Chapter 81: LXXIX

The vampire bit him hungrily, savouring his blood like it was his only meal. Yangyang didn't complain anymore every time a couple of sharp fangs pierced his skin.

At this point, he didn't even try to protect himself. He was all sprawled on the floor with the vampire above him, slowly draining his energy. He started feeling that dizziness that had become so familiar during the past days, his vision went blurry and he closed his eyes in defeat.

'You seem extra happy today, Lele.' Jisung commented as he saw the human exiting his room with a huge smile on his face.

Chenle just walked up to him while stretching and placed a peck on Jisung's lips before muttering a 'good morning'.

Jisung watched the human eat some cereal in the kitchen for breakfast, he looked so cute he thought he could definitely get used to seeing that every morning for the rest of his life.

'I'm happy because I know we will rescue Yangyang today. I know it. I've always felt he was the one taking care of me, so I'll take this as a way to return the favour.' He said as he munched on his food.

Jisung's phone sounded. It was a new notification. He looked at Chenle after reading it and smiled.

'Le, let's go!'

Chenle left the unfinished cereal on the counter and followed Jisung towards the exit after picking up a container with gasoline and some matches, ready to do as they had planned.

Yukhei was left alone, Taeyong, Doyoung and Jaehyun had left the house a while ago. He'd spied on them while they talked on the phone with 'Jeno' and found out they were going to a different hospital to buy some blood because the humans had found out about the hospital they used to go to.

After a few seconds of walking mindlessly around the living room he heard a sound. He turned around immediately to find out where the sound came from, but as he did a hand was placed on his mouth, covering it.

He tensed up, he didn't like that. However, he relaxed as he heard that voice.

'Shhh... It's me, don't worry. Is there any other vampire around?' Jisung said, whispering quietly to prevent anyone else from hearing.

Yukhei shook his head as a response and Jisung lowered his hand. Yukhei faced Jisung and saw Chenle next to him.

'Where is Yangyang?' Chenle asked, with a smile on his face.

However, the taller remained expressionless. He ignored Chenle's question and started walking away. Jisung grabbed his arm to stop him, but Yukhei shook him off and left the living room like they weren't there.

'Lucas? Is that you?' Chenle asked, his smile slowly fading away. Maybe he was wrong to assume Yukhei would be the one to greet them. He was disappointed, but he knew perfectly well Lucas despised Yangyang.

Jisung and Chenle looked at each  other. They both nodded and parted ways, each of them searching in a different direction.

Chenle opened all the doors, room by room, but they were all empty. There was no sign of life in them. The more doors he opened the more his anxiety rose. He didn't even bother closing the door, he just opened them and left them wide open, skipping to the next one. He'd started the search walking and by the end of the corridor he was practically running.

He kicked the last door of the corridor open and went inside the dark room. He switched on the lights as the room had no windows at all and as soon as he saw what was inside he stopped breathing.

'Yangyang...' He ran next to him and dropped himself on his knees, shaking Yangyang's arm. 'Yangyang, wake up. It's me, Chenle!' He shook him harder, but he got no response.

Chenle took Yangyang's hand, it was cold ice. He placed two fingers on his wrist, no pulse. He desperately put his head on the other's chest, no heartbeat.

Tears started to well in his eyes, but he tried to hold them in.

No way, no way, no way! He's not dead, he's not dead! He's alive, he's just sleeping, right?

'Yangyang!' He yelled in despair as he shook him by the shoulders. He took the cold corpse between his arms and hugged him tightly, finally letting the tears flow. 'Y-yangyang...' His voice cracked. He sobbed against Yangyang's shoulder. He wiped his own tears off Yangyang's face.

Even in that situation Yangyang looked ethereal. Despite the blurriness in his vision Chenle took a few seconds to appreciate the older's features. His skin was extremely pale, and his lips had no color at all. His eyes were closed, as if he was just sleeping.

An eternal sleep.

'Yangyang... You can't die... Not now! Yangyang, why couldn't you wait for a little longer? How dare you leave like that!' He screamed in pure agony.

'Chenle...' It was Jisung. The moment he'd heard Chenle calling Yangyang's name he knew there was something wrong. The sight broke his heart. Chenle was a sobbing mess as he held the corpse of who he considered his brother. Jisung approached him, compassion written all over his face.

'Leave...' Chenle whispered. However, Jisung didn't listen to him. 'Leave!' Chenle yelled at Jisung, so loud it almost hurt the vampire's eardrums.

Jisung obeyed like a puppy, leaving  Chenle alone in the room. He left the house and decided to wait for him patiently outside.

Minutes passed, and he still hadn't seen Chenle. He started getting worried, until his nose detected a faint smell.

Fire.

Something was burning inside the house. He wanted to go in so badly, but he was a vampire and was very sensitive to high temperatures. He started fidgeting in his place, anxiously biting his nails.

Chenle, Chenle. Please, come out. Please, be okay...

The fire spread quickly, he could already see the flames burning the house from inside. He then caught a glimpse of a certain human walking outside slowly, dragging his feet.

'Chenle!'

The human heard him, but instead of going in his direction he was heading somewhere else. He started running away from him.

Chenle wanted to run away. It was as if his life had lost all its meaning.

We should have come earlier. It's my fault. It's my fault Yangyang is dead. It's my fault.

He then felt a pair of arms hugging him from behind, stopping him from running. His legs gave up and he dropped on his knees, with Jisung holding onto him from behind.

'He... He's dead.' Chenle said, almost whispering.

Jisung didn't say anything. He just stayed there, holding Chenle tight.

'He didn't have to! He didn't have to die! Not him! N-not him...' His voice cracked as he yelled at no one in particular. He turned around and threw himself in Jisung's arms, not caring about the fact they were now on the street and the ground wasn't particularly clean. 'Why did he have to die? Why did Yangyang have to die, Sungie?' He said in between sobs, muffling his cries against Jisung's chest.

Jisung caressed his back in a soothing manner and placed a soft kiss on Chenle's cheek. And then another, and another. He didn't know how to comfort the older with words, so he tried his best to do it with actions.

As soon as he stopped crying, Chenle detached himself slightly from Jisung and looked at him in the eye. They stared at each other in silence for a while, both of them knowing what the other meant.

Seonghwa was worried sick. His son had left the house in the morning and it was getting dark already. He hadn't called nor texted him or his friends.

Jeno had called him before to ask him if Jisung was home, which he wasn't. They contacted all his friends, but none of them knew anything. Seonghwa checked his son's room, everything was in place. He checked the human's as well and he didn't see anything odd either.

He tried calling Jisung once again, only to hear a robotic voice telling him the phone he was calling was turned off. He called the human again and got no response either.

Chanyeol and Baekhyun drove to the places they knew Jisung used to go when he wanted to be alone. Jaemin, Jeno, Renjun and Donghyuck searched for them in every house they knew they could be in. Taeyong, Jaehyun and Doyoung were busy putting off the fire that had unexpectedly started in their house. Mark, Johnny and Jungwoo spent the night asking people if they'd seen someone who looked like Jisung or Chenle.

The search had no result. It was as if the two of them had disappeared. Jisung's friends and family were desperate to find him, although they didn't know if they should expect to find a vampire or a corpse.
