In the last half of the night, Dolores had slept soundly. She felt her face sting and stirred slightly. Half awake, she felt someone kissing her face and lips.
Suddenly she opened her eyes and saw clear, bright eyes looking at her.
âWhy arenât you sleeping?â she had just woken up, and her voice was hoarse.
Matthew smiled, âAwake?â
Dolores scratched her hair and woke up.
Her way of waking people up was somewhat peculiar.
Matthew handed her his coat, âCome on, Iâll show you something.â
Dolores looked at the two children beside her, and they were both sound asleep. Their faces were flushed and they were sleeping deeply and sweetly.
âWhat about them?â Dolores didnât want to leave her children.
âLetâs just go next door.â
Matthew had made the arrangements.
They even changed the room they were staying in, just in case Dolores had a psychological shadow on her mind from the doll thing.
He helped Dolores put on her coat, and Dolores could only get out of bed. Matthew put his arm around her shoulders and they left the room.
As he closed the bedroom door, he glanced at the two children in bed to confirm that they had no signs of waking before gently closing the door.
In the next room, Boyce did not sleep. He sat on the couch and drank tea. On the coffee table in front of him was a tea set with teapots and six blue and white china cups. The water in the teapots bubbled and boiled, and a white mist came out of them. The aroma of tea permeated the room.
âDolores is here,â Boyce set the teacup on the coffee table. He stood up and waved with a smile.
Dolores smiled, âStill awake?â
âHow am I going to fall asleep?â Boyceâs eyes darkened, âSomeone dares to do something this bad right under my nose. I canât sleep well until I catch that person.â
Dolores instantly knew the intention of calling her to come over. Did they have any clue?
If not, they wouldnât have called her.
âYou figured it out so quickly?â Dolores was surprised.
âIâm not sure yet, but Iâll soon find out,â the people Boyce sent to Laceyâs hometown had not yet returned.
Matthew put his arm around her and sat down. He picked up the remote control from the nightstand and turned on the screen hanging on the wall.
The screen showed a video soon, âWho is Mr. White?â.
There was a man in a leather jacket staring coldly at Lacey on the screen.
Boyce explained to the side to avoid her confusion, âMatthew suspects the woman. He has revealed his suspicion to Charles and asked him to look into her. Itâs just a cover. Matthew used the relationship between Charles and Lacey to probe Laceyâs home address. Charles went straight to Lacey after he left the hotel.â
Boyce sent his man to follow Charles upstairs, and canvassed Laceyâs home address.
When Charles came out, the man who followed Charles took out a small amount of money and knocked on Laceyâs door. He gave her the money and said it was Charles who gave it to her. The man in the leather jacket appeared at that moment and took the money from Lacey. The man who followed Charles took the opportunity to install a monitor on the TV when he handed over the money.
That was what caused the video showing the man in the leather jacket to question Lacey about who Mr. White was.
Dolores raised her eyes and glared at Boyce, âHow do you know whatâs in Matthewâs mind?â
She recalled that Matthew held Samuel and left after he finished speaking at that point.
Matthew had no interaction with Boyce at that time.
He only called for them to leave the room after they had eaten.
âI received a text message from Matthew after he left,â Boyce knew Matthewâs intent at that time.
Matthew left indicating that he had passed the matter to Charles and would not intervene in it. However, it was only a cover for Matthew.
Charles didnât even know he had been manipulated until now.
Dolores looked silently at Matthew, and thought his mind was deep.
She felt frightened by his deep mind. How could a manâs mind be devious?
Matthew had manipulated people, but they wouldnât know.
âIs it possible that I still have to count money for you when you sell me one day?â Dolores thought it was possible, and felt her IQ was low in front of Matthew.
Matthew hugged her tightly, âI wonât sell you.â
How could he sell her if he loved her so much?
âYou donât have to worry about who she is. Take the money and get out.â Lacey fumed with rage and trembled.
However, the man in the leather jacket was not unhappy with the money he had, and continued to tug at Lacey, âLacey, the money is only enough for me to spend for a little while, but you know how much I want.â
âI donât have any more money,â Lacey yelled back.
Slap A slap caught Lacey in the face. The man in the leather jacket grabbed the collar of Laceyâs clothes and pulled her to the floor. He sat on her body and squeezed her neck, âYou better behave, or Iâll go public with your outrage and make it so you canât even be a human being.â
âYour father made me do it,â Lacey growled. She didnât resist against him, and her hands clutched tightly to the floor. She knew he would be more unscrupulous if she fought back.
âHey, bitch!â The man in the leather jacket let go of her and pocketed the money. He looked at Lacey, who was getting up from the floor, and warned her, âYou better behave yourself and get more money this period. You closed the dress store all of a sudden and now even the income is gone. Iâm telling you, Lacey. I donât care whether youâre going to sell your body or steal. You have to pay me twenty thousand yuan every month. Iâll whip you to death if you miss a single yuan.â
The man in the leather jacket spoke harshly to Lacey and left the room. He closed the door to the room with a bang.
Lacey sat on the floor and wept.
Dolores was in agony as she looked at Lacey on the video. âWhat could the video suggest to you?â she wondered why Matthew would suspect Lacey.
âIt showed that Lacey is not as innocent as she looks. No one can keep a pure heart when she is threatened and deprived often in her life. Do you know that Lacey gave money to the person I sent to give her money, who posed as Charlesâ man?â
Dolores asked, puzzled, âWhy did she give money to him?â
âShe doesnât want Charles to know of the existence of the man in the leather jacket. Nor does she want him to know that she has a relationship with that man.â She had kept secrets from Charles.
âAre you going to ask me why I suspect her?â Matthew picked up a lock of her hair and played it through his fingers.
Dolores nodded sincerely.
Matthew replied, âI canât be sure of her motives, but she has an ability.â
âWhat kind of ability?â
Matthew ruled out the possibility that it was Sampson who did it. Sampson didnât dare appear in public, and he couldnât even enter or leave the hotel like the others. How could he check the surveillance setup at the hotel?
Lacey, however, could check the hotelâs surveillance layout. She would not be suspected, even if she often entered the hotel, since she had a good relationship with Charles.
Matthew had confirmed the thought by watching the surveillance video next to the hotel manager. Lacey often went to the hotel when they left White City.
Her purpose was clear.
Dolores found it unbelievable, and it was inconceivable that it was Lacey who would do it.
âWhy would she do it?â Dolores couldnât understand.
Boyce narrowed his eyes and hummed coolly, âMaybe she has a psychological distortion. Anyway, I think weâll soon be able to find out.â
