Those Who Meet Must Part (2)
This was the third time Seo Junho had gone to the Player Market since heâd returned. He enjoyed the crowd of bustling people, and the energy was infectious. When he saw people milling about, he felt like he had to try harder.
âMy, this is an interesting place.â It was the first time the Frost Queen had come here. She twirled around, taking in her surroundings. Suddenly, she pulled on his shirt.
âContractor! Contractor! Letâs go over there. There are so many peculiar items.
âMagic tea? I wonder how it tastes. Let us retrieve a glass.
âEek! A stray cat! Those beasts are everywhereâ¦â
âHey. You always brag about Niflheim, so why are you so excited about a market?â
ââ¦It canât be helped.â She was worn out from long periods of flying around, so she sat down on his shoulder. âI spent most of my life inside the castle.â
âHuh? Wasnât it suffocating?â
âOf course it was. If I had to describe it⦠A monarchâs life is â3Dâ.â As a queen, she should have been able to do whatever she wanted, but the bitter smile on her face said otherwise. âLeading the kingdom is difficult, dangerous, and dauntless. This is the weight that a leader must carry.â
ââ¦So thatâs why itâs â3Dâ.â
âYou should understand. The more responsibilities you have, the more you must lower yourself.â
âYeah.â Of course, heâd never been a king, nor had he led a country. But heâd once carried the expectations of an entire world on his shoulders. âI think I get it. There were a lot of times I felt that back then.â
Sometimes, heâd felt like he couldnât breathe, as if all his freedom had been snatched away. Heâd had no privacy at all and couldnât go out in public like he could now, which is why heâd spent all his time at home. It had been the one place where he could take off his mask and relax.
âThough, Iâd assume that a monarch would have it much worse than I did.â
âI have never experienced freedom from the moment I was born. However, I have never once hated my life because it was dedicated to my kingdom and people.â
He supposed that this was the difference between them. Seo Junho never wanted to live his life as Specter ever again. âSo you were literally born to be a queen.â
âFufu, Iâve heard that many times.â She laughed lightly. âBut no matter how much you enjoy your life, there are times when you long for things that you cannot have.â
âOf course. Iâve felt that way many times.â
âI wanted to know what it was like to be carefree. I couldnât experience it before I died, but I am enjoying my life here on Earth. Living like this is also nice.â
At some point, they arrived at the workshop. Seo Junho knocked on the door, and Kwon Palmo greeted him.
âWhy, if it isnât Player Seo Junho!â His bulky muscles were drenched in sweat, as if heâd just put down his hammer. âWelcome. You should have called ahead!â
He grinned, but it was almost scary, enough to make the Frost Queen tremble. âC-contractor. What is that monsterâ¦?â
âChill, heâs a human.â
âDid you come to meet grandfather?â
âYes. I came here to say goodbye.â
âI see.â When a player came to say their farewells, it either meant that they were retiring, or that they were going to the 2nd Floor. âSo youâre going to Frontier.â
âYes. There was no need to push it off.
âNow that I think about it, I never got to thank you properly for Black Armor. Iâm truly grateful. Its defense capabilities are amazing.â
âHehe, is that so?â He blushed. âGrandfather is upstairs, so you can head right up. Oh, do you want me to take a look at the armor? If there are a lot of defects, Iâll fix it while you two chat.â
âReally? I wonât refuse.â Seo Junho grinned. Black Armor had worn out a lot after the fight with Kis Bremen and Kal Signer. If Palmo hadnât offered, he wouldâve asked anyway. He placed it on the table.
âLetâs seeâ¦â Palmoâs face went pale. ââ¦Who in the world did you fight?â
âEhe.â There were too many to list them all, but if it werenât for Black Armor, he wouldâve died a long time ago.
âHm. This will take some time. About six hours, give or take.â
âIâm counting on you. Iâll be with Noya until then.â
âYes, itâs a good thing that you came so early. Iâll finish by lunchtime.â
As Kwon Palmo began his work, Seo Junho went up the stairs and down a familiar hallway. He knocked on the door.
âWhat?!â a voice barked.
âGeez, you should be nicer to your only grandson.â Seo Junho clicked his tongue and opened the door. Kwon Noya stared at him.
âWhy are you here?â
âWhatâs up? I came to play.â
âHmph.â Noya snorted, but he stepped aside to let him in. âWhat do you want me to make this time?â he asked, taking a seat.
âI didnât come here for equipment. Though, I did ask Palmo to repair Black Armor.â
âHm, if you didnât come here for that⦠Are you going up?â he asked.
âBingo.â
âYou sure are fast,â he said, amazed. He had only opened his eyes a few months ago, but heâd already reached level 30. âIâve been keeping up with the news. I saw that youâve been busy.â
âI have to work hard to save my friends.â
Kwon Noyaâs eyes darkened. He didnât say another word as he brewed the tea and handed him a cup.
âDo you think itâs possible?â
âDefinitely.â If he kept going like this, heâd be able to save his friends eventually.
âThatâs all that matters.â He didnât say anything else as he sipped his tea. He trusted him. âIf you get any good materials, come down from time to time. Iâll make you something good.â
âOf course. Who else would make my weapons?â There was no one as skilled as Kwon Noya. âAlso, Palmoâs a lot more talented than I thought. Black Armor impressed me.â
ââ¦Well, itâs good that you liked it,â he mumbled. Kwon Noya was weak to compliments for his grandson. âIs there anything you need? I have a lot of leftover items. Theyâre only Rare-grade, but they might be useful.â
ââOnly Rareâ, you say⦠You better not go around saying things like that.â The items were from the Kwon workshop, after all. There had been an uproar when Black Armor had been revealed as well. âThanks, though. Iâll make good use of this.â
âI believe in you.â Noya stood up and patted him on his shoulder before hugging him. Even though the old man was much shorter than him, he hugged him so hard that he almost choked.
âIâll be back. Stay healthy.â
âI will. Whether you come back alone or with the others, Iâll be waiting.â He finally let go and smiled. âWell, Iâll just study Go while youâre gone.â
Seo Junho returned the smile. âReally, you should give up. You suck at Go.â
âWhat did you say?â
That day, they played Go for seven hours straight. Of course, Seo Junho won every single game.
Seo Junho returned to the Association with his newly fixed Black Armor and headed straight for Cha Si-eunâs cubicle at the secretary office. She was typing on her keyboard while talking on the phone.
âYes, hello? Oh⦠You believed that youâre being defamed? Just a second. What was the name of the guild again? Tiger Moth? Thatâs a really nice name. Please call again if you have any other complaints.â She hung up and quickly wrote something down on a post-it.
The Brave Ones
Figmore Clan
â¦â¦
Tiger Moth
They were all guilds that had sponsored him, received refunds, and then had been publicly humiliated. Sheâd written down all the ones that had called to complain that theyâd hurt their reputation.
âJunho-nim told me to bring him all the people that accused him of defamationâ¦â She finished writing and smiled as she read it over. Seo Junho looked over her shoulder.
âYouâre doing very well. So those are all the people who complained?â
âYes, itâs so ridiculous howâEek!â she yelped in surprise and leapt out of her seat. She covered her reddening face as people started to stare. âWh-when did you arrive?â
âHmâ¦Â âHello? You believe that youâre being defamed?â From there.â
âAck, so you were here from the very beginningâ¦â
âYouâre good at talking.â He smiled and plucked the post-it from her cubicle and put it in his pocket. âIâll take care of these guys before I go, so donât worry.â
âReally? Thank you!â She brightened. Theyâd been calling her nonstop. âBy that, you meanâ¦â
âIâm going to the 2nd Floor.â
âOf course.â
âYou donât seem very surprised.â
It was to be expected. Sheâd expected this to happen and had already turned in her resignation letter.
âI hope you find a better boss once I go up,â he said softly.
She chuckled. âI donât think Iâll find a better boss than you.â In the last few years that sheâd been a secretary, none of her former bosses had made her quite as comfortable.
âIâm honored. I donât think Iâll be able to find a secretary like you either.â
âThank you. Did you come to say goodbye?â
âYeah⦠I think this is the last time weâll see each other.â He scratched his head as he pulled a small frame out of his pocket. âThis is a gift.â
âOh, I donât remember us taking a picture⦠Huh? This isâ¦?â Her eyes widened as she saw its contents, and her hands started to tremble. âJ-Junho-nim, is thisâ¦â
âItâs real. It was made fresh this morning.â He smiled and nodded for her to take it.
The frame contained a plain piece of paper with a single sentence on it.
â May you find success in all that you do. From Specter.
It was plain and detached, but she squeezed it to her chest and bowed several times. âThank you so much! Really!â
It was a bit embarrassing to give his own autograph as a gift, but heâd wanted to give it to her nonetheless. How could he not when he knew how much she admired Specter?
âThank you for your hard work.â Thanks to her help, heâd been able to focus wholly on training and hunting. He chuckled and held out his hand.

I probably wonât ever see her again. She would remain on Earth while he went up to the 2nd Floor. It would be nice if she could continue to be his secretary, but it was impossible.
âSecretary Chaâno, Miss Cha Si-eun. Youâll do well no matter where you go.â
âYou too. Iâll be cheering you on.â
She watched him leave. If I get the chance, I want to be by your side as a teammate, not a secretary.
After all, Seo Junho was the second player that she respected most.
