Samuel checked the cash and handed it to his sister as he lifted his head to glance at Matthew. He blinked and his eyelashes fluttered, âHow is it possible that you donât even know when your own wifeâs birthday is?â Matthew was speechless.
He was too angry to speak, in fact, he was not a good husband. Their marriage had lasted six years and tomorrow would be seven. Their children had been six years old, but they had yet to spend a night together.
Was he not a disqualified husband?
He did not satisfy his wife. It was all his fault.
Presently, Samuel had accepted him. But he would never forget that he had neglected himself. If he wanted his mom back, he would have to go the extra mile.
âSee for yourself.â Samuel was obviously reluctant to say it. He put his hands folded across his chest, âLet me give you a hint, thereâs not much time left.â Matthew raised an eyebrow, did he just say there wasnât much time left?
There were only a few days left?
Matthew crouched down and looked horizontally at his son, âDo you think I could tell just by asking a question?â
Samuel was especially quick to respond by covering his sisterâs mouth with his hand.
He was worried that he would ask his sister, Simona was a wax nose, and besides, she was extremely close to Matthew. If she was asked, she would reveal it to Matthew.
âYou donât coerce Simona?â Samuel frowned at Matthew.
Simona had no idea what had just happened.
For what reason did Samuel abruptly cover her mouth?
âHmmâ¦â
âWhat are you all doing?â Dolores came down from higher up and saw Samuel covering Simonaâs mouth, so she asked.
Matthew looked at his son and smiled in amusement, âJust now Simona said your birthday is on the second day of the Lunar New Year, then, at that time, Samuel said she wasnât right and covered her mouth.â
âItâs onâ¦â
âMom!â
Samuel interrupted her noisily. He was worried that she would say it and scowled at Matthew savagely, âYou cheated!â
âI did?â Matthew held out his hands, âWe all get what we want by our own abilities, donât we?â
This time it was Samuel who was speechless.
Dolores was puzzled, she touched her sonâs shoulder and advised him to let go of her daughter, âIf you keep covering for her she will feel uncomfortable.â
âMom, you must not reveal to her when your birthday is, let her examine herself. If he couldnât figure it out, it means he is not sincere.â Samuel said to Dolores.
Dolores blinked her eyes as if she had figured out what was going on.
She trusted Dolores, but she didnât know about her sister, so she pulled her towards the room, âLetâs go back to our room.â
âWhat about my money?â Simona glanced at her brother. With so much money, she could ask her mother to buy him a lot of things.
She couldnât just leave him there, what if he wasnât there?
âMom. Pick him up for usâ Samuel insisted on not allowing his sister to have contact with Matthew, this man was too cunning. Just now, he almost tricked Dolores into telling him.
Dolores nodded.
When the two children entered the room, Dolores looked at Matthew and asked, âWhy are you fighting with the boys?â
Matthew sat down next to her and covered her hand that held the cash. He took the cash in his hand and helped her pick it up, âIt was your son who provoked me first.â
Indeed, he was the victim.
It was clearly Samuel who messed with him, wasnât it?
Dolores looked up speechless.
Matthew slipped the money into the red envelope and put it on the table, âYouâre going with me to a meeting this afternoon.â
âWhat kind of meeting?â asked Dolores, almost with speculation in her heart. She knew that wasnât for work for sure and that it must be the organizationâs meeting.
Without letting Matthew finish saying, Dolores declined, âIâd rather not go.â
She knew that Matthewâs intention to take her to the annual meeting was undoubtedly to introduce her as his wife to the organizationâs workers.
Currently her relationship with Matthew was not stable; she would not like to be shocked by the rest of the world.
She understood his intention.
She threw herself into his arms, âWe didnât have a wedding. Our wedding ceremony was low key, only a few people knew about it. Showing up unexpectedly at the organizationâs annual meeting, while introducing me as your wife, what will others think of this? We got married unexpectedly? If they find out about our two children, what will they think? Will they say we got married because I got pregnant? Or that I used the children to force you to marry me or something? People might have arguments about it because of your identity, I just need to spend my days in harmony and tranquility with my children. I know you care a lot about me and want them to know about my presence, but it would be better to leave it at that.â
She looked up at him, âI understand your intention, but Iâm not ready right now.â
Matthew pursed his lips, he simply wanted to reveal his existence to others. However, he didnât think about the negative impacts if he did. No doubt, because of his identity, if he suddenly said he was married, people might gossip about it.
âWhat did the guy tell you?â
Actually, Dolores wanted to know what Jeffery Harris had told Matthew and what action he had taken.
What Matthew was thinking, she had to know.
He had not investigated the incident with Victoria before; he had not intentionally tried to find out.
This time, she learned from Jefferyâs mouth that the watered gauze was from the Forbis Family.
Victoria had the option of marrying Matthewâs father in exchange for the skill that had been passed down in the family for years.
However, presently, this specialty, once again, had appeared.
Jeffery realized that someone had taken this specialty, but he didnât realize it was Dolores.
When he found out, he was also dumbfounded.
He lowered his head to kiss the side of her forehead. He didnât pull away, but stood there, and asked, âYou must know the origin of the watered gauze, right?â Even though he was asking, he sounded affirmative about it.
Dolores was a little nervous, she lowered her voice as she tried to make her voice sound natural, âWhen Kevin Forbis showed me he told me that, itâs actually the family business of the Forbis Family.â
His kiss went to the corner of her eyes, âAre you still choosing not to tell the truth?â
Doloresâ body stiffened, âI promised I wouldnât tell others.â
âHe wants you to mess with me?â Doloresâ voice became hoarse.
Jeffery said it at that moment, âShe guaranteed me but now sheâs going back on her word, sheâs the person who broke her guarantee and passed my limit. If I didnât know, nothing would have happened, but if I know, I wonât let her go.â
At the time, Matthew did not stick up for her, as if to incite Jeffery to pursue this matter.
In the end, however, he took the blame so that he could protect Dolores and not have Jeffery find him dubious.
At the time he speculated that this was a plot by Victoria to associate Dolores with this affair on purpose, so that neither he nor Jeffery could lay a hand on her by using Dolores.
âWith me around, no one will be able to hurt you.â Including Jeffery.
Dolores realized that, from now on, Matthew would be in a dilemma.
She didnât need him to be in a dilemma, nor did she need him to abandon what he had told Victoria.
Victoria had sacrificed so much for Matthew. How could she let the art that had been passed down for years be lost like this?
