Inside was an envelope.
Dolores reached in and pulled out the envelope. She opened the sealing thread and pulled out what was inside the envelope. There were two letters in it. One said âDear Jeffery, my brother,â while the other didnât indicate who the letter was for. Dolores didnât expect anything when she opened the safe deposit box. However, when she saw the letters, she frowned and her hands shook.
Dolores knew the letters were written by Jolene when she saw the words âDear Jeffery, my brother.â
Dolores calmed down and continued to pull out what was in the envelope.
She saw a document. It was the JK Group Equity Agreement.
Dolores had never heard of the JK Group. Based on what the Agreement said, JK Group was a company limited by shares. However, there were not many shareholders for the company because the Equity Agreement Dolores held in her hands was worth eighty percent of JK Groupâs shares.
Suddenly, something fell to the floor from the envelope.
Dolores looked down and saw an exquisite pendant hollowed out on the floor. She picked it up and discovered it was a locket. She opened the locket and saw a picture in it. It was a picture of two people. The photo was small, but Dolores could clearly see the face of the person in the photo. The woman in the photo had long, straight dark hair. She had a beautiful face and looked a little like Dolores.
But she looked even more like the man in the photo.
The man in the photo was nice and handsome. He looked like a pretty boy, but he had masculine features. If Dolores didnât notice his dark, mysterious eyes, she would think he was just a handsome boy.
Dolores thought, âThis is the man Jolene likes.â
Dolores was excited, but she was able to calm down quickly. It was probably because she had never met Jolene and the man in the picture.

Dolores put everything back in the envelope and put it back in the safe deposit box. Then she opened the unsigned letter. Unfolding the letter, she saw neat handwriting spread across the paper.
âDear Dolores, I wasnât sure if you would see this letter. I secretly hope you wonât, but at the same time, I hope you will. At least you would know who I am and who your father is. The reason I didnât want you to read this was because I wanted you to live in a functional family like a normal person. How I would love to see you grow up. I wonder if you look like him or me. In short, I wish you to grow up safe and sound.â
âWhat you have seen in the envelope is what we have left for you. If you are in trouble, go find Oscar. He will help you and protect you.â
âI think you must be going through something if you are reading this letter.
Jessica wouldnât talk to you about the letter if you were happy with your life.â
âNo matter what youâve heard about your father, please donât believe any of it. He is a good man.â
âI, Jolene, am your mother, and Stanley is your father. Not many people knew about him, but you should know.â
âI must apologize for giving birth to you, but not being able to raise you. But we love you very much.â
âI have always believed that you are a gift from heaven. I could not control my happiness when you were born. You are the offspring of Stanley and me. You are also an imprint of our existence.â
âMay you be surrounded by bliss, happiness, warmth and good luck forever. From, Jolene.â
A tear drop fell on the letter. Dolores felt no pain, no grudge or hatred. The tears flowed for no reason.
As if Dolores could not control herself.
âMrs. Flores, are you there?â the manager called to Dolores because she had been there too long.
Dolores quickly wiped her tears and replied, âYes. Iâll be out soon.â
Dolores put everything back in the envelope and closed the safe deposit box. Then she left the room with another envelope. She looked calm. She said to the bodyguard, âLetâs go.â
The manager watched her leave, âContact me if you need any further assistance.â
Dolores turned around and looked at the manager, âI donât want people to know I was here.â
The manager smiled, âSure. Our job is to protect the privacy of our clients.â Dolores nodded. The bodyguard opened the car door for her and she got in.
Dolores rested her chin on her hand and looked out, âDo you know what to answer when people ask about my whereabouts today?â
The bodyguard took a quick glance at Dolores as he drove. He knew what Dolores was referring to, but he wasnât sure what she would want him to answer.
âMaybe you can suggest an excuse?â
âJust tell them I went to the boutique,â Dolores looked out the window. It had rained heavily yesterday and today was a sunny day. However, the sadness in Doloresâ heart never disappeared.
Dolores looked at what was in her hand. She hesitated for a moment and then asked the bodyguard to go to the Harris mansion.
She needed to ask about Jolene and Victoria for herself.
It was important to her.
The bodyguard fretted, âShould we tell Mr. Nelson?â
Dolores raised her eyebrows and looked angry, âWhy, you think what I said wasnât important?â
The bodyguard hastened to explain, âNo, Iâm worried that there is danger and I wouldnât know how to explain it to Mr. Nelson.â
âDonât worry. He wonât do anything to me,â Dolores replied calmly, but in reality she was nervous and uneasy.
She had already caused him a lot of trouble by being Joleneâs daughter. She wouldnât know how to confront Matthew if Jolene was the cause of Victoriaâs death.
Soon, the car pulled up to the guard house where the Harris mansion was located. Normally, the security guard there didnât allow just anyone in. Dolores called Sean.
Sean was not at home. He was drinking with Tommy. He couldnât face what Jeffrey did, so he left the house like he usually did.
Sean was surprised to get the call from Dolores, âDolores.â
âIâm outside the Harris mansion, can you come pick me up?â
Sean pulled himself together, âWhy are you there, are you with my brother?â
âNo, Iâm alone. Come out, please. The security guard wonât let me in.â
âIâm not home,â Sean put down the glass and walked out. Tommy chased after him, âWhere are you going, I thought you said you wanted to keep taking jobs? Have you changed your mind again?â
Sean was almost out of fashion.
Did he want to be popular again or not?
Sean was impatient. He turned around and looked at Sean, âNow I have to take care of something.â
Sean was worried about Dolores going to the Harris mansion alone. He was afraid Jeffrey would make things difficult for Dolores.
Sean had to go home.
âI will do everything I have promised you. Please let me settle this first,â Sean tried to contain his impatience.
Tommy stood still and did not chase after Sean. He knew Seanâs temper too well. He sighed and went back into the room to drink alone.
Dolores looked down, âCan you explain it to the security guard? Iâll pass him my phone.â
Sean got into the car, âSure.â
Dolores handed her phone to the security guard. They let her in after learning that she wanted to head to the Harris mansion.
When Dolores arrived at the Harris mansion, she put the envelope in her purse, then opened the car door and got out of the car, âWait for me here.â
Doloresâ bodyguard was concerned, âButâ¦â
Dolores stressed, âDonât worry. Iâll be fine.â
The bodyguard had no choice but to stand still. Dolores walked alone to the entrance of the Harris mansion and pressed the doorbell.
The door opened after a while. Marina was a little stunned to see Dolores standing in the doorway. Then she stepped back and smiled, âCome in quickly.â
