Jayden let the maid leave, and when she did, he walked over to Jolene and said, âYour brother found out about Victoria and assumed she was my mistress. He was very angry about it.â
âHe didnât hurt her, did he?â Jolene sat up startled.
She knew her brother was quick tempered and cared a lot about her, so no doubt he would be furious with Victoria and might hurt her.
âHe didnât do anything to her, but the truth of his existence canât be hidden.â
Jolene breathed a sigh of relief. It was great to hear that nothing had really happened. If Jeffery had done anything she would feel guilty in front of Victoria. Even though he had promised her at the time that she would become Jaydenâs wife for the money and bear the child, she knew she had no choice. After getting along with her for almost a year, he understood her a little and knew she was actually a good woman.
âWhat exactly do you want to do?â Jolene could tell Jayden was about to say something.
âLetâs take this opportunity and get a divorce.â
Jolene naturally wants a divorce, but she still had some concerns, âThis isnât fair to you.â
After all, if he cheats, he would be seen as the guilty party, and the family would certainly blame him then.
âThings end up like this, thereâs no going back. With the existence of this child, they couldnât do anything to me, even if they are angry with me,â he said.
Even the Harris Family was upset that he had made a mistake, but this child was his and Joleneâs, so even if the Harris Family was irritated, there wasnât much they could do about it.
After some thought, Jolene had no better idea to fix it and said, âOkay.
But Iâm really sorry that it might be a little unfair to you.â
âThatâs okay. Donât beat yourself up about it,â Jayden was really calm now. Actually, it was a good thing he could end this whole mess.
Divorce Jolene and marry Victoria. The child was theirs and they could take good care of the child together as he grew up.
âYou have a plan, then just carry it out.â
âItâs a blessing for him to have a mother by his side,â Jolene said as she let out a long sigh and looked at the crib.
A motherâs companionship, more than social status, was the most important thing to a child.
Jayden was ready to call home after dealing with Jolene. The door to the living room was forced open and Jeffery walked in.
He pretended nothing was wrong and asked Jayden, âYou didnât say anything in front of Jolene, did you?â
He didnât want Jolene to know that Jayden had another woman.
âWhat brings you here, brother?â
Joleneâs heart skipped a beat and she reached down to take the child in her arms, for she was worried that he might find out something and hurt the baby.
But, in Jefferyâs opinion, her action was a reflection of the love she felt for her son. Despite her discomfort, she wanted to be kind to her son.
âI have something to tell you, come out with me,â he told Jayden.
âSay it here if you have something to say.â Jolene suspected that Jeffery was pretending to be quiet and wondered if he would hurt Jayden by asking him to come out.
âWomen canât listen to menâs conversations.â
âWhat, even I canât talk to your spouse for a while?â asked Jeffery to his sister as he looked at her.
âNo, bro,â she said.
âI just have to talk to him, stay here.â Jeffery snuggled into his sisterâs shoulder.
But she was still uneasy about it.
âItâs okay, he probably has something serious to tell me. He just doesnât want you to listen to him and worry,â Jayden reassured her.
âHoweverâ¦â
âStop it.â Jeffery was getting impatient and interrupted Jolene.
âIâll be outside the room waiting for you.â Jeffery walked out of the room after saying that.
âDonât worry.â After saying a few words, Jayden followed him out. At that moment he wondered what Jeffery had to tell him.
Jeffery took the lead as the two advanced to the end of the hallway and made their way to the silent staircase. âDid you tell Jolene?â
Jayden answered no as he shook his head.
âThatâs wonderful. They still have to stay happily together for the childâs sake. â Jeffery was no longer as irritated as before, and was now calm.
âIâve looked into that woman.â
âSheâs not someone from B-Town, but from Podon. Sheâs just a woman from a small town who doesnât deserve your attention. Stay happily with my sister,â Jeffery leaned against the wall.
Jayden frowned and said in his icy voice. âHave you checked her out?â
âAn ordinary woman. Sheâs pretty and doesnât come from a poor family. But sheâs just facing hardship and you paid her to be your mistress. Nothing more than that.â
The investigators could not determine whether the person who provided the money to Victoria was a man or a woman. They were limited to saying that Victoria received some money and traveled to B-town.
Jeffery must have assumed that the money was provided to her by Jayden.
As he could see, their relationshipâ¦
He was not surprised to see a wealthy man having affairs with women. But this lady could not stay close to him for the sake of both families, or for the happiness of his sister.
Jayden narrowed his eyes and sensed something was wrong as Jeffery was too calm.
âWhat exactly did you do to him?â
âIâm not sure what youâre talking about, but please treat my sister kindlyâ¦â
Jayden quickly exited before Jeffery finished his sentence. When he pushed open the door to Victoriaâs living room, it was empty and bare.
âDid you do something to her?â he asked Jeffery, who had followed him.
Jeffery walked over and looked at the empty room. He stretched out his hands and muttered, âWhere did she go, how should I know?â
âYou didnât hide the person and then come back and say I kidnapped her, did you?â Jayden asked.
Jeffery would never admit that he had kidnapped Victoria.
âTell me, what did you do to her?â Jayden lost control and grabbed Jefferyâs collar.
âJayden, what proof do you have that I kidnapped her? Besides, who knows if it was you who hid her to protect her and claim that I had kidnapped her?â
âMaybe she ran away herself. Anyway, I didnât kidnap her. I donât have that kind of time,â Jeffery shot back.
Jayden glared at him and walked into the house. The only place to hide people in this small room was the bathroom, but there was no one inside. There was no sign of a fight in the house, there was no sign of a struggle in the bed, with all this, they could see Victoria had not been taken by force.
But where was she?
She had no friends or family in B-town.
âIs she really missing?â Jeffery leaned against the door and said with a mocking look.
Jayden ignored him.
Just then his phone rang. He pulled it out and Victoriaâs name appeared on the screen. Victoria had not yet given birth at that time, so they kept each otherâs phone number so they could contact each other.
âWhere are you?â she said as she quickly picked up the phone.
âIâm not here anymore. Stop looking for me.â
âWhat did you say?â Jaydenâs hand at his side curled into a fist.
âHow can I marry you if I donât love you?â
Jaydenâs heart sank as he held the phone âWould you please tell me where you are, Iâll come find you and weâll have a clear face-to-face conversation.â
âIâ¦I found out I still love my ex-boyfriend. He doesnât care, Iâ¦â
Jayden clenched his fist around the phone. He held the phone so tightly he wanted to smash it.
âI donât believe thatâ¦â
âWhatâs the point of not believing?â
Jayden was speechless, as if his spirit was out of his body. She had promised him.
Had she left?
Had she left with her ex-boyfriend?
What she had promised him was all a lie, wasnât it?
Jeffery looked at him and smiled weakly before leaving the room.
