Simona smiled, showing a row of small white teeth.
âReally!â
Sampson looked at Samuel, who hadnât spoken so far, and asked, âSamuel, why arenât you talking?â
Samuel looked distressed, âIâm in a bad mood.â
âYouâre a kid! Whatâs ruining your mood?â Jessica said, âDidnât your mommy give you back your smartwatch and tablet? What else do you need to cheer you up? Why are you pulling my clothes?â
Samuel wanted to stop Jessica but she didnât understand.
âYou⦠stop talking and let my uncle see me like this.â Samuel quickly organized his words, but saying the word âuncleâ made him nauseous.
That inhuman beast was not worthy to be called his uncle.
âSamuel, show me your smartwatch. Iâve forgotten what it looked like.â
Sampson had deliberately tipped his teacup over Jessicaâs phone. Soaked in water, it had gone out. Jessica hadnât brought it.
She looked specifically at Samuelâs wrist, who hadnât brought anything either.
She could not allow Samuel to contact Dolores.
Samuelâs eyes flickered, âThatâ¦I forgot to bring it.â
Sampson knew Samuel was smart, and his eyes clearly showed only a hint of guilt.
What was he feeling guilty about?
Sampson narrowed his eyes. Jessicaâs reaction was normal, she wasnât looking out for him, which meant Dolores hadnât told her what had happened.
Without even telling Jessica, Dolores would never have told the two five-year-olds.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed Samuelâs number.
Soon the sound of a doorbell rang in the car.
Sampson clearly recognized this sound.
It was from Samuelâs smartwatch.
Samuel tried to reach his pocket in time, but it was too late.
âSamuel, why did you lie to your uncle? You forgot that I bought this smarwatch for you. I programmed it specially, so that when I or your mommy call you, it will ring even if itâs on silent.â
Samuel only remembered when the smartwatch had already beeped.
How could he forget something so important?
Samuel hung his head in annoyance, âI⦠I didnât want to show you.â
He lowered his head so Sampson couldnât see his expression.
âI remember that this smartwatch also has tracking enabled. At the time, I was afraid youâd get lost.â
âYes.â Samuel sensed something was wrong and tried to call Matthew.
Suddenly, Sampson parked the car on the side of the road and turned to look at Samuel, âWho do you want to call?â
âI didnât make any calls.â Samuel panicked, dropping his smartwatch. This one fell face up, displaying the words âHeartless Guyâ.
This was Samuelâs nickname for Matthew.
In his opinion, he abandoned his mother and them. He was a heartless guy.
Even if they had a cooperative relationship now, it didnât mean she forgave him.
Sampson bent down and picked it up, looking at the name on it, and asked, âWho is it?â
Beads of sweat appeared on Samuelâs forehead as he spoke nervously, âMy teacher, he likes to take care of me, so I gave him a nickname.â
Sampson knew that he used to study at AC University and had a professor, so he no longer doubted him.
âThis smartwatch is too old, itâs time to change it.â After saying so, he pulled the square electric plate out of it.
The screen went dark.
âNo, I donât want to change it.â Samuel reached out to take it, but Sampson easily avoided it.
Jessica realized that Sampsonâs behavior was very strange. âThe smartwatch is still usable.â
Sampson tossed the smartwatch into the small river not far from the road. His car had already reached the outskirts of town.
Jessica asked him why they were so far out of town.
Sampson said that the place he had booked was a farm that was outside of town.
Only then did Jessicaâs doubts dissipate.
âAfter lunch, when I go back to the supermarket, Iâll buy you a new one. This one was too old and a lot of things would have stopped working.â
âIt looked great and it just rang. It did work.â Jessica vaguely noted Sampsonâs oddity.
âIâll buy him another one.â Sampson started the car and drove back toward the highway.
Suddenly, Samuel grabbed the hem of Sampsonâs shirt, âI want to go home.â
âWeâll be there soon, why do you want to go home?â Sampson had no intention of stopping.
âIâ¦Iâ¦â Samuelâs brain was working too fast. He needed to find a reason. Suddenly he had an idea, he grabbed his stomach and yelled, âMy stomach hurts, I want to go to the bathroom.â
âThere is no bathroom here, please hold it a little.â
âNo, I canât hold it any longer.â Samuel curled up in the back seat, looking very pained.
âDoctor Herbert, you should stop for a bit. Samuel is in pain.â Jessica placed Simona in the seat and reached over to hug Samuel, placing a hand on his stomach.
âHave you eaten something cold, is it diarrhea?â
Jessicaâs heart broke with worry.
âMaybeâ¦â Samuel was shaking in pain, he looked extremely sore, âIâm about to die in pain, I want to go to the bathroom.â
On the other side, Dolores climbed into Matthewâs car, still thinking his behavior was strange. She asked, âWhere are you taking me?â.
âI just got a call from your son at the officeâ¦â
Suddenly, his phone vibrated and interrupted him. He looked at the caller ID, saw it was Abbott and picked it up.
Abbottâs voice rang out immediately, âThe tracker suddenly went dead.â Matthew suddenly felt nervous-how could this be?
Had Sampson found out?
âWhere was the last location before it shut down?â
âNear the Dingqiao Bridge.â
âWhere is it now?â
âIâm going there right now.â
Matthew thought calmly for two seconds, and told him to gather some people and go check that location.
Dingqiao Bridge was already far away from the city, and that place was relatively remote. He speculated that the place Sampson was going to must be nearby.
âCheck if there is a hideout nearby.â
After hanging up, Dolores immediately asked, âDid Samuel call you?â
Matthew was originally going to tell her, but now that there was a problem, he was afraid she would worry. So he decided not to say anything and just hummed lightly.
âWhy does he have your phone number?â Dolores frowned. Samuel hated him so much, why was he contacting Matthew?
Was there something she didnât know?
She began to panic.
âI gave it to him when we had lunch together last time. Weâre no longer enemies; weâre friends now. His prejudice against me is gone.â explained Matthew patiently.
Dolores still felt uncomfortable.
âReally?â
âReally.â
Back in Sampsonâs car, Jessicaâs really anxious, âStop somewhere quickly, Samuelâs not feeling well!â
Sampson glanced at the carâs GPS. They werenât too far from their destination. It wasnât going to take long to stop here, and he had already destroyed Samuelâs contact tool. Samuel wouldnât be able to contact anyone, so he stopped the car.
He got out of the car, walked to the back seat and said to Jessica, âIâll take care of Samuel, you stay in the car with Simona. This is a remote place, there could be bad people around so be careful.â
âOkay.â Jessica replied.
âDude, you take me. I canât walk, my stomach hurts.â Samuel wrapped his arms around Sampsonâs waist, looking weak.
Sampson looked up at him, âDoes it really hurt?â
âYes, why would I lie to you?â Samuel settled into his arms, hugging him tightly, as if they were very close.
Now that he was sick, he looked weak.
Sampson had watched Samuel grow from the time he was a baby until now, she felt for him.
Seeing him in so much pain, Sampsonâs heart softened a little, âDonât worry, Iâll carry you.â
Lying in his arms, Samuel put his hand in his pocket as he deliberately spoke to him, âUncle, am I going to die?â
âWhat nonsense! Itâs just a stomachache, not a terminal illness.â Sampson comforted him.
âBut it hurts so much, it really hurts. Iâm about to die in pain.â He deliberately moved his arms to disguise his movement to pull out his phone.
âItâs not that easy to die. If you die, how is your mother going to surviveâ¦â Speaking of Dolores, his eyes darkened.
Samuel managed to grab Sampsonâs phone and sneaked it into his pocket.
âHere.â Sampson set it down in the middle of the woods.
Samuel dropped his pants as soon as his feet touched the ground and crouched down.
