The doctor listened to him this time. He turned around and looked at Armand after dropping the medicine in his hand on the counter and passing it to another patient. He took the medicine in Armandâs hand and said, âItâs antiemetic.â Antiemetic?
Armand frowned and still wanted to ask what kind of illness it was that required antiemetic medication.
However, the doctor who gave him the medication had already gone in to take the medicine for other patients. Armand took the medicine and approached Theresa. He had some conjecture in his heart. After all, he was an adult. He had seen it before, even if he had never experienced it.
He approached step by step. He looked at Theresa, who was sitting in a chair in a row, and his gaze roamed over her abdomen. He asked very seriously, âAre you pregnant?â
Theresaâs heart fluttered for a moment. However, the next second she became serious: âWhat are you talking about?â.
Armand handed her the medication in front of Theresa serenely, âThis is the anti-emetic medication. You have a severe pregnancy reaction, donât you?â.
Theresa pretended to be calm and looked at Armand calmly, âArmand, do you still think Iâm willing to deliver your baby? Even if I have your baby, I wonât want it.â She snatched the medicine from Armandâs hand, âI threw up a lot because I ate something cold and my stomach hurt. So I went to the hospital to get some medicine. Have you ever seen a pregnant woman take antiemetic medicine?â.
Armand wasnât sure about that. He knew that a pregnant woman couldnât just take medicine.
âButâ¦â
âBut what?â Theresa interrupted him, not giving him a chance, âArmand, weâre separated now. I still have a wonderful life ahead of me. Even if Iâm pregnant, do you think Iâll still want the baby?â
Armand was speechless. He clenched his fists, âYou hate me that much?â
âYes. I hate you.â Theresa turned and walked away as she finished saying.
As Armand wanted to follow her, his phone, which was in his pocket, suddenly rang. He pulled out his cell phone. It was Matthew who had called.
Normally, Matthew rarely contacted him. He pressed the answer button, âGo to LJ Garden.â
Matthew hung up the phone when he finished speaking.
Armand stared at the phone for a few moments and then at Theresa, who was walking away, before finally sighing. It wasnât a matter of a few sentences if he wanted to go back to chasing Theresa. He pocketed the phone and walked out of the hospital. He didnât go to follow Theresa, but instead headed to LJ Garden.
As he entered, a waiter walked toward him and asked, âAre you Mr. Bernie?â
Armand nodded, âIâm here to pick up Matthew.â
âMr. Nelson is in the second private room. Please follow me.â The waiter led Armand into the second private room.
There was a large round table in the spacious private room. There were only Boyce and Matthew there.
Armand pulled up a chair and sat down. He asked as he smiled, âWhat day is it today?â
Normally, he was the one who called them together to meet. Matthew rarely called them to have lunch together because he was always traveling. Boyceâs workload was also very heavy. He was the only one who seemed to have more time on his hands.
Boyce twisted his lips, âDonât laugh. Then youâll cry.â
Armand scoffed at himself as he rebutted Boyce, âWhat could be more depressing than me right now?â
Theresa was the cause of his depression at the moment.
Mrs. Leslieâs health was gradually improving. Only Theresaâs attitude was static.
She had run out of options.
Theresa was impervious now.
She really had no way around it.
âBoyce, join me for a couple of drinks. Iâm in a bad mood.â Armand called out to the bartender. Boyce grabbed him and asked the waiter to come out, âWeâre not ordering anything now. You go out first. Weâll call you back when weâre ready to order.â
Armand glared at Boyce, âArenât we going to eat at a restaurant? Are we going to see a movie?â
Boyce said solemnly, âYes, weâre going to see a movie.â
Armand smiled, âYouâre kiddingâ¦â
Before he could finish the sentence, he noticed the screen on the wall suddenly light up. He looked at the screen in surprise, âAre we really going to watch a movie?â.
But she soon realized that they were not watching a movie because the screen showed another private room.
There sat a man, wearing a flowered shirt, in the private room. Armand looked at him closely and found that the man in the private room looked familiar. âHeâs a classmate of Phoebeâs at the university, right?â.
Armand and Phoebe were friends from the same college, but they were not in the same class. But this man, who was a wealthy second generation, was in the same class as Phoebe.
Armand remembered many things from the past when he saw him, âBoyce, do you still remember? Heâ¦â
Armand pointed to the person on the screen, âHe drove a Maserati to college. He was awesome. Hasnât he gone broke yet?â
Boyce stared at him without saying anything.
Armand quickly realized something wasnât right. He looked at Boyce and then at Matthew, âWhat do you want to do? You asked me to come to the restaurant and you wonât let me eat. Why would you want me to look at a former college roommate?â
Boyce was afraid he wouldnât be able to take it when he learned the truth. He said tactfully, âHave you ever thought about what Phoebe was doing all these years?â
Armand also had a sharp mind. He got the point quickly, âSomething to do with this rich second generation?â
Boyce said nothing, as if he had consented to this.
Armand stood up abruptly, âIâll go ask him.â
Boyce grabbed him, âWhen did you get so hot-headed?â
Armand looked at Boyce, âIâll go and ask him, whatâs wrong?â
âWait.â Boyce blurted out, âYouâll get the answer soon enough.â
Armand realized what was happening now. He looked at Matthew and then at Boyce, âHave you checked up on Phoebe?â
Boyce felt disgust at hearing the word âPhoebeâ.
Boyce looked at Armand with narrowed eyes and finally fell silent.
At that moment, something happened in the room and was visualized on the screen. The door, which had previously been closed, was pushed open. Phoebe had lost her innocent appearance, in which she was when she was in front of Armand. She definitely dressed carefully when meeting her old flame.
She wore a black sling dress with mid-calf exposed. A fox fur shawl draped obliquely over her shoulder. She also wore a pair of red heels. She looked lovely with her delicate makeup.
Cody took the initiative to ask her out. She thought Cody remembered all their good times. If Cody was willing to divorce to marry her, she would accept.
After all, it was too exhausting to go back to Armand.
Armandâs eyes widened. It was the first time he had seen Phoebe like this. Phoebe always appeared to others as innocent, bright and young.
âWhy do you think of me?â Phoebe twisted her waist and gracefully walked over. She sat on Codyâs legs as if it were second nature and a long habit.
Cody looked at the camera in the right corner and held Phoebeâs waist: âI miss you. So I looked you up. Why, donât you miss me after weâve been apart for so long?â.
Mr. Day, who was Codyâs father, wanted to collaborate with Matthew on a project.
Matthew did not promise him. This time, Matthew agreed to collaborate with Mr. Day.
However, he made one condition.
Only then did Cody dutifully show up in the private room.
Phoebe pulled Cody aside: âWhatâs the use of missing you? Youâve got a wife, what about me?â
Cody approached her, âI donât feel anything for her.â
âThen can you marry me?â Phoebe looked at him eagerly. She was looking forward to having a family when she was his age.
âPhoebe, you know that. My wifeâs family is wonderfulâ¦â
âBut Iâd been with you for about ten years. I gave up everything to be with you in that time. How many babies did I abort for you during those years? Your wife arranged for me to be beaten and that made it so I could never get pregnant again in my entire life.â Phoebe was especially agitated as she talked about the painful experiences. She grabbed the collar of Codyâs shirt, âHow are you going to make up for my youth over the years?â
Cody looked at her silently, âThatâs what we were both willing to do. Didnât you leave the poor guy and be with me just because of my wealth back then?â. Phoebe was silent.
Indeed, she was interested in his wealth at the time. She thought that with her beauty and wiles she would become the wife of a rich family. But marrying into a rich and powerful family was too difficult.
Cody walked up to her and hugged her, âNow I can keep in touch with you, are you willing to come back?â
