“Is this your first time?”

The man’s voice with the scent of her hormone lingered in her ears. It was obvious he was asking her, but he sounded quite anxious.

The man seemed to pause a little. His chest pressed against her back was so warm that the heat seemed to burn her flesh. His cool lips were glued to her skin, ambiguous and eager. He wanted sex with this woman so badly, but he was still holding back, “It’s still not too late for you to regret it.”

“I don’t regret it.”

As soon as she finished her words, the man behind her circling her waist took the opportunity to press her down on the bed. In the darkness, she could not see his face clearly. All she knew was that he was very anxious. His body was as hot as flame. His hands seemed magical: every inch of her skin he touched was like it was on fire.

Nervous and fearful, she wanted to push him away, but thinking of her mother and younger brother in the hospital, she pulled her hands away. She tightened her grip on the bed sheet beneath her.

Suddenly, her body seemed to tear apart. She ached, not only physically, but mentally as well. To stop herself from moaning shamelessly under the man, she bit her lower lip hard to keep silent.

The man was so powerful. For several moments, she couldn’t stand it, wanting to push him away.

“No…”

Suddenly, Dolores awoke from sleep. She opened her eyes, turning them to look around. Then her eyes met the pair of loving eyes upon her.

She was startled.

Immediately she sat up and stammered, “You…. You… Who are you?”

“You stole my line.” The man’s voice was deep and calm. He had short hair and brown eyes that were as elegant as the starry sky at midnight. He looked especially handsome when he curved his lips into a smile. Looking at Dolores’s tears that hadn’t dried, he asked, “Did you have a bad dream just now?”

Dolores clutched the quilt tightly. It was more than a nightmare for her.

Throughout the past few years, she had never dreamed of the things that had happened that night. It was so real in the dream. What had been hidden deep in her heart, which she did not want to mention at all, suddenly appeared in her mind. It was as if the scab of her scar in the past had torn, and her wound was bleeding.

“Did you save me?” he remembered that he could barely breathe in the river, losing consciousness. He had no idea what happened next.

“Yes. To be exact, I asked someone to save you.” The man maintained a faint smile.

However, his eyes were not smiling.

It wasn’t until now that Dolores discovered that the man was sitting in a wheelchair. He was wearing street clothes. A thin blanket covered his legs.

The man’s eyes that were on Dolores were dark. She saw no disdain in his eyes, and instead, he wore only a surprised expression, which made her expression relax.

“Last night I came home and saw someone jump into the river. So I asked my servant to save you,” the man said in a kind tone, “Was someone trying to hurt you?”

He saw her jump into the river, so he could see that someone was chasing her.

Dolores did not respond. She shrank toward the head of the bed. As soon as she moved, she felt a pain in her foot. She frowned.

The man could tell that Dolores was still alerted by him, and he could understand that because he didn’t know him at all and needed to be on guard. Hence, he didn’t keep asking her, “Please don’t worry. You are safe here. I have also asked my doctor to check you. Because of the injuries to your foot, I’m afraid you won’t be able to get out of bed for another half month.”

Dolores knew her foot was injured, but to her surprise, he asked her doctor to check her out, “Thank you very much,” she said.

“You’re welcome. I should help others in the face of injustice. I think even if I wasn’t around, someone else would help you too…besides, you are such a beautiful woman,” the man joked after a brief pause.

Dolores realized that he was teasing her. Although it was a bit unpleasant, after all he had saved her life, so she didn’t show it on her face.

“Where am I now, can I borrow your phone, please?” Ever since she had escaped from Sampson, she wanted to call Samuel badly to tell him she was safe. He wondered how he and Simona would fare while she was away in the last few days.

The man’s gaze rested on Dolores’ wrist, on which was a high quality green jade bracelet. Looking at the jade bracelet, his eyes twinkled a little. She refused, “No, you can’t. She will take care of you from now on. If you need anything, you can tell her.”

As she finished speaking, she powered the wheelchair and left the room. When he reached the door, he stopped and turned to look at her, “What’s your name?”

Dolores opened her eyes, but did not answer him truthfully, “Aurora Flores?”. Her hunch told her that the man in front of her was not simple.

The man smiled: “Aurora Flores? Lola? I like the name. My name is Charles White.”

He had never heard of the city anyway.

“Miss, be calm. Our Young Master is a good man.” Amelia could tell that Dolores was apparently confused. She explained, “He just had some trouble with his legs. He’s a good man.”

The girl was quite young. When she spoke of her Young Master, adoration was written on her face with the shyness of an admirer.

Dolores guessed roughly that she was in love with Charles.

“Now I want to take a nap.” In the last few days under Sampson’s control, Dolores could not sleep well at all. She was quite physically exhausted. At least the man wasn’t supposed to do anything to her so far.

She was too alert, so it was easy for the others to know what was on her mind.

She decided to calm down and tried to make contact with the others.

“It’s all right, miss. Call me if you need anything.” Amelia left the room and closed the door.

Dolores lay down. She could hear birds chirping outside, but drowsiness overcame her.

She lay down, her eyelashes trembling slightly. Then the room fell silent. Soon after, she breathed evenly.

Amelia did not immediately step out of the bedroom door after closing it. Instead, she stood in the doorway and listened to what was going on in the room. After making sure that Dolores was indeed sleeping, she turned around. Charles was sitting by the living room window with his eyes closed.

Hearing her footsteps, he asked, “What’s she doing now?”

“She’s fallen asleep.” Amelia stopped in a place not far from him.

She looked at the man, who was sitting upright as she sat in the wheelchair. She always felt that the heavens were not fair to him. He was such a kind man, but why was his right to walk taken away?

“If he has any demands, just meet them,” Charles said gently.

Amelia was confused and blurted out, “Young Master, do you know her, why are you treating her so nicely after saving her life?”

Charles looked out the window. A lark was on a branch, chirping. Every now and then, the leaves would turn and swerve, but in the end they would fall to the ground.

It was like life.

“It was fate,” he uttered a few words casually.

Fate? Amelia did not find this answer reasonable. If so, she wondered if the same thing happened to her as to the Young Master.

When she was young, she was sold to the White Family. As she became sensitive at a young age, she began to care for him. She wondered if that was fate as he said.

“Did fate join me to you, Young Master?” asked Amelia expectantly.

Charles turned away from the wheelchair to look at the girl under the halo and smiled faintly, “What is destiny?”

Amelia shook her head.

Charles gestured to her, “Go back to your work.”

Amelia wanted to find the answer and to know what was the fate he mentioned.

However, she dared not disobey him, so she could only go back to her work.

Charles glanced into the room where Dolores slept, his gaze deepened. Thinking of the jade bracelet on his wrist, he clenched his hands tightly together suddenly .
