Chapter 773 Just A Wall Away Julia held her chin with the thick of her palm. âI got bored of takeout, ugh! Sure, my grandfather hired a cook, but I bet she wishes she could be as good as you are.
Thereâs no joy in eating what she makes! She still has her job because my grandfather explicitly forbids me from firing people out of my preferences!â
Then, suddenly, her eyes glinted. She cast a very meaningful stare in Deirdreâs direction. âWait a sec.
Why donât⦠you become our new cook!? Name your price! I bet itâll pay you way more than being my piano teacher.â
The prospect quite tempted Deirdre, but she remembered her pregnancy and dismissed the idea with a smile, iâll pass.â âYouâll pass? Oh, h*ll no. Are you just holding a grudge against me for being a little bit nasty to you when we first started?
Huh! Who knew you could be this grudgeful, huh? Okay, I formally apologize for being a brat and a pain in your *ss! I promise I wonât ever say something nasty to you again!â she declared.
âBut if thatâs not enough for you, then go ahead and give me an earful. I can take it!â
âThatâs a little extreme.â Deirdre tittered, amused.
âItâs not because I donât like you, Julia. Itâs because of some personal reasons. Once Iâve settled down, though, I might consider it.â
âOhâ Julia suddenly drawled.
âI get it. Itâs because of your boyfriend!â
Deirdre was stunned. âWhat boyfriend?â âSave me the act,â Julia said, smiling coyly. âI saw it with my own eyes, lady. That guy who came to get you home on a bike. He is quite the looker if I do say so myself.â
Deirdre had not expected Julia to be interested in these sorts of things.
Laughing, she denied, âNope, youâre overthinking it. Heâs just a friend.â âJust a friend, she said! Answer me this, are you guys living together?â
Deirdre nodded hesitantly.
Julia clapped her hand in satisfaction. âI rest my case.â
Realizing she could not explain her way out, Deirdre decided to drop the subject entirely. âAlright, we should get going with our lesson.â
They headed upstairs to the piano room. It had not even been half an hour when they suddenly heard a commotion from outside. Pleasantly surprised, Julia cried, âItâs my grandfather!â
âProfessor Ward?â Deirdre asked aloud.
âIsnât he supposed to be giving a lecture at Surstate University lately?â
âNot today!â Julia snickered.
âA friend is coming over.â
âA friend?â âMaybe youâll know him since youâre also from Neve. Or maybe you donât. My grandfatherâs friend is the CEO of the Brighthall Group and the most famous man in the entire business circle, Brendan Brighthall! Heâs one of my grandfatherâs students!â
Even as the girl was bragging about her acquaintance, there was a hint of genuine excitement. âIâve seen him once when I was, like, ? Oh my God, heâs so hot! I didnât even think he would come to Surstate just to let me admire his ungodly hotness again! Too bad you, you know, canât really see him.
Iâd love to show you what âperfectionâ really means!â
The more Julia talked, the more excited she became. Inversely, Deirdre felt her blood chilled as though it was turning into ice.
Then, just outside, she heard a voice she could never forget.
âYou didnât have to delay your talk just to greet me, sir. Iâm only here because Iâm in the area.â
That even, stoic voice-that was unmistakably Brendanâs!
Deirdreâs face turned as white as a sheet. Why? How could this be!?
The only thing keeping her and Brendan apart was a door!
Deirdre was shaking so much her fingers fell onto the keys, and the piano cackled.
The sound attracted Brendannâs attention. He turned to the door as Professor Ward explained with a chuckle, âOh, excuse US for that. My granddaughterâs learning piano.â
âOh.â Brendan retracted his attention and sat on the couch. âJulia, right? Wasnât she learning to paint the last time I saw her? When she was I think. Why switch to piano now?â
