Chapter Eleven
ð° A Promise To The Dead ð°
Avalon sat on a stool in the corner of her room as she painted on a canvas that sat on an easel. She glanced back when she heard a light knock before her door opened and Liam walked in. "What's up? Mason leave?" Avalon asked, setting down her paint brush and pallet before turning to her brother.
"Yeah... can I hang out in here for a while?" He asked making Avalon furrow her brows slightly as she glanced at the time. "It's almost eleven. You do remember we have a game tomorrow, right?" She asked and he nodded, "I know, I'm just not really tired and you normally stay up until you finish your painting." He said and she squinted slightly.
"What's wrong?" She asked and his eyes widened slightly, "Nothings wrong." He said quickly making her cock an eyebrow. "I don't need to be a Werewolf to know when you're lying. I'm the one who taught you how to lie. Spill." She said and he sighed softly, "Ever since the night at the hospital, fighting the Berserker on the roof, I've been seeing them everywhere. Like they're haunting me." He said and she nodded slightly.
"Sounds to me like you're scared of them. That's fine." Avalon said and he sighed as he walked over to her, "How am I supposed to be able to fight them if I'm too scared?" Liam asked and Avalon sighed softly as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"Think of it like this... You're scared? Good, just a reminder that you are still human. If you were fearless, you'd fight one of those things head on with no plan. And how would that end? With you dead. Having fear will help you hold back and think about what you should do and possible outcomes." Avalon explained and Liam nodded slowly, "I guess that makes sense." He said and she nodded.
"Everything I say makes sense." She said before looking at her painting while leaning her chin on Liam's shoulder, "Now tell me. What do you think is missing?" She asked and he tilted his head slightly. "Need more stars." He said and she squinted slight before nodded, "Good eye. There's not nearly enough stars." She said before patting his shoulder.
"Feel free to take my laptop and watch some movies. You can stay with me tonight if you really want to." Avalon said making him smile, "Thanks Ava." He said and she smiled at him. "Just doing my job as a big sister." She said before messing up his hair making him roll his eyes.

"Lydia! Avalon!" Malia said making them look over at her, "Look! I passed!" Malia said happily showing them her grades test making Avalon smile, "C-minus!"Â She said and Malia nodded.
"Lydia's notes are great when they're not written in code." Malia said and the second she said that Coach walked up and set a graded test down that had an F on it making her frown. "Disappointed, Malia- profoundly disappointed." He said making Malia sigh looking over at Avalon and Lydia, "I'll send you my notes." Lydia said.
Lydia turned back around and glanced up at the board that read "Networth at time if death" making her face fall slightly as they both started to get a bad feeling. "It's over. The computers are off. No more assassins. No more murders. No one's dying." Kira said when she noticed the look on Lydia's face.
"Not yet."

"Everything's fine. I got a text from him this morning, and he said he might be a little late." Stiles said as Avalon and Liam followed him into the locker room, "Well, how late is late? Is he always late? We're playing Davenford Prep again, and this time it's an actual game. He shouldn't be late!" Liam stressed and Coach turn to them.
"Who shouldn't be late?" He asked making the three if them look at him wide eyed and sighed. "Scott and Kira." Liam said and Avalon nodded, "They might be slightly late." She said as she took out her lip piercing and Coach looked at them weird.
"Slightly late is still late. What are they doing?" He asked and Stiles squint slightly, "They're doing something that's going to make them slightly late.." Stiles said slowly. "What could Scott and Kira be doing right now that's more important than playing in the first game?" Coach asked.
It was quite for a few seconds as Stiles and Avalon glanced at each other with raised eyebrows while Liam looked like an awkward little kid. "Oh Coach..." Stiles and Avalon said at the same time looking back at Coach.
A few minutes later the team was dressed and everyone was out on the field. "They're still not here." Liam said after glancing around making Avalon sigh softly as she sat down next to her brother, "Okay, what's really going on? Are you nervous about the full moon? It's not for another twenty-four hours." Stiles asked and Liam sighed and looked up at the moon.
"Liam, you're gonna be fine. Just try not to kill anyone on the field. And if it comes down to it, I'll knock you out so you can't, or at least I'll try." Avalon said shrugging making him look over at her, "You guys arent worried?" He asked and Stiles and Avalon looked at each other. "Okay, I'm mildly concerned. Mildly." Stiles said and Avalon cocked an eyebrow as he pulled out his phone to text Scott.
"We're gonna lose without him."
"No, we're not! We can be just as good without Scott, okay? I've been practicing. Let me tell you something, I'm getting good- really good." Stiles said and Avalon raised her eyebrows. "Yeah, for some reason something's telling me not to believe that." She said before putting her helmet on and running out to the field.
The hasn't even been going on for two minutes before Stiles started getting hit in the head with a ball and tripping over his own feet. About three Devenford Prep players trampled him making Avalon sigh and shake her head before running over to him.
"What was that about being good?" She asked and Stiles rolled his eyes, "I'm gonna call Scott." He said and she nodded. "Probably the best idea." She said and he ran off the field while she stayed back. A little while later Avalon managed to score a goal before a ref called a time out.
"All right. Neither of them are answering. I gotta go see what's going on." Stiles said as Avalon and Liam ran over to them. "You're leaving? What are you going to tell Coach?" Liam asked as Stiles started to grab his stuff. They looked over at Coach to see him start having a slight mental breakdown.
"I'd suggest just not telling him anything and just leaving." Avalon said and Stiles nodded in agreement before looking back at Liam, "Liam, you're gonna be okay. All right?" Stiles said patting Liam on the shoulder before he walked over to Stilinski and Malia and started explaining everything, "What me to stay here if he shows up?" Malia asked and Stiles and nodded before he and his dad left.
Malia glanced back at the field as the same time as Avalon glanced over at her. They stared at each other for a moment before Coach called out. "Dunbars! Get on the field!" He yelled making Avalon sigh before running out onto the field.
A while later Avalon crouched down in front of Brett by the ball. "Something's wrong with your brother." Brett said and Avalon signed, "Shit was going on outside of the deadpool that really fucked with him." She said and he nodded slightly as the ref crouched down.
The ref blew the whistle and Avalon quickly scooped up the ball, running past Brett. "Liam!" She yelled before tossing her brother the ball and he quickly took off towards the goal. "Come on, come on." Avalon mumbled as he ran past opposing players. All of the sudden Brett ran into Liam, shoving him to the ground making the ref blow the whistle while the crowd sighed.
"What the hell did you do that for?" Liam asked, taking off his helmet and looking up at Brett as Avalon ran up to them, "Because you're afraid! I can smell it on you from across the field." Brett said and Avalon sighed and raised her eyebrows. "Are you hurt?" She asked and Liam shook his head, "No." He said.
"Are you still alive?" Brett asked and Liam gave him a look, "Obviously." He said. "Then get up." Brett said before Avalon held out her hand to help Liam up as the ref walked over. "You good to play?" He asked and Liam nodded before the ref looked at Brett, "You planning on doing something like that again?" He asked.
"Only if I have to." Brett smirked before walking away, "Try that again and I'll beat your ass." Avalon called out and the ref pointed at her. "No threats." He said and she raised her hands up, "Just some friendly banter, that's all." She said before grabbing her brother's shoulder and pulling him away slightly.
"You seeing them again?" Avalon asked and he sighed and nodded, "Yeah and it's making me completely ruin the game." He said and she shook her head. "It's fine. It's not the end of the world if we lose a game or two but use this to remind you were you are. Right now you're a human teenager trying to win a lacrosse game, alright?" Avalon said and Liam nodded before putting his helmet on. She smiled at him and patted the side of his helmet.
"Avalon!" Someone called out making Avalon glance over to see Malia walk over to the sidelines. Avalon ran over to her before noticing Peter sitting on the bleachers making her furrow her brows. "What the hell is he doing here?" She asked and Malia shook her head slightly, "I don't know, he said he found my mother. I thought you were good at lacrosse." She said and Avalon nodded.
"I am good but for some reason Scott and Kira not being here has completely thrown off the team's mojo. And I'm worried about by brother so that makes it worse- Hold on, he found your mo-" Avalon rambled slightly before Malia grabbed her face and pulled her into a kiss. Avalon instantly kissed back and after a moment they pulled away and Malia smiled at her.
"Score a shot for me." She said and Avalon's eyes widened slightly as she nodded, "Yep. I can definitely do that..."
