Anger thrummed through Harryâs veins upon hearing that. âWhy should we do that? We have been working so hard for this opportunity. I will go and meet them regardless.â He got up and ordered her, âPass me my clothes.â
Kaylene knew that it was impossible for her to convince Harry otherwise, so she got up and passed his clothes to him.
Harry repeated a few important points of his plan to Kaylene before they departed.
âYou watch over my brother after I leave. Stall him if he is looking for me. Iâll be back soon.â
âOkay!â Kaylene nodded. After Harry left, she headed to the Old Masterâs room with a box in her hands.
Amosâ cell phone rang again.
It was Clint on the phone. He updated him on Harryâs whereabouts, âThe Second Master has gone out and is heading to the West Mountain.â
âWhat about the Cooper family?â asked Amos.
âThey are also there now. I feel like they really are desperate to get the deal.â
âLet them be! We will just sit back and enjoy the âshowâ!â Amos hung up the phone and looked at Eudora. âShall we go?â
Eudora nodded. She had taken enough pictures of the place.
They ambled down the road and saw the Old Master playing chess with Kaylene in the yard.
Kaylene was about to lose to the Old Master. Everyone could tell that the Old Master was getting impatient.
Amos raised his eyebrows and walked over to them with Eudora.
Kaylene laughed when she saw them. âAmos, thank God youâre here! Your father is indeed an expert in chess. Iâm no match for him. Do you want to give it a try? â
Amos rejected her invitation, âI canât really use my hand now.â
His hands were still in bandages. Eudora rolled her eyes secretly when she thought of how âfunctionalâ his hands were last night.
âIâm done!â The Old Master put down his pawn and said.
Kaylene became anxious instantly. âI can help you to move the piece if your hands are hurt,â Kaylene suggested.
Amos smiled and replied, âAunt, donât you need to keep uncle company?â Amos could sense her desperation.
âHe is asleepâ¦â Kaylene lied. At the same time, the Old Master looked at her and interrupted, âOh, really? Letâs go and see him.â
âBrother!â Kaylene stopped him right away. âI wouldnât dare to lie to you! Harry asked me to play chess with you since you have come all the way here. Heâs so sorry that he cannot meet you himself.â
The Old Master wasnât deceived by Kayleeneâs made-up lies. He felt more suspicious seeing her trying so hard to stop him.
âThank you for being considerate, Kaylene. Since we are done here, letâs go and see him now!â said the Old Master as he stood up with his crutch.
The servants behind him quickly came forward to help him while Kaylene followed after him.
âBrother, look! The scenery there is so beautiful. Shall we go there for a while?â Kaylene was not giving up. She continued, âSomeone told me that thereâs a beautiful lake over there!â
âShut up!â The Old Master yelled. He was not going to trust Kaylene again.
Knowing that she had messed up, Kaylene looked at her feet quietly. They passed through the yard and went straight for Harryâs room.
As expected, no one was in the room.
The Old Master frowned and asked, âWhere is he? Didnât you say that he was sleeping?â
Kaylene tried to make up another excuse. âPerhaps he went to the restroom. Iâll go and check.â
âNo, you stay here. The butler will go!â ordered the Old Master.
When the butler was about to leave the room, someone from outside screamed, âSecond Madam! Somethingâs wrong!â
Kaylene recognized the voice and quickly replied, âWhy are you shouting?â It was the guy who left with Harry just now.
The man immediately shut his mouth when he saw the people in the room.
The Old Master frowned and asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
The man glanced at Kaylene and kept quiet.
âSay it!â The Old Master hit the ground with his crutch. âWill you be responsible if something goes wrong?â
Without a doubt, the Old Masterâs threat worked.
The man told them everything that he knew.
âSomething happened to the Second Master. He is at the West Mountain.â
Dumbstruck, Kaylene asked, âWhat happened?â
The man hesitated for a moment and replied, âHe was robbed!â
âWhat?â Kayleneâs heart sank. âWhere is he now?â
The man answered, âHeâs hurt. We are carrying him back now.â
Harry was carried into the room before the man finished talking. His injury looked pretty bad. His face was filled with annoyance and frustration. âIâm certainly not going to forgive the Coopers.â
âSay that again!â The Old Master slammed the table and stood up.
Only then did Harry notice the Old Master in the room. He glanced at Kaylene.
Kaylene lowered her head knowing that the situation had gone out of control.
âBrother, why are you here?â Harry asked softly.
Fury roared through the Old Masterâs mind. âI know that you have something up your sleeve when you asked her to distract me. But, I did not expect that you would go and make a deal with someone else behind my back. Whatâs worse is you end up losing both the deal and the money! Youâre indeed my brother! Youâd better tell me everything you have done,â the Old Master exploded.
Harry gritted his teeth. âBrother, hear me out! Itâs not what you think it is. I just wanted to impress you after taking over Valiant East. It was meant to be a surprise, thatâs why I didnât tell you about it. Itâs for the companyâs sake. â
âFor the companyâs sake?â The Old Master snorted. âThen what about the Cooper Family? Do you think that I donât know what kind of business they have been doing? Why do we need to get involved with them?â The Old Master raged.
Although the Old Master had been ill, his mind remained clear. No one could fool him.
âIf you are not going to tell me exactly what happened today, then leave the Granger family at once!â The Old Master glowered.
Harry clenched his teeth and bellowed, âYes! I admit that I did that for my own benefit. But whatâs so wrong with that? It was all because of you! How long do my family and I have to live under your thumb?â
The Old Master trembled with rage. âUnder my thumb? Is this what you think all this while?â
Harry shouted, âYeah? In the past, everyone listened to you in the Granger Family. Then you became the head of the family. Hank was supposed to take over you after that. Is it Amosâ turn now then? You never treated me like I was your brother. Since Steven has grown up, I have to start thinking about my future.â
The Old Master clenched his fist. âOf course, you should start thinking about your future. So from now on, donât come to the company!â
âBrother!â Harry held the Old Masterâs leg and pleaded, âIâm sorry. I will never do it again. Please give me another chance!â
The Old Master frowned. Meanwhile, his assistant received a phone call. He walked to the Old Master immediately and whispered into his ears.
The Old Master went cold with fury. âYou even embezzled from the company funds!â
