.
Victoriaâs name came up on the phone.
He glanced behind her instinctively and saw Matthew Nelson holding Simona Flores and stroking her hair. He didnât realize what he was doing, so she pulled back the curtain and picked up the phone.
âItâs me.â said Victoria.
Dolores Flores lowered her voice and said âhumâ to show she heard her.
Dolores knew Victoria wouldnât call her unless something happened.
âJeffery came home today, I didnât know where he got the news. But he knew the watered gauze had turned up in White City, so he came to question me.â Dolores frowned, where did he get the information?
She clenched her hands, had he discovered the watered gauze given to her by Victoria and used for Theresaâs wedding dress?
âI think Jeffery will look into it, so he might find you, Iâm worriedâ¦â Victoria didnât want Dolores involved in this.
She just wanted Dolores and Matthew to be safe. As for the watered gauze, although it was the Forbisâ possession, it was still less important than the happiness in her life.
Dolores peeked outside seeing that Matthew was still carrying Simona and was oblivious to her presence. She pulled back the curtain and said, âDonât worry, everything will be fine.â
âYou have to be very careful, nowâ¦â
âIâm on to something, I have to go now.â Dolores knew what Victoria meant, but she wasnât going to change her decision.
After she hung up the phone, she stared at the phone and lightly rubbed the phone screen with her fingers.
She thought about how Jeffery would be.
But from Victoriaâs description, she knew he was a tough guy, plus his background, so she had to be careful around him. Otherwise, Victoria might not hide the truth from him so eagerly.
The drive to B-town was uneventful, and they arrived in B-town in the afternoon.
They arrived downtown before dinner time, and everyone was tired after a long trip. Theresa and Armand took Mrs. Leslie to her own home. Boyce Shawn had to return to the company to settle Sampsonâs affairs before resting.
Dolores and the Mathews along with the children went straight back to the villa.
When they arrived home, Coral and Jessica had already prepared dinner well, they knew they would be going home today.
When they arrived, the bodyguards and the driver helped them with the luggage. Jessica carried Samuel as he entered the room. Jessica checked him carefully to see if Samuel was losing weight or getting taller.
âWhereâs Simona?â Coral asked Dolores. Matthew was carrying Simona back into the house with a somber look on his face. He didnât greet anyone, but walked straight into the room.
Jessica soon realized he was in a bad mood, so she turned to Dolores and asked, âWhatâs wrong? You donât look happy.â
Dolores didnât say anything to keep Jessica from worrying about him, so she told Jessica, âHeâs fine, heâs just tired.â
Jessica didnât buy it but she knew her daughter wouldnât want to talk about it anymore, so she didnât ask any more.
âCome to dinner, the dishes will get cold soon. Iâll help you unpack.â Coral approached still wearing the apron, and didnât stop smiling after Dolores came back.
âLeave them here, they are free to go.â Coral told the bodyguards to drop all the luggage in the hallway.
The wind was blowing into the house after the door had been open for quite a while. Dolores took Samuelâs coat off and asked him to wash his hands and get ready for dinner.
Samuel did as his mother told him.
Dolores took off her coat and hung it on the hanger, and went to wash her hands. She took some dishes from the kitchen and put them on the tray. She set about sending some food to the bedroom.
âDolores.â Jessica was about to ask something.
Dolores looked at her and said, âYes, what is it?â.
âNothing, you can go!â Jessica gave her hand a squeeze and headed to the kitchen to get some soup for Samuel.
Dolores sensed that Jessica wanted to talk to her. She thought maybe it was time to have a conversation with her mother, since they had been gone for so long. She had to tell her what was going on lately. So she said to Jessica, âMom, Iâll come to your room later, I want to talk to you.â
âSure, I want to talk to you about something too.â Jessica said.
âYeah, what is it?â
Jessica thought about it and felt it wasnât a good time to talk about it since Samuel and Coral were here. She didnât want anyone else to overhear the conversation between them, so she said, âIâll talk to you later in my room.â
Dolores nodded and took the food back to the room. Simonaâs clothes were all over the bed and she was still sleeping. Matthew was sitting next to Simona and watching her.
Dolores signed quietly and walked into the room, put the food on the table and said, âEat something.â
She went to pick up Simonaâs clothes and put them on the hanger.
Matthew did not move. He had no appetite to eat at that moment, he couldnât eat anything while looking at Simonaâs face. Even though the fingerprints on Simonaâs face had faded, he still couldnât let go of that issue of Simona being slapped by others.
Dolores walked to her side and put her hand on her shoulder. She was glad to see that he cared so much about his daughter.
Because she could see how much he cared about his children.
âStop blaming yourself, it was an accident.â Dolores said.
Matthew took her hand and Dolores sat on his lap. They were facing each other, but saying nothing.
They looked quietly into each otherâs eyes and Dolores wanted to tell him things about Victoria.
But she knew it wasnât rational.
If she did, it would destroy him and waste Victoriaâs years of effort.
She asked lightly, âAre you still angry?â
Matthew nodded.
âItâs not your fault.â said Dolores.
Matthew looked down and said, âThe last six years were my lifelong regret.â
He missed the time when Dolores needed him the most, as well as the childrenâs childhood.
âWeâll be together in the future.â Dolores smiled. It didnât seem familiar at the time.
Matthew meant it, âWeâll have another baby?â
Because he wanted to witness the period of pregnancy and the childâs growth. He was anxious to catch up on the things he had missed.
Dolores didnât lie to him last time saying she couldnât have another baby. But instead of disappointing him, she told him, âOkay.â
Matthew wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his jaw on her shoulder, his unique scent wafted into her nostrils.
His voice was low and clear, and the mood was enchanting, âWill you sleep with me tonight?â
Dolores was speechless.
How was he so direct?
And she withdrew her hand that was on his shoulder, âNo! Not tonight.â
âWhy?â
âMy mother wanted to talk to me, I have to go to her room later.â
âI can wait.â
Just after Dolores finished her words, she told him he could wait. Matthew figured he wouldnât stay all night in Jessicaâs room. It could wait.
Dolores swallowed saliva, this manâ¦.
She was afraid Mathew would say something else, so she added, âEat something first before the food gets cold. Iâm going to check on Samuel and Iâm hungry too.â She hadnât eaten all day, she was really feeling quite hungry.
Matthew took her hand and smiled slightly, âI can feed you tonight.â
Dolores blushed instantly and pulled her hand away from him and said, âDonât be naughty.â
