Chapter 292 Leo Makes a Wish Amelie finally caught on. She was visibly taken aback. âThey announced that theyâre in a relationship?â
All along, Chester had been giving off hints and obvious signs of his interest, but it appeared as if Giada was simply using him as she never acknowledged his feelings.
What does this mean?
Meanwhile, Chester was asking affectionately, âAre you happy, Giada?â
âYeah,â Giada replied in a shaky voice.
âLook! Giada has become so emotional.â Lilith and the others misunderstood Giada. They began clapping again.
Many of the visitors here knew about the program âShow Your Loveâ, so when they heard that a celebrity couple was announcing their relationship, they whipped their phones out to take a picture.
Fionaâs expression slowly morphed into a grim frown. âChesterâs an incorrigible playboy. He has done a lot of unthinkable things behind the scenes and his management company has long since decided to let him go. Theyâre only doing their best to keep things under wraps for him because they donât want to affect this program. Once the program ends, they wonât be helping him anymore. Isnât Giada just screwing herself over by going public with him now?â
Over the years, Fiona had finessed her way into quite a lot of resources for her career and was acquainted with many of the industry bigwigs, so she heard about these things a long time ago.
âDo you think she might not know about it?â Amelie pondered as she was a little fuzzy about what was happening too.
âGiada has entertained her fair share of bigwigs over the last few years,â Fiona scoffed. âThereâs no way she had no idea about this. Iâm guessing she hit a brick wall this time. Maybe some bigshotâs wife found out about her skanky ways and wanted to punish her.â
âThatâs why people say itâs wise to know your place. Thereâs no winning in a losing battle,â Fiona added knowingly.
Amelie couldnât be bothered to dissect the situation any further.
As it was, she had been meaning to teach Giada a lesson. Now that someone else had done it for her, it saved her the trouble.
âChesterâs secrets are no laughing matter. The best outcome for Giada would be to disappear from the industry,â Fiona muttered. âShe would probably have to pay up a lot of money because of this. All her years of earnings would have to be poured into this sinkhole.â
All of a sudden, a thought flashed across Fionaâs mind and she turned to Amelie. âHey. Does this have anything to do with you?â
She thought that it was Amelieâs undoing.
Amelie shook her head with a blank look on her face.
She promised that she wouldnât do anything to Giada now, so she hadnât.
âWho else could it be then?â Fiona was extremely curious.
On the other hand, Amelie wasnât all that interested to know.
To her, Giada was simply leaving the entertainment industry a little sooner.
All this while, Blake was standing in front of Amelie. He looked princely in his white attire.
At this moment, his clean-cut face was not as calm as it usually was as his alabaster skin was masked by a dark expression. Concern was etched into his brows.
He heard the conversation between the two women.
Amelie didnât know who made the move against Giada, but he knew.
Amelie didnât know who made the move against Giada, but he knew.
Blakeâs eyes flickered over to Leo.
Leoâs gaze was perfectly neutral. He was standing neither too far nor too near and seemed to be ignorant of everything that was happening over here.
Just as always. Itâs as if he had nothing to do with this cruel situation. Imperceptibly shrewd.
Blakeâs concern intensified as he turned his eyes back on Amelie.
âWe havenât seen Amaro, the Love Immortal yet. Come with me.â
Amelie had been engrossed in a discussion with Fiona over how they were going to sneak off to the food street when she felt someone grabbing her wrist.
She was startled by the manâs tight grip, and she saw Fionaâs stunned expression.
Amelie turned around and saw the man who grabbed her.
It was Leo.
He was looking at her as if he hadnât done anything out of the ordinary.
It was as if he didnât notice the blatant shock in her expression.
Leo didnât even give Amelie a chance to reject him and dragged her off just like that.
He openly pulled her through the crowd.
Amelie was on the verge of a breakdown.
âOh, my goodness! Itâs Foxy! Foxy and Mr. Alston!â
The ones who watched their program began exclaiming in excitement.
Some of them quickly fished out their phones to take photos.
Amelie was dumbstruck.
She could already see the headlines that would be trending tomorrow. It would include a photo of her and Leo holding hands.
Who knows what would they write?
She didnât want that to happen!
Alas, Leo didnât give her the chance to withdraw her hand. He yanked her all the way into the hall where the statue of Amaro was.
Inside the grand hall, Amaro was perched on a flower and smiling widely.
Amelie couldnât smile at all.
âHave you gone mad?â
Leo released her hand and she massaged her wrist as she took several steps away from him.
She stared at him as if she was looking at a strange creature.
Leo bent down and bowed to the statue of Amaro.
Amelie was speechless.
She was frozen in her spot as she silently watched Leoâs every move.
He was making a wish to Amaro with utmost sincerity.
Everything from his posture to his attitude made it clear that he was being very respectful.
Even his bow was deep.
In all of Amelieâs memories, Leo had always been someone who scoffed at the idea of mythological figures and would express his disdain when people mentioned these kinds of superstitious beliefs.
He trusted no one but himself.
Yet, what now? Whatâs he doing now? Paying his respects to Amaro?
Tons of people are interested in him. Why would he need to make a wish to Amaro, the Love Immortal?
Amelie was beginning to find Leo even more and more mind-boggling.
Leo bowed three times and made his wish before he stood up. When he turned around and saw Amelie staring unblinkingly at him, his stern expression softened.
He smiled.
Heâs⦠smiling again?
Amelie felt chills when she saw Leo smile. It was almost as if she felt a surge of horror.
âWhat on earth do you want?â Even her voice sounded so unlike her.
Leo was staring at her with gentle, determined eyes. âTen years ago, were you the one who accompanied me the whole time at Quinn Town?â
Amelie was stunned into silence.
As soon as she heard the question, all the color drained from her face.
Thankfully, it was hidden behind a mask.
âWhat about it?â Amelie pretended to be calm as she didnât know why he brought this up again.
âWhy didnât you ever tell me anything?â
âWhy?â The question led to Amelieâs awkwardness being replaced by scorn. She sneered mockingly.
She had gone through all that effort and risked everything, including her life, to get to him. Yet, he had another woman with him.
How was I supposed to tell him?
After a while, Amelie finally retorted coldly, âAre you confronting me right now?â
Her expression was as hard as ice.
Cold air emanated from every part of her, even her fingertips.
What gives him the right to ask me this question?
âNo. I just want to know the truth.â Leo had picked up on her sarcasm, but he answered her question seriously.
Amelie sneered again.
Heâs incredible. Iâve finally managed to move on from my feelings for him, and yet he decides to bring up the past now.
Doesnât he know that these memories are all agonizing, heart-wrenching scars for me?
âElyse was the only person in your heart, so what would I be if I told you that I was the one who saved you? Was I supposed to use this information to beg for your love? Or was I supposed to force you to repay me with your love?â
Even though Amelie tried her best to keep her cool, her voice betrayed her. It was clear just how emotional she was.
She wasnât a saint. She couldnât act as if it was all water under the bridge.
âAlso, why should I be the one to say anything? Youâre the one who forgot about me. Youâre the one at fault. Why do I need to beg for you to remember me?â
It was as if Leoâs question had opened up Pandoraâs box. Amelie began venting all the emotions she had kept bottled up inside her.
âSince you forget about everything so resolutely, please keep it up and act as if you donât remember anything, Mr. Alston. We have gone our separate ways and weâll continue to lead separate lives,â Amelie declared before turning around and leaving.
If she stayed here any longer, she was afraid that the newly built city walls around her heart would collapse once more, and she would become a vengeful woman again.
Amelie walked back to the assembly point.
Leo didnât come after her.
Her tense heart finally relaxed a little.
Many people had gathered back at the assembly point.
They stared at her with knowing looks and quizzical gazes, but no one dared to voice their questions aloud.
Amelie ignored the looks in their eyes and occupied herself with her phone.
All of a sudden, a voice reached her ears. âDo you guys know what Mr. Alston did?â
