Everything was pitch black when she woke up.
Eudora struggled to open her eyes, and she heard a soft voice whispering beside her ear.
âMiss George, are you awake?â
Eudora frowned. She immediately became alert when she recalled the events that happened before she fainted.
âWho are you? Where is Juju?â
âMiss Juju is fine! Donât worry.â
Eudora struggled to sit up, only to discover that she was tied up. She gritted her teeth and growled, âWhat are you guys trying to do by tying me up?â
When the man saw Eudora trying to set herself free, he tried to stop her hurriedly.
âMiss George, please donât move. It will be our fault if these ropes cut you. We have invited you here with no malice. But, I hope that you could cooperate with us. As long as weâve done what we were asked to do, weâll let you go immediately.â
The manâs tone was very polite. It sounded as though he respected Eudora very much.
Eudora furrowed her brows. Didnât he refer to Juju as Miss Juju a while ago? Why was he so respectful to her? He even addressed her as Miss George.
She thought of the man who stopped her before she lost her consciousness. The man looked familiar. It felt as though she had seen him somewhere before.
Eudora took a deep breath to calm herself down, then pretended to be angry and bellowed.
âYou said that you wouldnât hurt me, yet you tied me up here! When I go back, Iâll teach you a lesson!â
âPlease donât do that, Miss George. We had no choice. We did it because we were afraid that you would run away. Moreover, if we fail to handle this matter properly, not only will you not spare us, but Mrâ¦â
The man paused before continuing, âOur leader will not forgive us either! Miss George, please endure it a little more! Iâve brought some food for you. Please eat some to fill your stomach.â
The smell of food wafted over. What came after was the noise made by a lighter being flicked. The man lit a candle and approached Eudora.
âMiss George, please eat! Iâll untie your arms.â
Eudora was indeed hungry, but she didnât dare to eat too much. She would be doomed if the food was drugged or poisoned.
However, in order not to arouse their suspicion, Eudora eventually ate two mouthfuls casually before putting down her fork.
The man quickly tied up her arms again and carried the food out.
The room soon fell into darkness again. Eudora leaned against the bedâs headboard and silently contemplated what the man said a while ago.
He mentioned something about his leaderâ¦
The leader was probably a respectable person. At that moment, the respectable men by her side were only Fabian, and⦠Amos?
Eudoraâs heart tightened when she recalled Amos. She took a sharp breath and immediately dismissed the thought. How could it be Amos? It was impossible.
She would rather believe that it was Fabian who wanted to cause trouble in secret. She refused to believe that Amos wanted to kidnap her.
Eudora closed her eyes and guessed that it was already late at night. She would probably be safe in the meantime. If she wanted to deal with this situation with full strength tomorrow, she would need to nurse her energy now.
She forced herself to calm down and tried to close her eyes to rest.
â¦
The sky was already bright when Eudora woke up the next morning.
With the sunshine peering in, Eudora could finally see the inside of the room a wee bit clearly. It was neither a storage room nor a wasted factory but a chic, small bedroom.
The sofas, cabinets, and even the big bed she was lying on, was well-prepared.
It seemed that she was not in the suburbs. Perhaps she was in the downtown area.
However, there seemed to be something stuck on the window. Eudora stretched her neck but failed to see the outside.
She had disappeared for an entire night. Those at home were probably anxious. Did Juju cry? Eudoraâs heart burned with anxiety at the thought of that.
She felt that she shouldnât wait for others to save her. She had to save herself.
It was just thatâ¦
She was tied up and she couldnât move at allâ¦
All of a sudden, she heard footsteps coming from outside. Soon after, a conversation could be heard.
âIs everything okay inside?â
âItâs fine! She was very quiet last night. Sheâs indeed the woman that he likes. Sheâs courageous.â
Eudora frowned as she heard the other person speak again.
âYou should be careful and not hurt her. If she so much so as to lose a strand of hair, he definitely wouldnât let you go!â
âNoted!â
As Eudora listened on, an idea suddenly flashed through her mind. She deliberately rubbed her arms with all her might to grind her arms on the ropes to scrape her skin!
Then, she shouted in anger.
âIs anyone there?â
The conversation outside came to an abrupt end. Soon, footsteps could be heard rushing in.
âMiss George, what can I do for you?â
The one who spoke was the man who had deceived Eudora the day before. The more Eudora looked at him, the more familiar he became, but she couldnât seem to place him.
Eudora pretended to snort in an unruly manner when he entered.
âThatâs nice of you. Didnât you say that youâll respect me? Is it a form of respect to tie me up for a night like this?â
The man looked visibly troubled, âButâ¦â
She stretched her arms out, âYou caused my arms to be like this. Iâll make sure to teach you two a lesson when I get back!â
The two men were shocked, âHow could this happen?â
âArenât you ashamed to say that? You better not untie me. Leave me be till the day you let me out!â
The men flustered upon hearing Eudoraâs words.
âMiss George, please donât say that. Hey, hurry up and untie her!â
The man next to him was still hesitating, âBut⦠he said that Miss George knows martial arts. What if she escapes?â
âIf the wound on her arm is so severe, do you think that he will let you go?â
Eudora maintained a straight face, listening to their conversation and trying to guess the âheâ they were referring to.
All of a sudden, one of the men reached out and untied the rope that wounded Eudora. The other man then rushed out and spoke to his accomplice, âGo and buy some medicine. Miss George needs some medicine to be applied onto her wound!â
The accomplice hesitated for a while before eventually leaving. After he departed, another man came over.
âMiss George, please forgive him for his ignorance. Please donât get angry. After you get back, I hope that you will be merciful to us in front of our leader.â
Eudora frowned, âWho exactly is this leader youâre talking about?â
The man paused and said, âMiss George, do you really not know? Who else in this world cares so much about you apart from our leader?â
The other man soon came back with a glass of water, âMiss George, please have a glass of water!â
Eudora took advantage of the man who served her the glass of water and grabbed his arm before flinging him down to press him against the sofa.
âSpeak! Who is this leader that youâre talking about? Why does he want to lock me up here?â
