The cold night air blew against my face as I ran through the Perilous Forest. I had made sure no one saw me leave or followed me. Everywhere looked the same in these woods. I could barely tell where I was going. I didn't want her to be mad already. She would kill me. Well, she could at any time. Turns out that basically being forced into working with Taco meant she about had all control over me. Still, I didn't want another object to blow a hole through my face, so I hurried as fast as I could. Eventually, I saw a light in the distance. I slowed my pace and went towards it. I was back at Taco's "camp", a fire lighting up the dark forest. She sat next to an unconscious MePad, A small knife in her hand.
"You actually came. Wow."
"Well, I'm not fond of having my face caved in twice in one day."
"I saw that. I would've laughed if you weren't me."
"Well, I'm here. What do you want me to do?"
"For now, you aren't going to have any big assignments. Tonight, you're just going to get used to the masks."
Taco gestured to the small pile of masks near her bed. I saw the pieces of a broken mask next to her. Must have been the one that Knife punched in. I walked over to the pile and looked through it. There were masks f almost everyone. The only ones I couldn't find in there were Tissues, Soap, Knife, Pickle, YinYang, Paper, Bow, Marshmallow, Apple, and Dough.
"Go ahead and put one on. You'll be doing that a lot. But be sure to give them back. I went through a lot of trouble making these, and you've already broken one. So don't let that happen to any more." She got up and grabbed a log from a pile behind her. She looked as the unconscious MePad, and started to carve away at the log. Meanwhile, I was picking a mask to try. After a few seconds of thinking, I grabbed a jagged red one. Fan. I held it up to my face, and the transformation started. I shrunk down to his size, my body becoming paper and wood. Fan's memories entered my head. He had talked with Test Tube a lot. Then there was something...awkward about her entering my head. I did my best to not think about it. After a few seconds of confusion, I looked down. Sure enough, I was Fan now. It felt weird to be so light. I stretched my very slightly different limbs, which threw me off a little. Darn, he was really built weird. I walked around a little as I watched Taco carve a mask of MePad. I assumed that she was going to take a piece of his now cracked screen for the mask. Then that made me realize something. How do I take it off? Taco had about read my mind.
"Just pull down at your face. That gets it off easily."
I did what she said, and sure enough, the mask was off, and I was me again. Well, time to try another. I used a few different masks, experimenting with what I could do with them, and thinking of what I would have to do. As I wore a mask of Suitcase, I realized that my arms weren't gone. They were invisible. That would be useful. As I took off the mask and pit it back on the pile, I wondered something. I decided to ask her.
"Hey, how did you even know how to do this in the first place?"
"...Just some boring native ritual stuff that I found out here. Nothing much."
I wasn't sure if I could believe her, but I went with it for now. As I thought of what the stuff would look like, We heard something come from the mansion in the forest. The doors of it creaked, and could be heard miles away. Taco quickly snuffed out the fire and grabbed a large bag. She threw all the masks into it, including the unfinished one of MePad. She grabbed my arm, and then the real MePad. She pressed a few buttons on him, and we disappeared in a small flash of purple. We reappeared in a different area of the forest, one further away from the mansion, but closer to the hotel. I checked the time on my phone. 10:06 PM.
"Great. Now I'm locked out for the night."
"Don't blame me, you decided to come out here."
"Well, I wouldn't rather have a bullet in me."
"Fair enough. Now get some rest. I'll keep watch."
"Don't you need to sleep too?"
"I'm fine. Sleeping only gives them a bigger chance of finding me."
Wow, Taco was in a horrible state. I had no idea what it was like to be her. Well, I did for a while. When I was her.
I drifted off to sleep, hoping that sleeping outside wouldn't be rough.
"Hey, one more thing." Taco said to me.
"Don't be wearing those things for too long. You're gonna lose yourself in them. Like, forget who you really are. I don't feel like making a copy of one of those imbiciles and losing a new accomplice at the same time."
I nodded, too sleepy to talk. As tiredness took over, I couldn't help but think of what would happen if I forgot myself. I would end up as a perfect twin of someone else, and make everyone worry about how Trophy had gone missing. I mean, that would hurt, but I wouldn't be there to know that. I would be someone else. Be someone else.
Be Someone Else.
Be. Someone. Else.
