Teens littered the mansion, music could be heard blasting down the street, and red solo cups were in almost everybody's hands.
Everyone around me seemed to be having lots of fun, however this was so not my scene. The last party I'd been to was when I was 12 years old, and it was for a random classmate's birthdayâdon't get too excited, it was only because their mom had forced them to invite everyone in the class.
I averted my eyes from a couple that was doing a lot more than just kissing. With a sigh, I began to barge through the sea of teenagers.
"Daisy, there you are," Malcolm yelled over the noise, a wide smile on his face. "I was wondering where you went!"
His blond hair was messed up, and if I wasn't mistaken, he had a lipstick mark on his cheek.
"Yeah, I must've got lost in the crowd," I gestured towards the mass of drunk teens. "There's no way all of these kids go to Oakland High."
"Oh, they don't," Malcolm gave me a devilish grin. "A simple post on my Snapchat story was enough to get every teen in town here."
"Right," I said, unsurprised. "Anyways, I think I'm gonna head out."
"What? No, the party's barely even started!"
A dainty brunette, who I hadn't even noticed was behind Malcolm, began to tug on his arm.
"Baby, come back," she murmured, kissing his cheek.
"Duty calls," Malcolm gave me a boyish grin. "Just, wait hereâdon't move!"
He allowed the brunette to drag him along to God-knows-where. I softly laughed, not exactly surprised. After all, Malcolm was a good-looking dude with a flirtatious personality. He was such a player, but even though I loved him, I certainly wasn't going to wait while he had a quickie with a random girl at a party.
I was only able to make it one step away when Andre suddenly swerved in my vision.
"Daisy, I hate to say this, but you've gotta help me," he stressed.
"Me?" I quirked a brow.
"Yes, youâI've gotta do damage control. If my parents come back home and see this messâ"
"They're gonna murder you, aren't they."
"Forget murder, they're gonna ship my ass back to Africa!" Andre flailed his arms.
"Oh, would the two of you relax," Malcolm appeared out of thin air, causing me to jump.
"That was fast," I raised my eyebrows, surveying his appearance. His white t-shirt was on backwards, and his blond hair looked fluffier than usual.
Malcolm only cast me a coy grin before swinging his arms around the two of us and wheeling us towards the kitchen.
He began to pour a drink in two identical cups before passing one to me, and one to Andre.
"Here."
"Absolutely not," Andre crossed his arms. "Someone's gotta watch over my baby."
"Wow," Malcolm said. "You'd do that for me?"
"What? I don't give a damn about you! I was talking about the house."
I laughed at Malcolm's offended face. Nonetheless, he offered me a cup. "You want?"
I hesitantly weighed the options in my head. I could decline the drink, go home, and spend the rest of the night alone in bed, studying or reading or something of the sort. Or, I could let loose for just one night.
Without further ado, I grabbed the cup from Malcolm's hand and downed the drink in one go.
"Atta girl!" He proudly raised his hand for a high five.
I coughed as my throat burned, though returned the high five nonetheless.
"You're corrupting her," Andre shook his head in disapproval, his short dreads moving with him.
"Hey, Daisy is a strong, independent woman who is old enough to make her own choices."
"Hear hear," I nodded.
"You called her a child this morning," said Andre.
"Tomato tomato," Malcolm smiled. Much to Andre's dismay, we fist bumped.
I then decided to down the other cup. My face twisted into a grimace at the burning sensation in my throat. However, I had yet to feel any effects of the alcohol. While Malcolm and Andre were talking, I poured myself another cup. And another. And another.
"I kinda feel funny," I slurred after a few minutes, placing the cup down.
I attempted to walk out of the kitchen, though I ended up stumbling into a random group of guys. One of them, an average looking brunette boy, placed his hands on my shoulders.
"Get your hands off me," I barked at the brunette.
He raised his arms. "You're the one that bumped into me, bitch."
"What'd you just call me?"
I nearly pounced on him but was pulled away by Andre.
"Calm down," Andre shouted over the music, wheeling me away from the stranger.
"Don't tell me to calm down," I said angrily. "That guy put his hands on me and called me a bitch. You know, I'm sick and tired of people thinking they canâno way, I love this song!
Malcolm and Andre were flabbergasted by my sudden mood change. Before they could stop me, I began to run over to the beer pong table and jumped on top of it.
"What the hell!" a tall blond guy angrily shouted.
I flipped him off and slowly began to rotate my waist to the beat of the song, closing my eyes and fluffing my hair. Cheers and whistles erupted around me.
"She's hot as hell," a guy cheered to his friend. I opened my eyes to wink at him, and he blushed like crazy.
"Bitch, get off the table, we were in the middle of a game," the same blond from before yelled at me.
"Hey!" I jumped off the table, nearly falling over. However, I was able to steady myself and latched onto the collar of the giant blond boy, who began to whimper.
"What is it with you men calling women bitches," I snapped.
Just then, a panting Malcolm and Andre arrived to the scene. Andre pulled me off, while Malcolm straightened out the guy's shirt with a sheepish smile before following after us.
"Remind me to never let Daisy drink again," Malcolm groaned.
"Yeah, well, at least we know what kinda drunk she isâthe aggressive one."
"What? I'm perfectly sober," I hiccuped, nearly bumping into the wall.
"Yeah, and I'm Canadian," Malcolm joked.
Andre and I gave him blank looks.
"Get it?" Malcolm faltered. "B-Because I'm not actually Canadian, and Daisy's not actually sober..."
"We get it. It just wasn't funny," Andre said.
"Whatever," Malcolm sniffed. "Let's go outside, so this one can get some fresh air and sober up."
"Who, me?" I hiccuped. "But I'm fine."
I attempted to walk in a straight line but ended up falling over.
"See?" I giggled as I lay on the ground.
Sharing looks of exasperation, Malcolm and Andre slung my arms over their shoulders and began to lead me towards the backyard. I found it funny how people moved out of the way for them.
As we walked, a person next to us accidentally knocked over an expensive-looking vase. Andre's eyes nearly jumped out of his skull.
"Y'know, I'm curious," I slurred. "What do your parents do? I mean, I've never met someone who lives in a house this big."
"They're these hotshot lawyers who own their own law firm. They're always travelling abroad for business and stuff," Andre replied.
"No wonder you're so smart," I hiccupped. "All my mom does is drink beer and watch TV."
Andre and Malcolm laughed. I didn't have the heart to tell them I wasn't joking.
