In his embrace, Samuel could clearly feel Matthewâs chest shaking as well.
He reached out to hug Matthew. As much as he liked Mommy, Samuel could sense that he felt really uneasy and guilty right now.
âWeâll go get her.â Matthew made Samuel look him in the eye, âYouâre coming with us?â
âYes,â Samuel answered without hesitation.
âBut what about Simona? If Mom and I werenât here, sheâd make a fuss,â Samuel said worriedly.
âDad!â
Simona saw Matthew and trotted out of the house, hurrying over. She stretched out her chubby arms and hugged her legs, âDaddy.â She lifted her head and her pink lips pouted, âDaddy, can you let go of Samuel and hug me?â
As he spoke, he opened his eyes and blinked, âSamuel is a man now. He doesnât need a hug. Hug me.â
Samuel was speechless.
Matthew squatted down, holding the little girl in his arms. The girl was wearing a pink dress with a ponytail behind her head. Her hair was short on her forehead, but her forehead was wide, her large, watery eyes uncovered. The little girl wrapped her arms around Matthewâs neck tightly and rubbed his face with her own, âDaddy, youâve come home. Why isnât Mommy with you? I havenât seen her for several days. Weâve never been apart. I miss her so much.â
Matthew looked away, clasping his two small hands to his chest. He struggled to say calmly, âIâll take you to look for her.â

âYes.â
âWow, Iâm so happy!â Simona wriggled her excited little body in his arms. However, Samuel was not as delighted as she was, âItâs so good to be a boy.â
Simon heard him and turned to stare at him, âYou were born only a few minutes before me. Youâre not that much older than me. Even Grandma said you were the leftover.â
Samuel frowned and his whole face scrunched up, âGrandma said you were the leftover.â
Jessica came out of the house. She wore an apron and put her hands out in front, âGuys, come on in. Itâs time for dinner.â
âGrandma, Samuel is the leftover child, isnât he?â Simona asked quickly to prove that what she was saying was real.
In her opinion, whoever asked first would be right.
It was easy enough to read the childâs mind. She was simpler than her brother and didnât think much. Jessica teased her with a smile, âYouâre the leftover.â
Simona was not happy, pouting, âWhy isnât Samuel the leftover? Heâs soâ¦obnoxious.â Samuel snatched Dadâs hug away from her.
So, Simona decided that Samuel was obnoxious.
Jessie glanced at Matthew and said, âIt was because, at first, there was only one baby in your mommyâs belly. Later, another one was found â isnât the one found later the one left over?â.
Simona was not convinced: âThat must be Samuel. Thatâs the one left over.â
âBut Samuel was born firstâ¦â
âI donât care. Samuel is the leftover.â Simona acted cheeky. She played nice as she wrapped her arms around Matthewâs neck tightly, âDad, Samuelâs the leftover?â
Matthew pulled her up and rubbed her hair, âNeither of us are leftovers.â
âCome on. Letâs go to dinner.â Jessica tugged on Samuelâs hand.
âI want to take you both on a hike. Dolores misses them.â Taking advantage of the lively mood, Matthew told Jessica they were going out.
Jessica agreed, âOkay.â
She sensed something was wrong, but thought she had thought too much.
Seeing that, both children, especially Simona, liked Matthew so much, Jessica wished he could start a family with Dolores. Therefore, it was no bad thing for them to spend more time together and develop family affection.
âWhen will you be back?â asked Jessica.
Matthew had no idea when he might find her. He said, âI havenât decided yet. I want to take them out to have fun. I donât want to be interrupted, so we wonât be contacting anyone nationally.â
Jessica nodded, âI see. When are you leaving?â
âTonight.â
âThatâs too soon.â
âYes.â Matthew didnât explain, as he didnât want to waste time.
âYou go to dinner. Iâll pack the clothes for the kids.â Jessica took off her apron and headed for the childrenâs rooms.
Matthew took the children to wash their hands. Simona was clinging tightly to him. She wanted to stay in his arms, not wanting to get down. Matthew held her to wash and returned to the dining room, letting her sit on his lap.
Coral served the dishes and asked, âHasnât the mistress returned yet?â Her manner of addressing Dolores had changed again.
In her opinion, since Dolores gave birth to two children, she should now be Mistress of the Nelson Family.
Matthew gathered food for Simona. Without raising his head, he let out an âhmm.â
He didnât want to talk about Dolores at all. The more he talked about her, the easier it would be for others to find something wrong.
Coral always took care of him, so she knew him very well. She had realized that he was not willing to talk about this matter in that tone. Hence, she didnât keep asking sensibly.
âDad, eat this.â Simona picked up a piece of broccoli with her spoon and brought it to Matthewâs lips.
The little girl blinked, her eyes full of anticipation.
Matthew opened his mouth and ate the broccoli. Although he no longer had an appetite, he chewed it lightly.
âDo you like it?â Simona smiled contentedly, âMomâs broccoli is tastier!â.
Matthew had a solemn look on his face. The two children kept mentioning Dolores, so you could tell they loved Dolores deeply.
Samuel shot a glance at his sister. Pursing his lips, he lowered his eyes, stuffed a few mouthfuls of food into his mouth and put down his chopsticks. He had no appetite since he hadnât met Mom.
âIâm full. Iâm going to see if Grandma has finished packing.â After that, he got off the chair and headed for his room.
âSamuel, why did you just eat that small amount of food?â Simona looked at her brother. Although they always argued or fought with each other, they cared more about each other.
âIâm full, Simona.â Samuel smiled at her.
âSamuel, youâre not the leftover,â Simona suddenly told him seriously.
Samuel smiled.
After dinner, Boyce arrived with his men and their cars. Knowing that Matthew would be taking the two boys, he had prepared a caravan for them so that the boys could have a good rest on the wall. In addition, there were three all-terrain vehicles and seven men skilled in fighting who could be trusted.
When Boyce saw Samuel, he said, âMatthew, he looks a lot like you. Look at his eyes and his nose.â
âWhat about me, do I look like Dad?â asked Simona as she raised her head.
Boyce squatted down, watching the girl intently. She was quite pretty. Her eyes were bright. When she blinked, her eyes looked like bright stars. He reached out and pinched her cheek. Before his finger reached the girlâs face, her wrist was grabbed. She looked up and saw Matthewâs cold face.
Boyce was confused, âI just want to pinch her cheek. I know sheâs your daughter, how can you be so mean?â.
Wasnât it normal to touch their hair, pinch their cheek, kiss and hug them when they teased the children?
Besides, he didnât want to kiss or hug her.
Matthew shook her hand, âDonât touch her with your hand.â
Simona was a child. She was disgusted by anyone touching her face, especially a man.
She held her daughter in her arms and tugged on her sonâs hand, âCome on if everything is ready.â
After finishing her words, she walked away.
Boyce stood still, confused. He looked down at his hands. His hands were not dirty. He couldnât understand why Matthew was so mean.
He hurried to catch up to Matthew, âWait, Matthew. I need to talk to you.â He wasnât a nasty man, but why was Matthew so alert with him?
âI understand that you love your children. After all, you eventually have kids being older, but you canât be so meanâ¦â
Matthew looked back, âExcuse me, did you say I have children being old?â
He didnât say old.
Boyce clicked his tongue, âOh, youâre not old.â
Inwardly, he grumbled at Matthew: he was in his thirties, almost forty. Of course, he was older in Boyceâs opinion.
He approached and said, âIn the future, I will have a child. Letâs have the child marriage, shall we?â.
Boyce thought to himself, âMatthew, you forbid me to touch your daughter. I will get a son and have him marry her in the future. Your daughter will be my daughter-in-law.â
Thinking that, Boyce let out a chuckle.
Matthewâs face suddenly darkened.
Boyce reacted very quickly. Before Matthew could blow on him, he rushed into the car.
Simona blinked, âDad, whatâs child marriage?â Matthew was speechless.
He stroked her hair and led her to the car, âYouâre talking nonsense.â
