The Queenâs Classroom (3)
âWhat do you think?â Seo Jun-ho asked expectantly. He had dark circles, but his eyes were bright.
ââ¦â¦â The Frost Queen inspected his sword carefully before nodding. Then she broke it.
âWh-what?! Why?! It was perfect!â He looked at her in disbelief.
âOh, the sword itself was good. I broke it because I was frustrated.â
ââ¦â¦â Why was she like this?
He sank to the floor, still shocked. The Frost Queen covered her mouth and giggled.
âYou did it, somehow. It simply tookâ¦Â Pfft, it took 152 tries.â
âI did my best.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âI am aware. But it took you 152 attempts to create a single sword. The world isnât fair.â She laughed as she completed her vengeance and checked the clock on the wall. âI will give you five hours to sleep.â
ââ¦Hoo, do I have to make spears later?â
âNo, there will be no more weapon-making training.â
Seo Jun-ho looked surprised. âThen what?â
âAs you so wish, I shall teach you how to best manage Frost.â
âIâm not complaining, but why all of a sudden?â
âI am fickle. Bear that in mind.â
âIs that something to brag aboutâ¦â Exhaustion overtook him as he spoke, and Seo Jun-ho fell over and started to snore. Heâd been making swords nonstop for two days, and the fatigue had caught up to him. The Frost Queen watched over him and muttered to herself.
âHe has innate talent and a terrifying work ethic⦠The world really is unfair.â She gestured with her finger, carefully covering his body with the sleeping bag.
ââ¦Become even stronger. So that you can protect those that are precious to you.â She said it from the heart, as someone who hadnât been able to do so. Unfitting for her usually-dignified appearance, there was a sad smile on her face.

Knock, knock.
Seo Jun-ho twitched under the drops of water that fell on his face.
â¦Itâs cold. Is the ceiling leaking? He wiped his face and slowly opened his eyes.
âOh, youâre awake?â The Frost Queen was hovering over him, melting a snowball.
Seo Jun-ho sensed her presence. ââ¦Iâm a player, so my senses are heightened. You could have just told me to wake up,â he muttered in annoyance.
âI am well aware. I simply wished to sprinkle water on your face.â
âReally, why are you like this?â Seo Jun-ho said disdainfully.
His back ached as he sat up. He turned, only to find the sleeping bag next to the wall.
âIf you saw that I was sleeping, you shouldâve brought me the sleeping bag.â
âOh my. I didnât know that we were so close.â
âNevermind.â Seo Jun-ho stood up and headed to the shower room to clean himself off. He changed into a fresh outfit, drank a bottle of water, and ate three pills for breakfast.
âSo whatâre you gonna teach me today?â
âSpeed.â
âSpeed?â She nodded.
With a flick of her wrist, a sword was created in the blink of an eye.
â0.28 seconds⦠I really have been weakened. Now, you make one.â He was much slower. â3.85 seconds. Do you know why there is such a difference between you and I?â
âIsnât it a matter of practice? I started barely three months ago, but youâve had your whole life.â
The Frost Queen shook her head. âThat is one factor, but the difference between our methods is a fundamental issue.â
âWhat is it, then?â
âSimple.â As she pointed her finger, an icicle slowly started to form. âThis is how you are using your ability. And thisâ¦â
Crackle. A new icicle was created instantly. Unlike the other one, it had started to form from both ends.
âIf you freeze it from different directions, it will naturally be faster.â
âAhâ¦!â Seo Jun-ho clapped his hands together. He didnât want to admit it, but she was a good teacher. The demonstration made it much easier to understand.
I see. When I freeze things, it goes in one direction.
When he made a sword, he started with the handle and finished on the blade. If he made an arrow, he started with the shaft and finished on the arrowhead. But if he made them at the same time, he would be much faster.
âNow that you understand, try it once.â
âLike this?â
Crackle! A sword was created in an instant.
â1.29 secondsâ¦â Compared to his 3.85 seconds from before, it was much faster.
âNot bad. Do not forget what I just taught you.â
âI should do some extra practice with this. Iâll be concerned with a lot of other things during battle.â He needed to train his muscle memory so that his body would react before his head. âSo, what else are you gonna teach me?â
ââ¦I will show this only once, so pay attention.â
The Frost Queen let out a soft breath. The human was absorbing her techniques like a sponge. She wondered how long it would be until she had nothing left to teach him.
It worried her a bit.

The secretaries were chatting after their lunch break.
âHaa, Iâm jealous of Ms. Si-eun these days.â
âMe? Why?â She asked, surprised. The other secretaries immediately answered.
âYour boss is player Seo Jun-ho.â
âHasnât he been doing really well recently?â
âYeah. Heâs also good-looking and well-mannered. Iâm so jealous.â
âI bet Jun-ho-nim doesnât call you after hours and make you run errands in the middle of the night.â
Cha Si-eun was flustered by the sudden slew of questions.â There are players who make you go out in the middle of the night?â
âWhat are you saying? Of course there are.â
âMost of them, in fact.â
âThey order you around for the smallest things.â
Cha Si-eun sipped on her iced coffee as she listened to their complaints. I see. I have it easy. She looked at them in a new light.
Of course, that wasnât exactly the case. They didnât know that Cha Si-eun answered over 1200 emails and 500 phone calls a day.
âI heard a rumor that heâs in the training room right now. How long is he going to stay in there?â
âI donât know. Itâs about time that he comes out.â
âHeâs so tenacious.â
âItâs because he works that hard that he is where he is right now.â
It had already been two weeks since Seo Jun-ho had entered the training room. Heâd told her that it would take that long, so she was expecting to see him today. And she was correct.
Ping.
Her Vita rang. Cha Si-eun checked the message and stood up abruptly.
âOh my god, heâs out.â
âWho? Player Seo Jun-ho?â
âYou should go.â
Cha Si-eun waved goodbye to the other secretaries and headed to the floor with restaurants. There was no need to look for Seo Jun-ho; she simply looked to where the people were staring.
âJun-ho-nim!â
âSlurp.â Heâd finished a bowl of ramen in the short amount of time it took her to get there. He waved. âItâs been a while, Secretary Cha.â
âYes, it really has. Butâ¦â As she saw him, she felt something that she couldnât describe. Somethingâs changed.
But she couldnât quite put her finger on what it was. There wasnât much of a physical difference, except for the fact that his hair had grown out a bit.
â¦Ah! She realized that the piercing look in his eyes had softened to become like any other personâs. Cha Si-eun immediately understood what it meant.
âCongratulations on your mastery.â
âThank you. You have keen eyes.â He mixed his bibimbap, looking embarrassed. âItâs not all that amazing,â he muttered.
âThey say that master fighters check their opponentsâ eyes first.â That was because most of them had a sharp look in their eyes. When Gong Juha had first met Seo Jun-ho, sheâd tried to scout him because of that. Even though other forces and energies were more easily masked, the eyes were hard to conceal.
Itâs a good thing that I learned. When he had been Specter, heâd perfected the concealment of his powers. But the reason his eyes were so bright now was because of the Frost skill. It was so powerful that it made it hard to conceal.
The Frost Queen was super helpful. That was old news by now. After heâd learned to properly handle the Frost element, he had reached another level of mastery. Even though his stats were the same as they were two weeks ago, he was at least 1.5 times stronger now. This was why players had to continue to train and fine-tune their skills.
âYou came at a good time. I was planning to book a plane ticket.â
âWhere to⦠Oh.â She realized in the middle of her sentence that it was pointless to ask. âTo the Tibetan region in China. Iâll book a flight for tomorrow morning.â
âThank you.â Seo Jun-ho smiled brightly. His secretary was quite skilled.
ââ¦â¦â Seo Jun-ho suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around. Mountaintops and plateaus filled his vision as far as the eye could see.
âThis is a beautiful place. I never thought the human world would be filled with this many peculiar castles.â Even the Frost Queen was impressed.
The Tibetan Plateaus, also called âthe Roof of the Worldâ, was a peculiar place that boasted an average elevation of 4,500 meters. It was a place where prophets had come to seek asceticism, as well as a popular tourist spot with millions of visitors every year.
And thirty years ago, it had become a sacred place for players.
âIs the Cave of Trials here?â
Seo Jun-ho nodded. âYeah, we just have to go a little bit further.â
âMake haste. I want to see it as soon as possible.â Seo Jun-ho let the Frost Queen pull at his hair and started to walk again. He arrived at the Cave of Trials three hours later.
The Caveâs entrance was inside a Tibetan tribeâs large tent, which measured thousands of square meters.
âWelcome, traveler. My name is Jampa, and I am the caretaker here.â
(TN: He refers to SJH as âasceticâ, but it doesnât translate well.)
He was wearing clothes typical of the Tibetan tribes and had his tongue stuck out in greeting. It was an unfamiliar and curious gesture, but it was a greeting unique to the Tibetans.
I was confused when I first saw it.
The same was true for the Frost Queen. She pulled at Seo Jun-hoâs hair, sounding confused.
âC-Contractor, that man stuck his tongue out at you. Why did he do that?â
âThank you for welcoming me. I see thatâs the traditional Tibetan greeting.â
âAh, so you know. The Association contacted me ahead of time. Let me show you to your room.â
âNo.â Seo Jun-ho held out his bag and shook his head. âPlease just put my luggage away.â
âAnd youâ¦?â
âIâll be going to the Cave right away.â
Heâd rested up on the plane and had warmed up his body on the hike up the mountain. His body was at its best condition right now.
âHo, I understand. I will escort you.â
Seo Jun-ho gave his bag to someone else and headed deeper into the tent. Unlike most tents, the walls were thick and didnât let in any wind, and it was large enough to hold hundreds of rooms.
âItâs slippery, so please watch your feet.â
They started down a staircase that led below. As they got deeper and deeper, the walls around them started to change into the walls of a cave. After descending for a long time, they reached a cool, empty cavern. The Gate stood in front of them.
âThis is the Cave of Trials.â
It looked exactly the same as the last time he had come. In fact, he felt nostalgic.
âGate information.â
âªCave of Trialsâ«
Entry Requirements: Levels 25â30
Party Cap: â
Clear Requirements: â
Difficulty: â
The Cave of Trials was known as the most peculiar Gate that had shown up in the last thirty years. There were plenty of Uncleared Gates, but the Cave of Trials was unclearable by design. It also evaluated each player on its own terms.
[Cave of Trials Rankings]
1. Specter â 9th level
1. Rahmadat Khali â 9th level
1. Tenmei Mio â 9th level
â¦â¦
1. Wi Cheon-hak â 9th level
1. Shin Sung-hyun â 9th level
1. Kim Woo-joong â 9th level
â¦â¦
The ranking list was full of familiar names. His and his comradesâ were obviously up thereâso were the Nine Heavensâ.
I thought the record would be beaten after 25 years.
But he knew better than anyone. If you survived the horrors of the 9th level, it wasnât easy to move on to the 10th.
âWe donât know much about the Gate, so I donât have much to offer. Butâ¦â Jampa put his hands together. âMay the northeastern winds bless your days to come.â
âAnd may you stay unbending against fiercer winds.â
Jampa seemed happy when he returned his tribeâs greeting. Seo Jun-ho left him behind and entered the Cave. As soon as he entered, a message popped up.
