My body moved of its own accord and I found myself sitting on the bed but I made my displeasure known by dragging my feet and crossing my arms over my chest. Darius' eyes followed the action of my arms and lingered on my breasts. I was sore and tired but that did not stop me from squeezing my thighs shut.
"The deal was to get out of each other's systems," I said directing his attention back to my face. "We've done that so the appropriate thing is for me to go home now."
"Do you even know what time it is? I'm sure everyone in your house is asleep. It would be stupid of you to go home at this time. Your car isn't even here yet, are you going to walk?'
"You are such an asshole."
"I'm the asshole who made you cum three times in a night and whose name you were screaming. What does that say about you?"
I flushed pink and I muttered a long curse under my breath which made him roll his eyes. He picked up the clothes from the floor and placed them in a heap on the chair. I was still naked and cold air blew from the window making me shiver. Darius noticed the movement and without a word, he walked towards the closet and pulled out a shirt then threw it in my direction.
It hit me square in the face and I resisted the urge to throw it back at him. "I don't want your stupid shirt."
"Then sleep naked," he shrugged without a care in the world and put on a fresh pair of boxers. "I can't deal with this right now, so I'm sleeping in another room. Put it on or not, I don't give a shit. You're the one who will end up being cold."
I hated how dismissive he was being so I squeezed the shirt into a ball and threw it in his direction hoping it would hit him just like it did for me. He caught it effortlessly with one hand and simply placed it on the door of the closet in case I changed my mind. He walked out of the room without another word and I let out a scream of frustration into my pillow.
I had just fucked Darius Lunar. Not just that, but I enjoyed fucking him. What was I thinking? He was my boss and he was an arrogant prick. I had my fair share of arrogant and entitled pricks in the city and I was determined not to repeat it. As if that wasn't enough, he was a werewolf and I was sure that he had a million secrets.
I wrapped myself in the blanket and curled up into myself. I knew I was being stubborn by refusing to put on the shirt and I was going to suffer it the next day but my pride was bigger than my common sense so I forced myself to drift off to sleep despite shivering under the blanket.
Sometime during my sleep, I heard the door open. I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not but I felt a figure by the side of the bed. I was too exhausted to open my eyes but I heard shuffling and felt the blanket being pulled off my body. I grumbled slightly but made no move to get up and pull it back onto my body.
"You are the most frustrating woman I have ever met in my life," I heard Darius grumble and then I felt him lift my body slightly. "You better stay asleep for this."
I wanted to ask what was going on or at least open my eyes but I felt too weak to move. I felt him pull a material over my head and weave my hands through it. He was incredibly gentle and something about his touch was soothing. Once he was done, he pulled off my boots and placed them on the floor. He made sure I was well dressed then pulled the blanket over my body. I was awake by this time but I remained completely still so as not to break the spell.
He stood up from the bed and made his way over to the window then closed it. Once he was done, he turned off the lights and walked out of the room as if nothing happened. He was gone without a trace and all that was left of him was his scent lingering in the air.
I woke up later than I normally would. I glanced out of the window and the sun was out. I muttered a curse under my breath and rushed out of bed. I needed to get home early and figure out an excuse I would give Grandma because I was not going to tell her that I had sex with Darius. I picked up my shirt only to remember that Darius had ripped it in two so I had nothing to wear.
I ran my hands through my hair in frustration when I realized I would have to wear his shirt home. I hoped Grandma didn't recognize his cologne or I was done for. I put on my boots and my shorts and tied Darius' shirt at my waist so it didn't look too indecent with the way it dwarfed my frame. I planned to rush out as quickly as possible so I didn't have to encounter Darius but my plans were soiled because as soon as I pulled open the door, he was standing there.
"For someone so insistent on going home last night I would have thought you would have left before the sun came up."
"If I woke up early, I would have," I snarked back to him and he made a hum of disbelief in his throat. "Excuse me, I need to go."
I tried to sidestep him but his hand darted out to stop me. I froze in my tracks as he took a step closer to me and buried his head in the crook of my neck to- did he just sniff me? He took a long inhale and pulled back with a smirk. He folded his hands over his chest and had a self-satisfied look on his face that had the hair at the back of my neck standing up.
"What is it now?" I couldn't help but ask.
"You smell like sex and more importantly, you smell like me. Now anyone you come across will know that you're mine."
I rolled my eyes at the last sentence. "I guess that's my cue to take a shower then. You should too."
I brushed past him before he could say another word and walked out the front door. My car was seated in the driveway and I briefly wondered if he went to get it or if he asked someone else to get it. If it was the latter then it meant that someone already knew about our little encounter. One thing I learned the hard way is that if you want to keep a secret then you have to make sure no one knows about it and it looked like that option was down the drain.
I decided to think about it later and focus on what lie I was going to tell Grandma because I knew she was worried. My phone died through the night and I was sure that she had called me at least five times. When I got to the house, she was standing on the porch and as soon as she saw me, she let out a sigh of relief.
She rushed over to me and pulled me into a hug then began to hit my upper arm hard. I winced and moved away from her reach.
"I have been looking all over for you," she exclaimed. "I was ready to call the police and send out a search party. You didn't call or text and I called you like ten times."
"I'm sorry, I lost track of time and I went home with Serena," I lied. "I'm fine, it doesn't matter. What matters is that I am home now and I promise that it will not happen again.
She stared at me as if she was not sure whether she wanted to hit me or hug me. I knew she did not believe me but finally, she decided on the latter and practically pulled me into the house. Chris was on the couch with a bowl of popcorn in his hands and he raised a brow when he saw me.
"Whose shirt is that?' he drawled from his position. "Don't tell me you got it from a man."
"I got it from Serena and you should mind your business."
He opened his mouth to speak so I picked up a pillow and chucked it right at his head. He was able to catch it and he put it behind his head and gave me a sarcastic thumbs
up to thank me. I was about to throw another pillow at him when Grandma returned from the kitchen.
"You should freshen up," she told me. "We have a lot to talk about."
I nodded and rushed to my room. I was relieved that no one had noticed Darius' perfume or if they did, they did not comment on it. I took a long and well-needed shower and when I was done, I changed into something more comfortable. I still had work later but until then, I wanted to relax in sweats and have breakfast.
I made my way back to the living room and Grandma had placed a plate of food for me that Chris was stealing from. I slapped him on the back of his head and he jumped. He must not have noticed my arrival and he had the gall to shoot me an innocent look as if he had not just been stealing my bacon.
I made to hit him again by Grandma returned and cleared her throat. I reluctantly left him alone and took my seat but cradled my food to my chest.
"Now, I know I am not your mother so I cannot tell you guys what to do," she began and I sat up instantly because her tone was serious. Even Chris gave her his full attention. "I know you have lives and friends but I want to ask that you return home before it is too late."
Grandma had always been liberal with us and she had never taken on that tone before. I suddenly felt a wave of guilt hit me. Was this because I came back late? I didn't realize she would be so upset by it.
"Grandma, I'm sorry, I didn't realize it would be such a-"
"It is not because of you, Leindra," she cut me off and let out a huge sigh. "Something
else happened and I just want to know that you are both safe."
"What happened?" I asked. "Is everything okay? You sound worried."
"Someone was killed last night."
