In the villa of the Herbert Familyâ¦.
At this point, the entire Herbert Family had almost gone to sleep. The lights were dim in the huge courtyard. It was quite quiet in the surroundings. Occasionally the rustle of windblown leaves could be heard.
Boyce reached over to tug at Matthew, fearing that he was too impulsive. âEven if you came here, Iâm afraid you still wonât be able to find Dolores.â
âSo you want me to wait? The longer we wait, the worse the situation with her will get.â The red dots of blood gathered in the center of her pupils, glowing a blood red.
Maria used to try to kill Dolores with intentional accidents. If this time Maria took her, she couldnât think at all about the consequences. Now the only thing he could do was to force the Herbert Family to hand Maria over.
Boyce was shocked. Slowly he let go of Matthew. He had never seen the panic on Matthewâs face. He whispered, âWhat good is a friend? Leave this hard work in my hands.â
As soon as he finished speaking, Boyce kicked the door with a loud bang.
The surrounding creatures woke up immediately.
Landon was sleeping soundly. He was awakened by this loud noise. Camilla got up and turned on the lamp on the bedside table. âWhat was that sound just now?â
Landon did not stir. He half closed his eyes, looking rather sleepy. He didnât feel good about being awakened by the loud bang. He replied groggily, âMust be thunder.â After finishing his words, he slept on.
Camilla didnât think so. It was sunny during the day. How could there be a thunderstorm at night?
âStop wondering. Go back to sleep. I donât think anyone is kicking in the door.â
Camilla agreed with him after thinking about it. It was midnight and no one should be there. No burglar should have the nerve to break in.
Thanks to todayâs high technology, the fire- and burglar-proof system was quite advanced.
Camilla turned off the lamp and went to bed again. She curled up in the comforter and slept leaning against Landon.
âAre you a family of pigs?â Boyce kicked the door much harder than he did now.
Bang!
The birds also startled and a huge group of them flew into the sky.
Boyce had practiced martial arts.
He was pretty strong.
âItâs not thunder.â This time Camilla heard it clearly. She got up and turned on the lamp on the bedside table. âThe sound seemed to be coming from the door.â
Landon got up too, the quilt falling across his belly. âHow could there be someone in the middle of the night?â
âLet me take a look.â Camilla got up and went downstairs. Warner was already up. Seeing Camilla, he asked, âDid you hear the big noise at the door, too?â Camilla nodded.
âGo back to sleep, please. Iâll go take a look.â Warner headed for the door as he pulled on a jacket. He opened the door to the house and stepped outside. There were lights in the yard, whose light was dim, not so bright. He could faintly see some figures. He quickened his steps.
He went to the door, pulled the security lock and opened it. Before he could recognize who was there, he received an unexpected kick. He had to back up a few steps, but still landed on his haunches.
Boyce was about to kick the door again, but it opened unexpectedly.
Then his kick landed on Warnerâs body.
Covering his belly, Warner was furious. No one would feel good after being kicked so suddenly.
âWho are you, do you have a death wish, do you know where you are, how dare you make trouble here?â covering his belly, he stood up from the ground, looking at the two figures standing against the light.
Boyce stepped out of the shadow.
Warner saw his face clearly, frowning. âHow can that be you?â he narrowed his eyes. âYou think youâre a cop so you can barge into my house and intimidate me? Youâre breaking the law. Youâre deliberately breaking the law. You want to lose your job?â
Boyce sneered. âIâm just enforcing the law impartially.â
Warner knew Boyceâs identity. Hearing his words, Warner began to feel uncomfortable, wondering what he meant.
Boyce was different from an ordinary person. He could adapt to the current situation fairly quickly. He pulled out his phone and played a video clip in front of Warner.
âThis is your sister, right?â
Warner glanced around: the person was wearing a mask. However, from the figure and the eyes, the person did look like Maria.
âAre you kidding?â Warner didnât want to admit it matter-of-factly. âThe person is wearing a mask-how can I tell if sheâs my sister or not? I can tell sheâs your sister instead. Donât venomously slander others!â
Boyce had predicted that he would not admit it after watching the video clip. He said in an official tone, âYour sister went to visit a woman named Beulah Shawn in jail, and the woman was dead. Now we suspect it was your sister who did it. We will take her back for investigation. Please ask her sister to step outside.â
âBoyce Shawn, stop playing tricks. You just got a video clip and now you want to slander others, donât you?â Warner would not admit that it was Maria in the clip.
âSince itâs not her, call your sister to deal with it.â Boyce didnât give up at all.
âTheyâre all sleeping now. Theyâre disturbing the residence.â Warner seemed calm enough on the surface, but inside he panicked at Boyceâs words.
He couldnât help but wonder what Mary had done again.
âSo now what, you want me to make a fuss and inform everyone that another murder has turned up in the Herbert Family?â It was indeed a threat.
The Herbert Family was very careful about its dignity and reputation. The Sampson incident was not over yet, now if another murder was found in this family, they would be in big trouble.
âWait here.â Warner turned and walked into the house.
There was a big fight at the door, so Landon had already come downstairs.
âWhatâs going on?â Landon made a long face.
âCall Maria Herbert to come down!â shouted Warner to a confused servant. He didnât calm down, but grew more and more furious.
âSheâs only good for stirring up trouble, isnât she?â
âWhat has she done again?â Landon narrowed his eyes, gripping the handrail of the staircase with one hand.
âBoyce Shawn said she was involved in a homicide.â
âWhat?â
Landonâs body shuddered. He was even angrier than Warner. Slapping the handrail hard, which made his palm go numb, he blurted out, âWhat a bitch!â He regretted having recognized her.
The servant woke Maria up. Still in her pajamas, she looked up at the annoyed Warner and Landon and asked, âWhat happened?â
âYouâre asking me?â Warner scoffed. âTheyâre outside. Come out and explain.â
Mary became very quiet. âIâll go. Besides, Warner, calm down. How can you be so angry?â
âStop it!â Landon shouted angrily at her. âYouâd better have nothing to do with this affair. If you make trouble again, Iâll break your legs.â
âYou wish to beat me to death, donât you?â Maria grimaced, turned and headed for the door.
She looked like she didnât respect her father at all.
âDad, look at the attitude heâs got!â Warner blushed in anger.
âIâm not angry?â Landon gasped. âIf Iâd known she always causes trouble. Iâd have strangled her when she was born. Well, I never would have let her be born.â Hearing Landonâs irritating voice, she curved her lips.
She had long since been disappointed in them, but she still felt sad to hear those words.
Surely, interest was the most important thing to those wealthy families.
Family affection? Meat and bones? It was all bullshit!
The night was dark.
Maria approached the door, looking at the two men standing there. Although they were backlit, she recognized Matthew, standing in the darkness.
She couldnât see his expression clearly, his expression was blurred.
She guessed that he had known Dolores was missing, so he came to question her despite her public image and the time, hadnât he?
Did he like that woman that much?
Mary suddenly burst out laughing.
Boyce frowned. âWhat are you laughing at?â
