Mary seemed to know what they were there for. She had known this day would come someday, but she hadnât expected it to come so soon.
âWhy do you care what Iâm laughing about?â She stifled her laughter.
In Boyceâs eyes, she suddenly looked like a lunatic.
âWhereâs Dolores?â A grim voice emerged from the darkness.
âHow should I know where she is?â Maria smiled, âWhy, canât you find her? She and that man ran awayâ¦â
She hadnât even finished the sentence when she felt a strong wind rush past her and a pair of iron hands strangle her by the neck, making her unfinished words catch in her throat.
Her face flushed as she struggled for breath.
âTell me, where is she?â her eyes were red. Doloresâ disappearance had left her heartbroken, void of all humanity and protective emotions.
Seeing Matthew so angry because of Dolores, Maria wanted to laugh.
However, the laughter that came from her throat was like a broken bellows and unpleasant to hear.
Matthew used all his strength and squeezed harder almost choking any space she could breathe through. If she had still refused to say anything, he would have strangled her to death!
Boyce watched him strangle her to death and realized that this was not right.
She hurried to persuade him: âItâs important to find Dolores right now! We need her. If she dies, who will tell us where Dolores is?â
âIf she dies, we wonât be able to find her!â Seeing that he wasnât convinced, Boyce continued to persuade.
Although Matthew was beside himself right now, he could also hear Boyceâs words. Right now, it was important to find Dolores first.
He threw her down hard. Mary landed like a parabola on the steps, slamming her forehead against the corners. After a moment of pain and tingling, she could feel something warm coming down from her forehead.
Being able to breathe again, he opened his mouth wide and took in large gulps of air.
Boyce didnât give her much time to relieve the choking pain. He reached out, lifted her hand, and threw her into the car, âLetâs see which wins, your mouth or my skill.â
He had interrogated all kinds of prisoners. He couldnât believe he was unable to get her to talk.
This time Boyce quickly sat down in the driverâs seat and said, âIâll drive!â
He didnât dare let Matthew drive because he was too scared.
His face still grim, Matthew remained silent. Right now, he just wanted to find where Dolores was as soon as possible.
âCaptain Shawn.â Just as Boyce was about to take her away, Landon came out of the house, âIsnât it inappropriate for you to take my daughter away like this? What crime has she committed and where is the evidence?â
He was indignant with Maria for always causing trouble, but seeing her taken away like this seemed like a slap in the face to the entire Herbert Family.
He didnât come to save Maria, but to save the reputation of the Herbert Family.
âYou can rest easy. I wonât catch an innocent person by mistake, and I certainly wonât let a criminal go free. If I catch the wrong person, I will personally come and apologize.â
Saying this, Boyce stepped on the accelerator. The car whizzed past Landon like a rocket with a whistling wind and quickly disappeared from sight.
Warner stepped to Landonâs side, âDid something happen this time?â He wasnât sure.
Landon was also unsure, âGo find out what happened this time.â He seemed to have no strength left to be angry.
âAll right, Iâll go find out as soon as possible.â After saying that Warner went into the house to change his clothes.
On the other side, Maria was led into an interrogation room.
There was a white fluorescent bulb flickering on the ceiling. The room was small with a table in the center and Maria was handcuffed to the seat across from it.
Boyce showed her a video of Beulah Shawn, âTell me, why did you go looking for her?â
âThis person is wearing a mask, how can you tell itâs me?â Maria was surprisingly calm.
Boyce scoffed, âOur technician has analyzed the video. This is you.â
âIf itâs me, then what?â
âWhy did you go to see her?â
âI canât even visit my friends?â said Maria rhetorically.
Boyce narrowed his eyes at her. He could see that she had come prepared.
He feared he couldnât get anything out of her like that.
He nodded, âOkay.â She gave him a thumbs-up gesture, âIâve never seen you be so sharp.â
Boyce knew her when she was with Matthew and used to think she was pretty good, but then somehow she had changed and become disgusting.
Everything that happened in the interrogation room was displayed on the monitor in the control room.
Matthew was sitting in front of the screen and had clearly seen everything that had just happened in the interrogation room.
Obviously, Mary had come prepared, otherwise she would not have been so calm and answered Boyce truthfully.
âWhat should we do?â Boyce stood in the doorway of the control room.
He was trying to feel out Matthewâs attitude with his words.
If his soft methods didnât work, he still had some hard methods. It was just that Mary was usually with Matthew, so it was important to know if Matthew cared about her.
âYou donât need to grope me.â Matthew said. Then his tone turned dangerous, âDonât tell me you canât make a woman talk.â
Boyce turned back to the interrogation room, âDo you know what I was doing just now?â
He continued before Mary could answer, âI went to Matthew to ask him if he still had any old feelings for you. If he had, then I would have taken pity on you, but since he didnâtâ¦â
Although she didnât say the last part of the sentence out loud, the message was clear.
Mary knew Matthew didnât love her and that he was cruel to her.
But hearing Boyce say that, she still had some hope.
Her hands clenched unconsciously and her voice trembled, âWhat did he say?â
Boyce smiled, âI think youâre very sad.â
âClearly you were the first one to be with Matthew, but how did you end up like this?â
Right! She met Matthew first, so how did she end up getting to this point today?
âI donât know if you know, do you?â asked Boyce.
âKnow what?â
âIf you donât want people to know, donât! Originally, you could have had it, but your petty actions ruined your chances. He could have put up with your actions once, twice or even three times, but his patience is limited. You pushed him beyond his limits, so of course he left you behind without hesitation.â
âWhat the hell are you trying to say?â Maryâs expression changed.
âIâm trying to tell you to be nice. To people⦠Beauty doesnât matter! No one will appreciate you if your heart is dark, no matter how pretty you are on the outside.â
Maria laughed out loud like a madwoman, âBoyce, what are you doing thrashing around blindly, donât you want to make me tell you where Dolores is?â
As she said that she raised her head to look at the camera mounted on the wall. She knew Matthew was watching it all from the other room and she knew he must have heard her.
She stared into the camera and said, emphasizing each word slowly, âI donât know where she is. Even if I did, I wouldnât tell you. I hate her and I wish she would die. Maybe sheâs already dead.â
Boyce frowned, âYou really have no shame, do you?â
Maria smiled, âYou have no proof! If you touch a single hair on my head, Iâll sue you.â
âMaria, you really donât know me.â Boyceâs face turned cold.
Bang The door to the interrogation room suddenly kicked open!
