HERNANDEZ
I watch Loren put on her eye liner for the sixth time we've been out here sitting down. Before the short break, which mind you we did nothing, we sat inside but now we're sitting outside, under a tree on two tree stumps because fake Sabrina feels there's no ventilation inside the tutoring hall.
Well in her defense it's kinda breezy out here and the tree shade's are okay.
"Don't you get hot in those sleeves?", she finally asks, looking away from her mirror to me.
"No", I simply answer as I cross my arms.
"Why are you bald?", she goes on, "Leukemia?",
"Or hair loss just runs in the family?",
"Neither", I answer with a sigh. Then lean forward placing my hands on the big tree chunk in-between us.
"Look, are we just gonna stay out here and-
"Hey Mona", she cuts me off, welcoming our uninvited guest.
"It's Priscy.. omg Noah called me that yesterday", Priscilla says and Loren takes interest but with a sour look on her face.
"Won't be surprised, he's been giving out nicknames.. ugh", she spits out with disgust and I have a wild guess on who crossed her mind.
Priscilla takes notice of me as I lean back on the tree, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Hey, aren't you that cool biker guy?", she asks, squinting her eyes like she was trying to recall my face.
"Yeah I ride a bike", I say.
"Oh with the rich name?",
"Mm.. I don't know about that", I shrug. I don't know why everyone thinks it sounds rich. I had that name when we barely had what to eat.
"Tell me, are you rich?", Priscilla asks, coming to sit on the log that separated Loren and I. "Maybe you might know my dad",
"Mona not every rich person knows your dad and I doubt he would", Loren says and I'm glad I can't see her expression due to Priscilla blocking my view.
"Hmm..", she trails, giving me a stare down, "You don't look.. wow is that a piercing?", she asks, cutting herself off mid sentence.
I blink at her, not giving her a reaction. She smiles, blushing actually so I tilt my head gazing at her confusedly.
"Oh four eyes", Loren says so I move a bit to see who she's referring to. "You've concluded already",
"I have", my eyes widen when I see Callie wrapped in a blue cotton jacket. She was unaware of me sitting close by.
"And what decision did you make?", Priscilla asks, moving away so Callie's eyes instantly locates mine, widening at the sight of me. Almost like she got caught by her dad at a strip club.
I decide to stay silent watching her stutter nervously.
"Uh..", she trails, swallowing hard, "I.. I.. I have to go", she manages to say, turning around to speedily walk away. Oh.. kay, that was pretty weird. Why was she so nervous just now? and what decision did she have to make? Something's going on here and I'm gonna find out.
"What was that?", Priscilla laughs, snorting in the process. She immediately stops, covering her mouth with both hands as she stares at me wide eyed.
I involuntarily smile, trying to cover it up with a small yawn as I pretend to be interested in other things.
"What's this?", she asks noticing an ink mark seeping out of my sleeve. She pulls my arm to her causing me to lunge forward. I avoid placing my hand on her thighs, quickly going for the log next to where she sat.
She pushes my sleeve up and surprise washes over her as she stares at my tattoos. "How many are there?", she asks, rolling it up to my elbow.
I pull my arm back then push my sleeve back down. I look at her weirdly. Why would a girl be that.. bold? I thought they were usually shy. Maybe I've been with Abby and Callie for too long.
I look up to see Loren, staring at me as well. I clear my throat in desperate need of something to do.
"Um.. since we haven't done anything since you came.. I guess.. well I'll be on my way", I hurriedly say, picking up my bag.
"Whatever", Loren says quite disinterested.
"Oh..kay", I stretch, walking away.
"Hey", Priscilla calls so I turn around. "You forgot to tell me your name", she says. Forgot? Who ever said I wanted to.
"Hernandez",
"Priscilla",
"What are you doing?", I hear Loren ask as I start to walk away again.
"What? He's cute".
**
"Yo, Priscilla looked so hot today", Blake says and some other guys agree.
"Nah Loren looked way hotter", Shelton says and Blake punches his shoulder. He falls dramatically to the floor whining in pain.
"Hey guys", Bryan gets everyone's attention as he walks up to my bed, putting a hand on my shoulder. "While we were having mad tutor sessions guess who was having the hottest girls",
"No way", Shelton gasps as they all focus on me.
I disagree, shaking my head and waving my hands, "What? No",
"He got all touchy with Priscilla today. I saw it", Bryan says and I wonder if he's gonna get an accolade for being a tattletale.
Blake rushes to me, grabbing a hold of my shirt. "Trying to take my woman",
"Your what?", I ask, confusedly.
"Everyone knows she's Asher's girl", Bryan says and Blake goes for him instead.
"They're just fuck bodies", Steve clarifies from his bed, moving his bag of chips away from his twin brother.
"What did you guys talk about? and how did you get her to talk to you?", Shelton asks, looking eager. When did he get up?.
I shrug, "Just wanted to look at my tattoos",
"I knew it", Blake yells, catching everyone off guard. Most especially Steve, who jerks a bit causing a few chips to fly out of the bag. Donald steals them as they land on the bed.
"I should have gotten tats a long time ago", he says then turns to me, "Who's your artist?",
My tattoo artist lives way back at Columbia. I haven't gotten any new tattoos since I got here.
"Some guy", I say and the bell for dinner rings. Everyone's attention deviates from me and I let out a sigh of relief. Was honestly getting out of words to say.
I take out my jacket and head out. I text Abby, asking what she'd like to eat. Just as I'm about to text Callie, Priscilla pops up in my face.
I move backwards due to the closeness of our faces. Her pointed nose was almost touching mine.
"Where you going?", she asks with arms behind her back. She has a new outfit on now, wearing a draft pattern mini skirt and purple bralette with boots on her feet.
"Uh..", I trail, noticing Noah walking away from his friend and back to the cabins.
Priscilla comes over to the direction I'm looking at, blocking my view. I move backwards again. Why is she so pesky?.
"Why's that important to you?", I ask, shoving my hands into my pocket as I continue my walk.
"Oh my God", she exclaims loudly so I turn to her, her eyes were on the friend Noah left. He was coming this way.
"I don't want Asher to see me", she says and I wonder how it's my problem. I'm about to start walking again when she grabs my hand and pulls me along with her.
"What the..", I trail, unable to even speak.
She stops when she gets to the parking lot. "Why the heck did you pull me along?", I ask.
"We were together",
"When?", I wonder out loud.
"C'mon, I haven't gotten into a bike before", she says walking ahead of me. I look at her with a crazy expression on my face. What the heck is going on?.
"What'd you mean? We're not going anywhere", I say, walking over to my bike. I had brought it here some time after we came up here on foot.
"Why not?", she asks as she picks up my helmet and before I can say Virgin of Guadalupe she puts it on. Who is this girl?.
I sigh, "Take off the helmet, I'm not going anywhere with you",
Her face melts into a frown with a mixture of hurt as she slowly unclips the helmet.
"Sorry", I instantly apologize, feeling bad, "But I don't.. know you",
"Well hop on, we can get to know each other on the way", she smiles and I snicker. What a crazy chic.
