With a second thought, Dolores thought it was reasonable: Mary was not young. Since she would not marry Matthew, there should be other men. Marriages in such wealthy or noble families were always connected with interests. She would probably have another marriage of convenience to another famous family.
With that thought, it didnât strike her as odd that Mary had bought the wedding dress.
âLola.â Mrs. William approached.
Dolores pushed the thoughts from her mind, looking at Mrs. William. âYes, Mrs.
William?â
The lady tugged on her hand. âIâm going home now. Please take care of this branch.â LEO Corporation is my job for life. Please do your best to take care of this brand for me.â
âI know.â Dolores knew the importance of LEO Corporation to Mrs. William. âI will treat it as my career for life, protecting and defending it.â
âI trust you.â Mrs. William hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. âTake care of yourself.â
âCanât you stay here a little longer?â Dolores tried to get her to stay.
To this lady, Dolores not only took her as her boss, but also as family to whom she had gratitude for receiving her help and encouragement.
âI still have something to work out at home, and Iâve stayed here long enough. Itâs time for me to come back.â
âIâll give you a ride,â Dolores asked Theresa to give her the car key.
Mrs. William laughed, âHow can you drive in a dress?â
Dolores lowered her head and glanced down at her dress. She laughed. Reaching out, she lifted the hem of the dress and tied a knot in the front, and her straight legs were exposed. âNow I can drive like this.â
Mrs. William was still laughing, rubbing her hair affectionately.
Dolores walked out of the tent with Mrs. William. Theresa and Allison walked them to the door. Dolores looked back. âIâll take Mrs. William to the airport and make sure she gets on the plane safely. Please take care of the other business here. Thank you.â âSure, donât worry.â Allison gave her an OK gesture and waved her off.
After dismissing Mrs. William, Dolores returned to the store. Everything was well taken care of by Theresa and Allison. On the couch in the reception room sat a man.
Seeing Dolores enter, Terry stood up. He complained, âLola, weâre friends now, arenât we? Why didnât you invite me to your store opening ceremony today? Even though Iâm not rich, I can come to support you, canât I?â.
âI didnât mean to. I forgot, really,â Dolores replied apologetically.
Terry knew she wasnât that kind of snobbish woman, so he didnât take it seriously.
The reason he approached her was not to question her, but because of the marriage issue. Matthew asked her to slow him down, and he didnât understand, so he went over to ask her.
âAbout the car accident, what are you thinking about now, arenât you in a hurry, why delay, donât you know that the longer it has gone on the less beneficial it has been to the case?â
Since the last time Matthew had asked her to let him have the case, she hadnât asked. If it wasnât for Terry asking, she had almost forgotten about it.
She sat on the couch, rubbing her brow, getting a migraine.
âDonât you feel well?â asked Terry with concern. âI shouldnât have asked you, should I?â
âNot really.â Dolores shook her head. âIâll ask him whatâs wrong when I see him tonight. Iâll ask him why heâs been delayed.â
âSure.â Terry noticed that Dolores was in a bad mood. âIâve got to go now. Call me if you have any news.â
âOkay.â
When Terry left, Dolores and Theresa began to sort through the orders received today. Since they did not run a clothing store, which depended on sales from orders, they designed and made garments for customers on request.
Certainly, the cost here was much higher than that of an ordinary clothing store.
Ordinary people could not afford their clothes.
Since Theresa needed opportunities, Dolores gave one of the orders to her.
She gave the other to Allison.
Allison refused. âThe client appointed you as designer on purpose. I donât think I should assume that. Besides, I donât need this order to present my ability.â
Looking up, she said proudly, âIâm already quite famous. I donât need to be offered an opportunity.â
Theresa remained silent because she did need that opportunity.
She loved to design.
âOkay. Iâll give the two orders to Theresa, then.â Dolores passed the customer information to Theresa. âWork hard.â
âButâ¦â Theresa didnât think it was appropriate this way. She couldnât take care of both of them. After all, Dolores had given her plenty of opportunities.
âDonât hesitate. Iâll show the design drafts to the clients first. If theyâre happy with them, Iâll tell them theyâre designed by you. Since they will have already approved it, they wonât object.â Dolores had already thought about how to present Theresaâs work to the clients.
âButâ¦â
âStop it,â Allison interrupted her, âLola doesnât need any opportunity to prove herself, but youâre the one who needs that opportunity. Youâve been working with her for a long time, so she wants you to improve. Take advantage of it.â
Theresa was grateful. However, she stubbornly continued to ask, âArenât you afraid she might get better in the future?â
Dolores rubbed her hair. âI wish.â
This girl had been working with her for a long time. She was professional and responsible when it came to getting things done and had the necessary skills. All she needed was the opportunity to present her capabilities.
Theresa opened her arms and hugged Dolores. âThank you, Lola.â
âWeâre already very close. Please donât even mention it.â Dolores patted her on the back.
âSo you both want to leave me alone, do you?â Allison pretended to be jealous as she stepped aside.
âOf course not.â Dolores pulled her close and the three women embraced.
Dolores patted them on the back and then released them. âLetâs go home early today. Itâs been a long day.â
âIndeed, Iâm exhausted,â Allison said, âItâs been a long time since Iâve worked like this.â
âYes. I also have to carefully consider the requirements of those two clients,â Theresa said.
âVery well. You can go now. Iâll leave later.â
âDonât stay too late then.â
âLola, I can close the store for you. Samuel and Simona are still waiting for you at home.â Theresa believed Dolores was much busier and needed to take care of more things.
âThatâs okay. I want to stay here by myself for a while. You can go now.â Doloresâ mind was still in chaos at the moment.
So much had happened recently, she actually wanted to be with herself.
âCome on.â Allison put her arm around Theresaâs neck. Obviously, something was bothering Dolores now, so she needed peace, which Allison understood all too well.
Theresa was pulled along by Allison. They were staying together and Theresa had a car. They could come to work and go home together, which was quite convenient.
When they left, everything, including the air around her, seemed to sink into silence. Dolores was sitting on the couch, resting her cheek with one hand, remembering what had happened today. She wondered since when the atmosphere had become so creepy.
Would Beulah have something to do with the photo and the message she received on her phone?
It all happened together, causing such chaos that was so hard to understand. She couldnât help but wonder who had sent her the photo.
The message showed that the person who sent her those things was very clear about what had happened then.
And the person must have known her well too, which made her very uneasy.
She took out her phone and entered, âWho are you, why did you send me the message?â.
After that, she stared at the text box instead of sending it.
She clearly knew that the person was luring her using this matter. However, she was unsure of that personâs purpose.
At that moment, her phone started ringing, interrupting her thoughts. Caller ID replaced the message window.
It was a call from Matthew.
Dolores peeked out, only to find that it was already dark outside. She swiped her finger to answer the phone. Soon she heard a manâs deep voice on the other end of the line. âIâm outside the store.â
âComing.â
Dolores stood up and gently patted her cheeks to cheer herself up. Then she turned off the light and closed the door to the store. As soon as she turned around, she saw the car parked on the shoulder.
It was completely dark. Neon lights were on along the long street. Matthew had taken off his suit jacket. In his shirt, he was leaning against the car and staring at his phone.
He received a message from Boyce. He had found the cause of Beulahâs death, which was a real suicide.
As soon as Boyceâs men had taken her away, they had locked her up. She had not contacted anyone and there was no communication tool in her. Her death approved that what had happened was planned.
But he couldnât understand why Beulah would have killed herself.
âThere must be someone behind this.â
Boyce sent another message to Matthew.
âWhat are you reading?â Dolores chimed in.
âNothing.â Matthew put his phone away. It wasnât until then that he realized the hem of her dress was tied in a knot over her thigh. Her fair, straight, slender legs were exposed. His eyes twitched a little, wondering what kind of picture this was.Who was she showing her legs to?
