Lorenzo's Perspective

Lorenzo De Luca was many things.

He was a man who ruled with silence and ruthlessness, his name whispered with fear and respect. He was a mafia boss—calculating, cold, and precise in everything he did. He never allowed emotions to interfere with his decisions, never let his personal desires cloud his judgment.

At least, that was how he had lived his life for years.

But Mia Carter...She was different.

Lorenzo had always been in control of everything—his empire, his people, his future. But when she came into his life, everything shifted. It started as a simple need to protect her, but it didn't stay that way for long. No, it became something far more complicated, far more dangerous than he had ever anticipated.

The moment he saw her in that alley, vulnerable and terrified, something inside him broke. He had been cold. He had seen women like her—weak, fragile, and easy to manipulate. But Mia... she was nothing like them. She was a woman of strength, of independence, and despite the circumstances, there was a fire in her that challenged him in ways he wasn't prepared for.

He had tried to keep his distance, to keep her at arm's length, but that had failed almost immediately. Her presence unsettled him, confused him in a way no one ever had. He thought he could control it. He thought he could control her.

But Mia wasn't someone you could control.

The first time he kissed her, he had told himself it was a mistake. That it would end there. But with every touch, every word between them, it became harder to pretend it didn't mean anything. She was seeping into his mind, into his soul. And for a man like Lorenzo, that was dangerous.

He wasn't the kind of man who needed love. He never had. His father had taught him the value of power, of survival. Love had no place in his world. It was a weakness, a liability. And yet, every time Mia looked at him with those wide, questioning eyes, he felt something he hadn't felt in years—longing.

A need to protect her, to keep her safe. But not just from the world around her. From him.

Because he wasn't sure if he could stay away.

Lorenzo's life was filled with darkness—business deals made in shadows, debts paid in blood. He wasn't a man who walked into the light. His reputation was built on fear, and he had worked tirelessly to ensure it stayed that way. But when Mia had asked him why he had brought her into his world, why he had allowed her to get so close, his answer had come without thought.

"I'm a selfish man."It was the truth.

He didn't want to let her go. He didn't want her to leave. He wanted her here—with him, wrapped in the twisted, dangerous world he had built for himself.

But even as he allowed himself to acknowledge it, a voice deep within him screamed that he was making a mistake. Mia didn't belong here. She didn't belong in his world. The mafia, the betrayals, the violence—it was no place for someone like her.

And yet, the longer she stayed, the harder it became to push her away. She was a constant presence in his thoughts, in his dreams. The way she challenged him, made him question everything he thought he knew about himself.

When he walked away from her at the restaurant, something inside him broke. It wasn't the first time he had left her alone, but this time felt different. The pull to her was stronger than ever, like an invisible thread tying them together, and each time he tried to sever it, it only seemed to pull him back.

And now, here he was, standing outside, watching the chaos unfold in front of him as his men handled a situation that could have easily escalated into something worse.

But his mind wasn't on the problem at hand. His thoughts kept drifting back to Mia.

He needed to stay focused. He needed to keep her away from this.

But how could he when every instinct inside him told him that letting her go would destroy him?

The truth was, Lorenzo didn't know how to protect Mia from himself.

He didn't know if he was capable of loving her, not in the way she deserved. But what terrified him more than anything else was the fact that he wanted to try.

And that was a risk he wasn't sure he was willing to take.

As he returned to the table, he saw Mia sitting there—waiting for him, as always. Her gaze was hard, questioning, but there was something else in her eyes now. Acceptance. She wasn't afraid of him. She was drawn to him.

And that terrified him."I'll come back."

He didn't know if she believed him. But for the first time in a long time, he believed it.

Lorenzo De Luca was walking straight into a fire.

And for the first time in his life, he wasn't sure if he was going to come out of it unscathed.
