The sun was like a spotlight shining on the welcome sign with red paint coating the words. Kinda like a scary movie.. I mean, aren't there other welcoming colours?.
We walk into the camp and while we look like the Israelites in the reign of Absalom, the popular clique look just fine snacking by their cars.
Noah makes eye contact with me as I huff and puff around and the corner of his lips curve up into a smirk. He did not!.
"Okay campers-", A man starts to say but one of the teachers stop to correct him, "Oh okay.. uh welcome students to study camp", he says.
He smiles and I think it catches some girls off guard. He looks super young with his auburn hair gelled back neatly and a very pronounced Adam's apple bobbing up and down everytime he swallows and if I may so add his striking moustache above his pink lips that mind you.. he just licked.
I fear that those charming hazel eye's are gonna be a problem.
On the other hand, we have another male camp counselor standing right beside his opposite in looks and every other decent features. With a short brown hair and dim blue eyes supported by a pair of thick rimmed glasses and a large airway. I'm actually scared for the handsome fella by his side, isn't he having trouble breathing?. That guy's nose seems like it can suck in 20% of oxygen.
"I'm camp counselor Trevor", says the handsome fella.
"And I'm camp counselor Douglas", says the oxygen collector with a Texas accent.
"And as you all know I'm Mrs Hart", everyone groans at that which erupts a gasp from her. At least she's not teaching algebra here.
"And Mr Walker here", I stiffen at the name. I hope he's forgotten about our little detention chase.
"So it's says that there are 75 students here", Mr Walker starts, tucking his polo shirt under his khaki pants. He lifts his clip board in hand to see the content clearly.
"50 students and 25 tutors. So that means two students each to one tutor", he further explains.
"I have the names of all the tutors right here so to make the job easier, if you're one of them separate yourselves from the others",
And so the sheep separate themselves from the goats. Okay calling us goats gives a good edge to it.
"I guess this is where we depart", Callie says and Hernandez hands her her luggage.
"Yeah", he says, fist bumping her and I've got a feeling it's gonna take a while for him to see her as more than a friend.
"See ya later calliegator", I say and she gives me a weird look while Hernandez whispers 'good one' in my ear.
"What are you? My dad?", she asks as she leaves to the left hand side of the camp ground with the other tutors.
"Okay I'll call out your names and you'll signify", Mr Walker says as he brings out a pen.
"Susan Shapiro",
Susan's always been smart. She's actually the smartest in our year. People called her golden locks due to her golden colored hair. She had natural pale skin with tons of freckles. When I see her, I don't feel the least bit bothered about mine.
"Here",
"Collin McCoy",
Collin was the leader of our schools math club. He brought us first place thrice in different national math competitions. He was that one nerd you could never pick on, he's smart, funny and gets along with most of the other cliques. And also he's a mega mind in chess.
"Here",
"Adam Tessitore",
Well, we all know who that is. For some reason he thinks he's the best but in actuality he can't even beat his sister.
"I am present of course",
"Niggas gay", Tyrese loudly says from our side of the crowd and people laugh. Adam scowls at the crowd.
"Anna Tessitore.. keep it down", Mr Walker says, warning us.
"Here sir",
As Mr Walker continues the row call I look around the crowd of tutors and I have my jaws on the ground when I see Asher smirking at Priscilla. How the heck is he there?.
"That blonde bitch is a tutor?", Hernandez asks and I look ahead to see Loren standing on the other side with the rest of the tutors. What in Neptune's trousers is going on here?.
"How the.. what the.. this is what happens when you don't pass Abby", I conclude tiredly, throwing my hands up the air.
"Tell me about it.. I doubt she's half as smart as you", he says and I can't even disagree with that. Loren's an average student, why would they pick her as a tutor and then put me here just because I failed a non educational subject. That's dumb.
I'm sure she had her way as usual. Freaking rigged camp.
My phone buzzes in my jacket pocket so I dip my hand into them fishing it out. Noah's name pops up on my screen with a message.
Come get your luggage.
I scoff as I stretch a bit to search for him in the crowd. It's not a hard task because he's tall so I quickly catch his brown hair from where I stood.
I text back.
Can't you hold onto it a bit longer.
He replies immediately
No.
And it's the period at the end that pisses me off. Sassy much.
"Hey, I'll be right back", I tell Hernandez and he nods.
"Sure",
I move through the crowd with a few sorrys and excuse mes before reaching Noah.
"Hey..", I say and I'm confused when I don't see my luggage. "Where's my stuff?", I ask.
"You think I'd call you here for you to actually come take ur bag. Am I that much of a villain to you?", he questions and I shrug.
He sighs pushing his hair back.
"Then why'd you call me here?",
"To come stand with me", he says and with one pull, I'm wrapped around his arms with my back against his chest.
"What are you doing?", I ask with wide eyes. Does he not realize where we are right now?.
"Making sure you take your rightful position as my princess",
"Position?",
"Right here.. by my side",
"I'm not exactly by your side..",
"Same difference", he cuts me off.
"People are staring", I say struggling to get out of his hold but his arms around me only tightens.
"Shh, you talk too much", he presses his lips to me ear and I giggle at the tickling sensation but then pull myself together cause I can feel glares burning my forehead.
"Can we not do this right now?",
"When else do you want us to?", he asks, looking down at me with a smirk.
"When you apologize to Hernandez", I say and he rolls his eyes.
"Why'd you think I'm always in the wrong?", he says with a sad face. "I'm not the one who ignored someone",
I sigh, "I told you, your friends don't like me",
"Yo captain", Tyrese calls out but pauses when he sees me under wraps.
"Say hi to my lady", Noah says and Tyrese looks at me so my cheeks flare up in shame.
He smirks, "Hi, Tyrese",
"Uh Abby", I shyly say.
"What you in for?",
"Why'd you make it sound like we're in jail?", I ask and they laugh.
"In my opinion it's kinda like it", he shrugs.
"Um..", I trail, it's a bit embarrassing to say I'm at a study camp just because I failed P.E.
"Hey what's Asher doing over there?", Noah asks, saving me from the question. I let out a low sigh of relief.
"Yeah he's dumb as fuck", Tyrese says and I can strongly agree to that. There's not a thing I taught him that got into his head.
"Asher's a P.E tutor", Don says, popping out of nowhere.
"Someone failed P.E?", Tyrese asks in shock and I sink into Noah's body. It's not exactly someone. I mean, Mr Walker did say it's two students to a tutor right so probably there's someone else in my shoes.
Crossed fingers there is.
"You failed three subjects and that's not worse?", Noah points out.
"Chill man, no need to rat me out like that", Tyrese awkwardly says, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Wait, Asher's a P.E tutor?", I ask with worry as I look up at Noah and his eyes widen.
"Fuck, I messed up", he curses under his breath. Messed up? What does he mean?.
And why those this camp keep getting worse. I sink further into Noah and he holds me closer, squeezing my arm reassuringly.
"I promise I'll always be here", he whispers into my ear then kisses the top of my head.
"Now that we've identified all the tutors, the rest students which consist of 20 girls and 30 boys will be directed by the camp counselors", Mr Walker grabs everyone's attention.
"As for the tutors they will be given different cabins and a tutor badge so that we all will be able to identify without difficulty. And also.. well that's all for now Mr Douglas can take over",
"Okay camp- uh students", he corrects himself mid sentence. "Let's all pick up our things and go settle down in our cabins",
"I'll grab your luggage, go on", Noah tells me so I nod. After realizing that Asher's my tutor I don't think I'll be in a good mood for.. maybe till the end of the program.
Douglas and Trevor lead the way with the help of Adam making sure everyone moves orderly. We make a stop when we get to the cabins.
There are Five cabins on each sides of the camp ground. The ones on the left side look old and shabby but the ones on the right look just fine. You don't even need to tell me which one we're gonna end up in.
"Now the tutors and counselors, will be staying over there", he says, pointing at the right side and I wish I had place a bet.
"While the rest of the students will be residing over there", Trevor says, pointing at the shabby looking cabins.
"Why does ours look like some old retirement home?", a girl asks, disgust laced with her tone and some people mumble in agreement.
"Well next time you'll get a better grade", Mr Walker says and it's like salt to our wounds as people groan to themselves.
"Wow", Trevor says a bit shocked. "First two cabins are for the boys, in case a bear comes you guys can protect the girls",
"Wait what?", Don asks in fear and Trevor chuckles.
"Just kidding but be alert though", he says with his face going serious at the end. Okay what's up with this guy?.
"What's with this guy?", Hernandez asks popping up beside me. Exactly what I wondered.
"Okay everyone, you all have about..", he trails looking down at his watch, "An hour to get settled so be quick with it", he says and there's more groaning.
"I'd hurry up if I were you, the top beds are horrible", He says and everyone starts running to the cabins. Bunk beds?!.
He chuckles nudging Douglas to laugh along but he only gets an awkward smile.
"Ugh", I groan knowing I'm gonna get the bad bed. I look at my side to see Hernandez still standing next to me, "You're gonna get the top bed", I tell him.
"Don't really mind but you should, c'mon.. what you waiting for", he urges so I frown running off to the cabin.
Noah
I bang my head against my car window. Fuck Noah, why does everything go wrong with her?. I keep messing up.
I would've been the best candidate to tutor her but no, I intentionally flopped my AP government exam and now we won't be as close as I'd want us to be.
"Fuck", I curse out loud. If that scumbag dares to belittle her, I swear to every supernatural being I will fuck him up. That buzz head's here too and that's a problem, not to mention Loren.
Why the hell is she even here? She's an average student like me and I certainly can't be a tutor. Ugh, everything's going the opposite of what I planned.
I take out Abby's luggage from the trunk before walking to the cabin location. When I get there everyone's already gone but not that buzz head kid.
I walk up to him. A little chat won't hurt.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
Hey guys, I would like to make something clear due to a comment I saw today.
Abby's weight isn't genetic, she's plus size because she ate too much and her dad leaving increased her intake. If she was born plus size, she wouldn't like food as much as she does. If you are struggling with weight loss you'd understand.
Also I didn't get in the shortlist but I still want to take you all for the support. Thank you guys so much, much loveâ¤ï¸
Don't forget to leave a like and comment.ð
