Dolores broke into a cold sweat the moment she was captured.
âWho are you?â her voice trembled with nervousness, feeling worried.
Sampson turned around and pulled down his mask.
Doloresâ face paled instantly at the sight of that face.
It was him, Sampson Herbert.
She feared that man who had imprisoned and wounded her.
She rebuked him in a cold voice, âLet go of me!â
Sampson grabbed her hand and wouldnât let go, gritting his teeth: âI wonât!â
It had taken him so long to get a chance like this, how could he let go so easily?
Lots of people were coming and going this way. Someone might stop to take a look at the two who were stinging each other.
Dolores didnât want to be taken away again and let out a loud cry, âI donât know you. Please let me go immediately or I will call the police.â Instantly, many looked at them sideways.
Sampson panicked for a moment, but then calmed down and pulled Dolores into his arms, âItâs just a fight. Why are they so angry?â
He explained to those looking over, âSorry for the trouble. Sheâs my girlfriend and sheâs just being annoyed with me.â
After a few sighs, some who thought they were doing a good deed, came forward to persuade Dolores, âYoung lady, donât be so moody. There are a lot of people here, and your boyfriend will be very humiliated to argue with you like this.â
Dolores desperately shook her head, âIâm not his girlfriend. I donât know himâ¦â
âIâm sorry, Lola. I was wrong. I wonât make you angry again. Stop making a scene and come home with me.â
Sampson grabbed her around the waist and dragged her outside.
No one came over to help after learning that it was a loversâ quarrel.
Instead, many people kept helping Sampson, thinking Dolores was so immature for making a scene and having a big fight with her boyfriend right outside, not caring about her boyfriendâs well being.
No one would help her. Dolores clenched her hands and pulled back. Then, just as Sampson tried to grab her, she grabbed his arm and bit it.
Sampson felt pain and loosened his grip. Dolores took the opportunity to break free of his grip. She was about to run away when someone grabbed her arm. She turned around and saw a stranger.
âDonât be so capricious. Look how your boyfriend is hurting from your bite.â
âIâm not his girlfriend!â she shouted in a harsh, low voice.
The man froze and let go of her hand, apparently shaken by Doloresâ indignation. âLolaâ¦â Sampson reached out and grabbed her hand.
âLet her go!â At that moment, the driver rushed toward that spot. Seeing this, Sampson let go of Dolores and quickly ran off.
The driver wanted to go after him, but Dolores shouted, âDonât chase him. There are a lot of people here, and you wonât be able to find him if he hides among them.â
The driver approached Dolores: âAre you all right?â.
Dolores shook her head, âCome on.â
âYou really werenât his girlfriend, were you?â The man who had just held Dolores for Sampson gaped. He had meant to help with good intentions, but it turned out he wasnât.
Dolores returned his stare coolly and said nothing.
It was Sampsonâs shamelessness in saying they were sweethearts that had caused the crowd to misunderstand him and speak for him.
If the driver hadnât arrived in time, she didnât even know if she could run away.
The driver followed her out of the mall. Only when Dolores got into the car did she relax, for she still had doubts about what had just happened.
Was Sampson following her in the dark? Would he jump out at every opportunity?
She knew nothing. There were many speculations and anxieties within her. She did not know when Sampson would come out again.
Sampsonâs existence was like a timeless bomb, not knowing when it would explode, threatening her all the time.
They were back at the hotel while she thought about business.
The driver opened the car door for her, âWe have arrived, Miss Flores.â
It was the driverâs voice that brought Dolores to her senses. She stepped out of the car and involuntarily looked back. Not knowing if it was a shadow in her heart, she always felt that Sampson was hiding somewhere, spying on her.
âThis is our place. He wouldnât dare show up easily.â Said the driver.
Dolores nodded and entered the hotel with her things.
She still unconsciously glanced left and right as she made her way through the lobby to the upper floors. Even knowing that Matthew had organized all the people here, she still felt uneasy.
She couldnât help it.
The elevator stopped with a clink and she stepped out.
âSimona, donât be so childish, okay?â Samuel gritted his teeth as he spoke to his sister.
âWhere have you gotten to? I just like playing âPlants vs. Zombies.â Whatâs wrong with that?â Simona didnât feel childish, and instead, played with enthusiasm.
âSunshine, sunshine. Iâve collected so many suns, and I can plant a pea shooterâ¦â The little girl said to herself.
She didnât even worry about her brother. Where was she being childish?
She was having so much fun.
Samuel rubbed his hair and couldnât stand it any longer. However, Simonaâs voice was still so loud, annoying him.
âSamuel.â Dolores stood in the doorway and called out to him.
Simona was concentrating on the game at the moment and didnât notice that Dolores had returned.
âMom.â Samuel approached with furrowed brows.
Dolores reached out and stroked his eyebrows, âYouâre a good boy. Youâve helped Mommy take care of your sister very well. So I want to give you a present.â
Samuelâs eyes lit up, âWhat kind of present?â Of course he was happy to have a gift.
Dolores handed him the bag.
Samuel immediately took it and pulled out the box inside, âA rubikâs cube?â
Dolores nodded and teased him, âI heard from the boss that itâs hard. I donât know if you can solve it.â
Samuel looked at her and continued to take it apart. He wanted to see if it was a challenge. He liked to challenge something difficult.
After opening it and looking at the thing, Samuel stared at it. Then he looked at Dolores, âMommy, where did you buy this?â
âI went out and bought it, whatâs wrong?â Dolores was confused by her sonâs attitude.
âI like it.â Samuel was already eager to try it, âThank you, Mommy.â
Dolores smiled and patted her sonâs head, âItâs good that you like it.â
âIâm going to play it then.â
âOkay.â
Samuel ran into the living room and sat down on the couch, beginning to study the Rubikâs cube in his hand.
Dolores stood up, seeing that the two boys were quiet. Then she turned around and walked into the other room.
Matthew was still sitting on the couch, laptop in his lap, working on company business. He looked busy as he had been when Dolores left.
Doloresâ eyes were droopy as she walked lightly in with her things in her hand.
After putting her things down, she pulled a piece of paper and a pen from her purse, then carefully walked back out.
She didnât want to disturb him.
Matthew was speechless.
He had been waiting for her for a long time. Thatâs why he was so glad when he heard that Dolores was coming back. When he went to the door, he discovered that she had bought Samuel a present.
To prevent Dolores from finding out, he gently went back to his room and sat down on the couch, pretending that he was still angry and busy.
He was looking at the computer, but still wondering where she had gone in his mind. She had bought a gift for Samuel, and was there one for him?
He waited expectantly for Dolores to come in.
However, she came in, but left again without a word.
He put down the laptop and paced back and forth across the room. Why couldnât this woman come in and cheer him up?
Didnât she realize he was unhappy?
Didnât she care about him?
And why had she gone out again?
Matthew had never been so anxious. Finally, he couldnât stand it.
He could come to her, even if she wouldnât come to him.
He forgave his wife. After convincing himself, Matthew left the room and saw Dolores in the hallway.
