It was Charles who called, and she was inexplicably a little nervous. For some reason, when she thought of Charles, she thought of Lacey.

“You answer the phone then. I’ll be back first.” Theresa thought Dolores wasn’t answering the phone because she was nearby.

Dolores hesitated because she was afraid Charles would tell her about Lacey.

She didn’t want to get into that again.

However, Charles was very persistent. It seemed that Charles would not hang up until she answered the phone. Her phone kept ringing.

Finally, she took a deep breath and pressed the answer button. Soon Charles’s voice came to her, “Have you left yet?”

Dolores said, “I’ll leave tomorrow for something.”

“Then let’s meet today,” Charles said.

Dolores stood on the side of the road. She looked down at her shoes, “I have something to do. I’m afraid…”

“You’re leaving tomorrow. Aren’t you going to say goodbye to me?” Dolores was silent.

“I’ll only be a few minutes,” Charles added.

After all, they had known each other for a long time. Since Charles said it, she couldn’t refuse him again and could only agree, “Come then.”

“I’ll have someone pick you up. I can’t come to you now.”

“Forget it then, tell me where you are. I’ll take a cab there on my own.” It would be a hassle and a waste of time to have someone pick her up.

“Wait for me at the villa. I’ll be back soon.”

Dolores said after a moment’s silence, “Okay.”

She headed to the side of the road to catch a cab. After waiting for about ten minutes, she finally got a cab. When she got in, she gave her address.

Half an hour later, the driver stopped at the villa and Dolores paid the fare and got out.

Charles gave Amelia advance notice. As soon as Dolores got out of the car, Amelia walked toward her. She smiled and said, “Hello, Miss Flores.”

Dolores was familiar with this girl after a few days together. She turned to her, “It’s very cold outside, why don’t you stay inside?”.

“The Young Master told me to wait for you here. He said you would come.” Amelia smiled and said, “Come in first.”

Dolores was no stranger to this place. After all, she had lived here for a few days.

Entering the living room, Dolores took off her coat and hung it on the hanger. The house was warm, with air conditioning and underfloor heating. She would be warm in her coat.

Amelia went to make coffee, “I didn’t think I’d see you again.”

She walked over with the steaming coffee and set it on the table, “The truth is, Young Master is quite nice.”

Of the two women around Charles, she preferred Dolores. She didn’t know why, but Dolores struck her as kind and easy to get along with.

Lacey had a somber look about her and she didn’t like it.

Dolores didn’t sit down, but walked over to the fish tank set in the window, pretending not to hear Amelia’s words, “These fish are still here.”

She remembered that, after being rescued, she had difficulty moving because of her injured feet. Charles got her these fish to kill time for fear that she would get bored.

These fish were really rare, brightly colored and peculiar looking. He reached into the water and shook the fish’s tail, which spooked and swam away quickly, making Dolores laugh.

Amelia stood aside, also looking at the fish in the water. “The Young Master feeds these fish himself every day.”

Dolores looked up, would Charles be so idle as to feed these fish every day? Amelia smiled, “Of course, when he’s here. Usually, I take care of these fish. Most of the time, I change their water and feed them, but as long as he’s here, he’s the one who feeds them.”

As the water moved, the fish swam happily. Dolores contemplated them.

“I’ve heard that fish only have a seven-second memory. It would be nice if people could selectively forget things, too.” Suddenly, a deep male voice came from behind her. Dolores turned to see Charles walking toward her in his wheelchair.

“Have you been here long?” asked Charles.

Dolores shook her head, “No, I just got here.”

Charles rolled his wheelchair over to the fish tank and waved his hand at Amelia, “Watch the door and don’t let anyone in.”

Amelia looked at Dolores and then at Charles, but finally said nothing and walked out with her head down. She left the house and closed the door.

The great hall was suddenly silent.

Dolores looked at the closed door and raised an eyebrow, “Do you have any secrets to share?”

She dismissed Amelia and let no one in.

Charles was blunt, “Yes, I do have something to tell you. But, it’s not something secret.

“What is it?”

“Sit down then.” Charles rolled his wheelchair over to the couch.

Dolores followed him to the couch. The coffee Amelia had prepared was still steaming and she picked it up and took a sip. As she set the cup down, she heard Charles say, “He’s fine, but he’s not talking and refuses to see me.”

Dolores’ hand paused for a moment. She said nothing. She knew who Charles was referring to. At this point, she preferred to be a listener.

“I know she’s too embarrassed to see me,” Charles said to himself. Now he really wanted to talk to someone. Otherwise she would be depressed: “The doctor said she has poor mental health. I’m going to send her to a nursing home.”

He hoped Lacey could live like a normal person in the future.

“I’ll let my people gather evidence of the Ward Family’s abuse of her. I think it won’t be long before they bring the bad guys to justice.”

At this point, Charles was calm. After one night, he had calmed down.

“I think you can do it.” With Charles’ status and position here, it shouldn’t be difficult for him to punish two bad guys.

Charles looked at Dolores, “You trust me that much?”

Dolores smiled, “It’s not that I trust you, but that you have that ability.”

Charles sketched a bitter smile, “Are you really going to draw a line with me?”.

Dolores fiddled with her coffee cup on the table, “If I was going to draw a clear line with you, I wouldn’t be here today.”

How was she going to draw a line with him if she didn’t hold a grudge?

Charles smiled, “Yes.”

Dolores looked up, “Is that what you wanted to talk to me about?”.

Charles looked at Dolores for a few seconds, somewhat torn, but asked, “You’ve met Victoria, haven’t you?”.

Dolores was surprised that Charles changed the subject so quickly. It was clear they were talking about Lacey. Why had he suddenly brought up the subject of Victoria?

Besides, he knew Victoria.

But the idea that Nathan was her foster father made it no surprise to her that he knew something.

“She’s in City B. How could he have known her?” Dolores looked at the coffee in her cup. She had promised Victoria.

She wouldn’t even tell Matthew, and naturally, she wouldn’t tell Charles.

Charles looked at her, “You won’t tell me?”

Dolores looked at him, “What if I have seen her, what if I haven’t?”

“I want to know what she told you,” Charles stated his purpose directly.

Before Dolores could respond, he revealed what he knew, “The person who taught you how to make watered gauze was Victoria’s brother Kevin. Victoria was my foster father’s first love. He never married because of her. My foster father lost his finger when he was alive. To be honest, I’m now researching the person who cut off his finger.”

Dolores’s hands suddenly clenched, had Nathan’s finger been cut off?

Her brain worked fast. At the time, Victoria only said that Jeffery used Nathan to threaten her into making that phone call to Jayden, but she didn’t mention what cruel methods Jeffery used to threaten her.

So did Jeffery cut off Nathan’s finger to threaten Victoria into making the call?

“He raised me and left me his fortune. I have to do something for him.” Charles stared at Dolores’s face. He knew Dolores must know what had happened then, and he knew who had cut off her foster father’s finger.

Dolores was in a difficult position. The Harris Family was not straightforward and had ties to the Nelson Family.

After she told him, if Charles went to the Harris home seeking revenge, would he bring up what had happened then?

By then, Matthew’s identity would be revealed.

No, he couldn’t risk it.

“I don’t know…”

Suddenly, the door to the room was pushed open and Amelia ran in panic, “Oh, no, there are people coming to make trouble at the door.”
