’t Mrs. Flores in C-Town? Why are we going back to White City?” Tom realized that he could no longer understand this man.

What was this man thinking deep down?

In the past, he used to be of the opinion that one should not go after a married woman.

However, Charles seemed to be strangely persistent all the time. Now that an opportunity had presented itself, contrary to expectation, he was no longer going after her.

Tom felt that Charles’ mind was even deeper than the ocean. It was even harder to understand than a woman.

Charles was looking out the window at that moment. Actually, he wasn’t lingering at all anymore. He was too late. Fate did not bring him together with Dolores, and it was his mistake from the beginning to set eyes on the wrong person. He understood very well that, although Dolores did not harbor many feelings for Matthew, they still shared three children.

Matthew, they still shared three children between them. It was a difficult bond to sever.

In the end, for the sake of their children, those two would end up entwined with each other.

All she could do was let go. As long as she could be happy, there was no need for him to desire her presence at his side. After all…

He looked down and saw her crippled body, which would never allow her to walk like a normal person again, and sorrow flashed in his eyes.

How was he going to give her happiness with his body?

He imagined himself as an executioner in his past life who had too much sin on his hands. Therefore, fate wanted to punish him in his present life by taking away his legs, and taking away his love.
