Aman - Reshma, I will never get time for renovation. Itâs way easy for me to buy a new house than to renovate an old house. Isnât it? She took a deep breath and said, âYes, you are right.âAman - Okay, Reshma, really nice talking to you. You did the right thing by rejecting me because you clearly deserve a better guy than me! And I am really very very thankful to you for spending time with me and for giving me an honour of being friends with you. Reshma - Welcome. I said with a smile, âPlease let me know when you find your soulmate. I will love to congratulate you at that time.âReshma - Yeah, sure. Aman - Okay. Bye bye. Tata tata. Take care.Reshma - Okay. Bye. I hung up the phone. My mom was overhearing me while I was talking to her but she didnât listen to me very seriously as she knew she was going to ask me later on and so she did. My mom asked me, âYou were talking to Reshma. Right?âAman - Yes, mom.She became curious. She asked me, âWhat did she say? Is her answer no or yes?âI lowered my eyes and said in a low, no-confident voice, âHer answer is no.âShe said in a confident voice, âI knew it was going to happen.âAman - What?Mom - Yes, I knew it. Aman - But how? Mom - Do you remember when Reshmaâs grandfather asked me if I am refugee or not? I thought for a couple of seconds and then said, âHmmâ¦yeah, he asked you. But I didnât get why he asked you such a question? It was completely irrelevant.âMom - Stupid! It was completely relevant! Aman - How? Mom - We are refugees. Do you know what that means? Aman - What? Mom - My dear son, your grandfather and maternal grandfather used to live in Pakistan. They were very rich and had a hundred acres of land there. But when they had to flee to India because of political reasons, they had to leave all of their property in Pakistan. They started their lives in India from rupee zero again. Aman - Oh, itâs very tragic story. Mom - Again they had to work very hard to make their own homes in India. Once who were the landowners there in Pakistan became almost beggars like in India. They struggled for their lives for many years! And finally, they were able to make their own houses, but just their houses and nothing else. Aman - Oh, okay. Thatâs really tragic but how is it connected with Reshmaâs case? Mom - Stupid! I canât believe you havenât understood yet!Aman - Mom, I really didnât get it yet. Mom - When I replied to her grandfather that we are refugees, at once he came to know that we donât have enough property. We have just our house and nothing else. Thatâs why hearing just that, he lost interest in us and he said that he wanted to go to Gurudwara. Aman - Oh my gosh! I canât believe that! How clever the world is! Mom - My dear son, you are very small. You havenât seen the ways of the world yet. My hairs have turned white because of some good reasons. Aman - Hehe, you are really a wise woman mom. Mom - Stupid! I am your mother, not a woman. Aman - Hehe! Yes, you are the wisest mom on the earth! I hugged my mom and she started smiling. The Next DayI took a half day leave from school and reached my home at about 2 p.m. I had so many casual leaves left, I was feeling very tired, so I took a leave. Hehe. Well. thatâs the benefit of a government job. At about 3 p.m., my phone vibrated as it was on vibration mode. âWho could it be?â I picked up my mobile phone and it was the call from Reshma! I wondered, âReshma! She has already rejected me! Why is she calling me now?âI picked up her phone and she said in a very sweet tone, âHi Aman, how are you?â I replied back in the same sweet tone, âI am good. What about you?âReshma - Me also good. So, how was your day?I said in a normal tone, âMy day was good. But I am feeling a bit tired.âReshma - What happened? Why are you feeling tired? I thought, âIs it just a timepass call? What stupid questions she is asking from me!âAman - No specific reason. Sometimes, we feel so. There are days in a year when we feel low. Today is one of those days for me. Hehe. Reshma - Oh, I got it. Donât worry. It will pass soon. Perhaps, you may start feeling better after talking to me.Aman - Any good news for me? I guess there is something good that you want to tell me. I can smell it. Hehe. (Giggled)Reshma - Hehe. I guess your sixth sense has started working!Aman - It means there is really good news for me. I am getting eager to hear now. Reshma - Donât worry. I am going to tell you soon. Aman - Tell me soon, please. I am dying to hear it. Reshma - I just want to say sorry to you sorry. Aman - Sorry! Sorry for what? You didnât do anything bad with me yet. Reshma - No, I said something to you which was not good. Aman - What?Reshma - I said to you that you are egoistic but you are not. You are a very humble, down to the earth person. Aman - What are you saying? Reshma - Yes, itâs right that you are a very humble person. I realized it later on. Aman - But what made you say that? I thought, âHaha! I know what made you say that. I lied to you that I have thirty acres of land and now your mouth has started watering for me! Haha! Really the world is very greedy! My mom was absolutely correct!â(It will be so nice of you, if you leave at least a single word comment ðºâï¸ð¹ðºâï¸)
