The servant cried out and avoided the attack.
Amos Granger raised his hand to catch the cup. Then, he threw it to the servant, who was standing behind him, and strode inside.
âWendy! Whatâs wrong?â
The originally mad woman seemed to come back to her senses the moment she heard Amosâ voice. She rushed towards Amos immediately. âAmos!â
Just when she was about to run into his arms, Amos placed his hands on her shoulders, âWhatâs wrong?â He asked.
Wendy paused for a moment. Then, she said in horror, âI had a nightmare. In my dream, someone was whipping me in a dark basement!â
Upon hearing this, his gaze darkened, and said in a hurry, âItâs alright now. Itâs just a dream. Youâre now in Rosaville City, which is tens of thousands of miles away from that place. Those people will never approach you again.â
âBut Iâm really scared!â Wendy said in a trembling voice.
âItâs okay.â Amos said. Then, he helped her to sit down on the bed and said, âLook at the flowers on the table and close your eyes. You will have a beautiful dream this time.â
âReally?â
âOf course!â Amos nodded his head and said.
Upon hearing this, Wendy closed her eyes obediently. Seeing how she was calmer, Amos took a deep breath and wanted to get up. All of a sudden, Wendy opened her eyes and said, âAmos, could you please stay here beside me?â
Amos looked at his wristwatch. It was about one oâclock in the morning.
âOkay. You should sleep first.â
Wendy closed her eyes with satisfaction, and managed to calm herself down immediately.
The servant couldnât help but praise, âMr. Granger, you know how to comfort people so well.â
Did he even comfort her? Amos was also shocked. Harley would definitely burst into laughter if he heard that. Amos was an indifferent person who spoke nothing but cold words just six months ago. Unexpectedly, he knew how to comfort people now.
Amos suddenly thought of the lazy and mischievous woman. He couldnât help but smile.
âShe should have fallen asleep by now, right?â He thought.
Amos missed her so much. He stood up immediately and said, âPlease take care of Miss Liam. Iâm going back now!â
âOkay!â The servant responded and nodded.
However, just as he was done saying those words, Wendy opened her eyes again. She asked, âAmos, are you leaving?â
Amos frowned, âYou were not asleep yet?â
âIâm not going to sleep. Bad guys will come to me if I fall asleep!â Wendy said.
Amos was a little helpless. He tried to comfort her, âThere wonât be any bad people anymore!â Then, he turned to look at the servant, who was standing behind him and said, âWhy isnât the doctor here yet?â
The servant said immediately, âIâll go ask where he is now.â
Wendy looked at Amos apologetically and said, âIâm sorry, did I trouble you? Please just go back now. Iâm fine being alone.â
Although she said so, Amos knew that she wasnât emotionally stable yet. Therefore, he shook his head and said, âNo, Iâm not leaving.â
âReally?â Wendy smiled and said, âCan you please tell me a story then? Perhaps Iâll fall asleep listening to the story.â
A story? Amos frowned and said, âI donât know how to tell a story.â
âJust tell me a story!â Wendy begged, âJust one!â
After thinking for a while, Amos suddenly remembered the story Eudora George told him back then, when he was having rashes.
He opened his mouth, looking somewhat awkward as he spoke.
âHow many steps would it take to put an elephant into the refrigerator?â
Wendy looked at him in shock and asked him back, âHow many?â
Amos remembered how he refused to answer Eudora, as he was feeling very itchy from the rashes back then, so he wasnât in the mood to cooperate with her jokes.
Eudora begged him twice for a reply. Seeing how he kept quiet, Eudora could only answer herself.
âThree steps!â
âFirst, you have to open the refrigerator door. Second, you have to put the elephant in. Lastly, you need to close the refrigerator door!â
Eudora burst into laughter after she finished speaking.
Amosâ lips curved into a smile when he thought of the moment.
Wendy looked at him shockingly. She said, âAre you smiling? Wow! This is the first time Iâve ever seen you smile. I must remember this joke forever!â
Amos was dumbstruck. Did he just smile?
All of a sudden, the servant came back, âSir, Dr. Leon is here!â
Dr. Leon was a psychiatrist whom Amos had hired just to treat Wendy. When Dr. Leon entered the room, he was very surprised to see that Wendy had already calmed herself down .
âDid you give her any medicine?â Dr. Leon asked.
âNo!â The servant said. âMr. Granger came in and comforted Miss Liam, and she recovered after that.â
Upon hearing this, the doctor glanced at Amos as he said, âWell, this is a good sign. This shows that her condition is improving. As her family member, you should spend more time with her. You should also let her communicate with more people under suitable circumstances, for her to be more independent as well. Or perhaps, you could let her go to work, it might speed up her recovery process.â
âCan I really go to work?â Wendy asked happily. âAmos, did you hear that? I can go to work!â
Amos frowned and said, âBut, sheâs still frightened when she is in a crowded area. Can she really go to work?â
âYes. But, she has to be familiar with the people working in the company. I think this shouldnât be a difficult task for you, Mr. Granger.â
Wendy quickly grabbed Amosâ arm and said, âI want to go to work.â
Amos pulled his arm back subconsciously as he asked, âDo you really want to go to work?â
âYes!â Wendy said with a smile.
âWhat do you want to do then?â Amos asked.
âIâ¦â Wendy thought for a while before she said, âI havenât thought about it yetâ¦â
âI remember back then you mentioned to me that you like designing clothes, right?â
Upon hearing that, Wendy was dumbfounded.
âI almost forgot about it!â
She mentioned this to Amos when she was comforting him last time. She said, âWhat do you want to do after we get out?â
However, Amos remained silent then. Thus Wendy continued on her own, âI want to learn fashion design. I want to design a beautiful dress!â Her eyes were gleaming as she spoke back then. Unfortunately, she looked so sorrowful now, unlike before.
âIt doesnât matter!â Amos said, âYou can always start from scratch. Iâll get a teacher to teach you fashion design tomorrow!â
âReally?â Wendy was overwhelmed. âYouâre so kind to me, Amos!â
â¦â¦
The next day, Eudora woke up, subconsciously looking at the spot next to her.
Amos was not beside her. She sat up immediately to look at the clock on the wall. It was already past eight oâclock in the morning.
Was he not back yet?
She didnât bother to change her clothes either. She went downstairs hurriedly, and saw Amos sitting in the living room.
He was reading the newspaper, like he always did.
The anxiety in her heart then vanished into thin air. She walked towards him and put her arms around his waist. âWhen did you come back?â She asked.
The man turned around and kissed her cheek. âI came back at three oâclock in the morning. I didnât want to wake you up because you were sleeping soundly.â
âOh!â Eudora remained silent for a while before she said again, âWell⦠letâs have breakfast together!â
âOkay.â Amos nodded his head, and took her hand.
âThe doctor suggested for Wendy to get to know more people. I planned to organize some team building activities this weekend. Youâ¦â
âIâm not free!â Eudora interrupted Amos before he could even finish his sentence.
