Eudora George pursed her lips and said, âYou donât have to explain it to me. It has nothing to do with me.â
Eudora realized that it was already five oâclock in the afternoon and there was only half an hour until the person in charge of the competition got off work. Eudora was anxious. She quickly made a phone call to the person in charge.
âIâm sorry, something went wrong with my computer. Iâm copying the files into the CD right now. Could you please wait for a while longer?â Eudora asked.
âIâm sorry. I canât break the rules for you!â
âI promise to send it over tonightâ¦â Eudora said.
However, the person had already hung up the phone before Eudora could finish speaking.
When the call was disconnected, Eudora felt an unprecedented grief stirring in her heart.
Eudora knew that she shouldnât be feeling this way. She had never expected anything from Amos the moment she got into a relationship with him.
However, looking at the documents on the table, Eudora couldnât contain her disappointment.
âWhat happened?â Amos asked.
âItâs none of your business! You just have to take care of Wendy Liam!â
Eudora spoke with anger. She did not hold back at all. Upon hearing this, Amosâ face darkened. He said, âEudora, do you know what youâre talking about?â
âWhat do you think Iâm talking about? Donât you feel tired being circled around by two women at the same time?â Eudora asked him back.
Amosâ gaze got gloomier, âI thought you knew the reason behind this better than anyone else.â he said.
âI know. But Iâm not a saint!â After saying that, she chuckled bitterly and hurried downstairs with some documents in her hand.
Amos swept the documents from the table to the ground. Did Eudora think she was the only one who was tired? Wasnât Amos equally tired as well?
Clint Zuckerberg looked at them, hesitating as he said, âIt seems like something happened to Miss George today.â
âFind out whatâs going on.â Amos took a deep breath and said.
Clint came back in a jiffy to tell Amos what happened to Eudora today. âThe CD that she has handed in for the competition canât be played. Also, her laptop was malfunctioning, and there are only ten minutes left for her toâ¦â
It was no wonder that she was in such a hurry.
She had put in a lot of effort into the competitionâ¦
Amos frowned and said, âFind the organizer of this competition now. We must solve this problem.â
âOkay!â Clint turned around and left.
Amos leaned against the chair for a while before he got up and went to the laptop repair shop.
â¦â¦
The staff turned on the laptop and told Eudora that all the documents inside her laptop would be gone if she wanted to fix the laptop.
The design blueprint for the competition and the logistics center were all on the laptop.
She dared not take this risk!
âIs there no other way?â Eudora asked helplessly.
âThere is another way. But it takes time. We can send your laptop to the manufacturer for a comprehensive examination, and they would try to help you to retain the information inside.â
âHow long would that take?â Eudora asked.
âThe soonest would be in three daysâ¦â
All of a sudden, the wall clock sounded. It was already six oâclock in the evening.
The deadline was up. Eudora nodded her head and said lifelessly, âPlease arrange it for me then.â
After coming out of the shop, Eudora felt exhausted. She didnât know what she had been holding on to for so long.
She thought she was really close to achieving her dreams.
But her dream just shattered into pieces just like that.
She drove the car forward, aimlessly, until she reached a dead end. Then, she stopped the car there.
Perhaps, she had reached the dead-end in her life as well.
â¦â¦
Amos caught up with Eudora. He saw her sitting on a stone by the river. She was hugging herself with her arms, curled up like a conch which had lost its shell.
Upon seeing this, Amos frowned. He took off his coat to put it around her body.
âIâm sorry. I was too impulsive just now.â he said.
Eudora remained silent. She stayed in the same position, not moving an inch.
After a long time, she said weakly, âIf we keep holding on like this, would we have a happy ending?â
Amos was scared when he saw how indifferent Eudora became.
âEudora, I know youâre exhausted. I will deal with these things as soon as possible, and Iâll tell Wendy about our relationship as soon as her condition improves.â Amos said.
âReally?â Eudora looked at Amos. She felt an invisible gap between the both of them, although he was right before her eyes.
Amos lowered his head to plant a kiss her forehead. âOf course.â
Eudora gradually calmed down with the warmth of his kiss.
Amos sat down beside her and held her into his arms. They sat there for what seemed like a very long time. Eudoraâs body felt cold because of the wind, and Amos helped her up.
âLetâs go back now.â
âI donât want to go back.â
Eudora shook her head and said.
âNo way. Donât you care about the competition tomorrow?â Amos asked.
Upon hearing this, Eudora was dumbstruck. âCompetition? But isnât the CDâ¦â
âI fixed it!â Amos said.
Eudoraâs eyes lit up. The gloomy mist that was covering her heart vanished in an instant. Tears welled up within her eyes. She said in a hoarse voice, âYouâre not lying, right?â
âI canât bear to lie to you.â Amos said.
Eudora threw herself into Amosâ arms as soon as he finished speaking. Tears rolled down her cheeks like a fountain, wetting his clothes in an instant.
She didnât know what was wrong with her, all sorts of emotions overwhelmed her at that moment. She didnât know what to feel, and could only bury herself in her tears.
Amos couldnât bear to see her crying. He lifted her face up.
âPlease donât cry anymore. Your face is wrinkled from all the crying.â
Eudora sniffled and said, âDo you think Iâm ugly?â
âNo! In fact, Iâd still love you even if you were an old ugly woman now.â Amos said.
Eudora broke into laughter and said, âSuch a sweet talker.â
âOnly to you.â Amos said.
His words acted like an invisible seal, stamping onto her and labeling her as his woman.
After that, Amos bent down and kissed her lips. Eudoraâs body stiffened for a moment before she held his waist and kissed him back passionately.
Eudora rarely took the initiative when it came to things like this, especially sex. Ever since Wendy came back, it was always Amos who took the initiative, almost as if it was his one-man show whenever they made out.
Amosâ heart skipped a beat. He looked around and swallowed his saliva, saying with a hoarse voice, âLetâs go home.â
However, Eudora did not stop. She began to unbutton his shirt one by one with her icy cold hands, which caused Amosâ body to tense up.
He took a deep breath and lifted Eudora in his arms.
âYou started it first.â Amos whispered huskily.
He carried her back into his car and put down the curtains.
Then, Amos lowered his head to kiss the womanâs lips, while Eudora finished unbuttoning his shirt. Then she tried to unbuckle his belt.
Amos was completely hard. He reached his hand out to lift her skirt, pulling down that last layer of underwear.
In the past, Eudora had always closed her eyes whenever they were having sex. However, she was looking at Amos today, quietly, as he enveloped her body.
She held him in her arms tightly, calling his name over and over again as she shoved her body into him again and again.
It seemed that it was the only way for her to prove that this man belonged to her.
