She turned to see Matthew standing behind her. With the light behind her head, she couldnât make out his expressions clearly and could only squint to try to see.
The receptionist took the card in Matthewâs hand and said, âThe total bill for both rooms is 12080.â
âAh! So sister-in-law Dolores drove the car here.â blurted out Armand. Dolores lowered her head and put the card back in her purse. She asked Matthew in a low voice, âAre you coming back?â.
Before Matthew could answer, Armand took the initiative, âItâs so early, whatâs this about going back? Besidesâ¦â He pointed to Matthew and Dolores, âThe two of you still owe me a celebratory drink for your wedding. Letâs do it tonight.â
Matthew didnât object and his eyes hid in the elusive light, not showing his heart.
Dolores only felt embarrassed, mostly because of the awkward way Armand addressed her. âI wonât go; you can go first.â She turned to leave, but Matthew grabbed her wrist, âWait for me.â
Dolores wanted to pull away from him, but he was holding her wrist too tightly for her to break free.
By then, the receptionist had settled the bill and handed him back the card with the receipt, âYour total is 12080.â
Matthew pocketed the card and bill in his wallet, then said lightly, âLetâs go!â.
Armand had no intention of letting them go so easily and stepped in front of them, âIf you donât take me out for a drink tonight, Iâll never let you leave.â He stubbornly stepped in front of them.
Theresa, who was standing behind them, stepped back silently, wanting to leave.
Armand saw in the mirror that the woman behind them was secretly trying to leave.
Armand had seen that she had just left the room with Dolores, which meant they knew each other. He turned around and grabbed her, âDonât leave.â Theresa startled and looked at him in horror.
âDonât be afraid, youâre a friend of my sister-in-lawâs, arenât you?â. Armand smiled at her with his dazzling white teeth in his face.
He looked at Dolores and nodded, âIâm her assistant.â
âOh! What do you do?â
âCostume design.â
âOh! What a coincidence, Iâve been longing to order some clothes.â
âWell, our store opens the day after tomorrow. Iâd love to invite you over.â Theresa replied blandly.
What?
Armand blinked uncomprehendingly, âYou have a store that opens the day after tomorrow?â
Theresa nodded.
Armand hugged Boyce, who was watching him eagerly, and tugged on his collar. âOur sister-in-law is opening her store, of course we have to go cheer her on.â
âYes.â replied Boyce.
It seemed to him that, although Matthew and Dolores were divorced, they had children together and it was only a matter of time before they remarried.
Judging by Matthewâs demeanor, it seemed that he really cared about her.
This was great and they had to go to the opening, even if they didnât have time.
Armand smiled, his lips red and his teeth white, âDolores, if you donât take us out for a drink tonight, Iâm not getting out of here.â He was really shameless.
Dolores frowned.
She looked at Matthew, hoping he would talk to her friend.
Hoping he wouldnât let her embarrass herself.
What celebration drinks for the wedding?
What celebration?
Matthew pretended not to have seen her look. He continued to hold her hand and play with it.
He did not refuse Armandâs wish.
When he married Dolores, there was nothing and he didnât even introduce her to his best friends.
She was inexplicably glad that Armand called her his sister-in-law.
He had not introduced her to his friends before because he was not interested in her.
At the time, he didnât want this marriage.
But now it was different, he wanted to keep this marriage and keep her together with him.
Now, he wanted to show her off.
Besides, Armand and Boyce were his good friends.
He wanted to let them know that.
âIf Dolores is busy, then we can go first. Boyce and I can go have a drink with her.â Armand grabbed Theresaâs arm and started to walk out.
âDolores!â Theresa yelled in a panic.
âWait.â Dolores had no choice but to agree.
âLet her go.â
Armand had done this deliberately. He knew the woman Matthew was in love with would never be too easy to get along with; she wouldnât stand by and watch her assistant being taken away and remain indifferent.
As it turned out, she was right.
He let Theresa go.
She backed away quickly, increasing the distance between her and Armand.
He looked more like a terrifying monster than a human.
âLetâs go then. Iâll decide where and todayâs on me.â Armand was in a good mood, but Boyce poured cold water on his words, âYeah? You, the cheapskate of the century, will you pay?â.
As long as Matthew was there, he never paid.
Armand glared at him, âDonât ruin my reputation in front of beautiful women. Iâm very generous.â
Boyce smiled and got into his car.
âGet in my car.â Armand motioned to Theresa.
Theresa waved her hands quickly, âNo, no, you guys go ahead. Iâll be back now.â
âWhat are you afraid of? I donât eat people.â Armand smiled.
Theresa was still refusing, âI have other plans.â He casually excused himself.
After saying that, he turned and left with a quick goodbye to Dolores.
Dolores waved goodbye to her, âOkay, be careful.â
Theresa nodded. As she made her way to the side of the road, she realized there was a problem. There were no cabs going by. Everyone who went there for lunch had their own car to get back.
She gave her car to Allison â what was she going to do now?
âCome with us. There are no cabs here.â Armand parked his car next to her.
Theresa wanted to find Dolores, but at that point she was already in Matthewâs car.
âYou donât want to disturb the husbands, do you?â
âNo.â
âCome on, Iâll leave you.â
Theresa stood nervously, âUm, no thanks!â
âAre you sure?â
âIâm sure!â
Theresa said confidently.
She was not blind. She knew they were an extraordinary group of people and she didnât want to provoke such a person.
Boyce seemed like an honest person, but Armand seemed like a playboy.
She wanted nothing to do with a greaseball like him.
Armand was rebuffed again and again and his enthusiasm was wearing thin as well.
He rolled up the window and looked at Theresa for a while.
She seemed funny to him, too careful in his opinion.
She wasnât a bad person.
Why was she suspicious of him as if he were a thief?
After his car disappeared into the distance, Theresa had no choice but to call Allison to come pick her up.
Armandâs chosen location was an upscale bar.
The time of night was lively, the nightlife had just begun.
The large second floor lounge was spacious and had a great view. They could see the entire bar and the dance floor on the second floor. Men and women were dancing recklessly among the red and green lights.
Armand was standing at the railing on the second floor with a glass of wine dangling in his hand as he swung his legs around looking like an idiot.
Boyce had long been accustomed to his behavior; it was not strange to him.
âBehave yourself!â he reminded Armand.
Today, Dolores was also with them.
Armand was also surprised that it went this far. He sat up quickly and corrected his ungainly appearance, âSister-in-law, I introduced myself last time. You still remember me, donât you?â.
Dolores tucked her hair behind her ear, trying not to look embarrassed by the way he was addressing her, âI remember.â
âThis is Boyce Shawn.â Armand smiled, putting his hand on Boyceâs shoulder, âHeâs also a friend of mine and Matthewâs.â
Boyce elbowed him in the ribs, âDonât I have a mouth? I can speak for myself.â
âIâm afraid you wonât be able to talk right. Remember when you were trying to talk to girls in college? Blushing and⦠Ouch!â
âOh, did that hurt? I didnât notice.â Boyce pinched him harder. He had been seriously trained, Armand with his soft, tender skin was no match for him.
He scrunched up his face in pain.
Dolores could see they had a strong friendship beyond their bickering.
She leaned over to Matthew and whispered, âIâm going to the bathroom.â Matthew let go of her hand and weakly conceded.
Dolores got up and went outside, following the directions to find the bathroom.
Unfortunately, as she was entering, someone came out and bumped into her at the door.
