Amos froze for a second and asked, âWhy do you ask such a question?â
Her conversation with the Old Master about how a child should grow up in a loving environment echoed in her thoughts.
âNo reason. If you areâ¦â She replied.
âI donât want to!â Amos quickly interrupted.
It was as if he was afraid that she would blurt out more unreasonable requests.
He added, âWho do you think you are? We are not in that kind of relationship. Having a child with you is not what I look for.â
âOh!â Eudoraâs heart skipped a beat. âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have asked such an absurd question.â
Although she knew in her heart that this was going to happen, she still felt inexplicably upset and disappointed when she heard it herself from Amos.
Even though she knew that she shouldnât have expected much from their relationship since the beginning, but she realised that perhaps deep inside her heart, there was still a little sliver of hope.
Annoyed at her facial expression, Amos threw the remote control onto the table and strode to his room.
â¦
In the Granger family.
Raw anger shot through Harry. He returned to this room and scolded the servant who was cleaning his room for no reason.
Kaylene walked over and asked, âWhatâs wrong? I thought you were happy to see your brother. Who made you so angry? Did he bother you?â
âAh! Donât mention that old man! We have done so much for the Granger family all these years. When Zulia passed away, I accompanied him every day to comfort him. And now since he had found Amos back, he tried to take away and give all my rights to him. He even wants Amos and that woman to have a child of their own!â Harry yelled.
Stunned, Kaylene asked, âDoesnât your brother hate that woman?â
âSo what? He just wants a child! Donât you understand? As long as their bloodline can be passed down, our family will be tossed out like used toilet paper!â He bellowed.
She finally understood what was going on. Her expression changed instantly.
âThatâs so selfish of him! What should we do?â She said.
âWe shouldââHarry sneeredâânot let that child be born! Otherwise, we will lose our rights in the family!â
âBut how could we get close to that woman when Amos is always watching over her?â She put her hand under her chin.
âSo what? Iâm sure there will be times when heâs not around.â Harry paused for a moment and asked, âHave you gone to see Samantha lately?â
Kaylene paused and answered, âWell, I did. But sheâs still depressed and sleeps all day.â
âIt seems like this girl really likes Amos! When we adopted her, we thought that she could be useful one day, and we could possibly marry her off to someone influential when she grows up. Now it seems like she is useless.â
Kaylene nodded immediately. âIâll see her again in the next few days.â
â¦
Amos was not in his room when Eudora got up the next morning.
She looked to the side of the bed next to her. It looked like he never came back at all.
He spent an entire night outsideâ¦
Eudora sat quietly for a while, staring into space before she washed up.
She saw Aunt Valerie when she went downstairs, who then informed her, âSir went out late last night. What would you like to eat for breakfast?â
Eudora shook her head. She knew that something was wrong.
She went to the balcony and decided to grab a book to read. Although the weather was nice, she couldnât read a word. Cola came to her legs and looked at her with its black eyes.
âCola, whatâs wrong with him? Do you think heâs still mad?â Eudora asked.
Cola replied by licking her hand. She wasnât sure if she should cry or laugh at it.
Ringgggg! She quickly got up and answered her phone.
It was from Harley Louis. He said on the phone, âHey Sister-in-law, are you free now?â
âWhatâs wrong?â She asked.
âCome to my place and bring Amos back. Heâs drunk,â Harley glanced at Amos, who was smoking at the balcony. He thought to himself, âBro, I can only help you this much.â
Harley hung up the phone happily when he heard Eudoraâs anxious reply. She said she would go and pick Amos up right away.
Harley went to Amos with a cup of coffee on his hand while looking at the ashtray on the table overflowing with cigarette butts.
He complained, âAre you going to spread nuclear weapons and kill me?â
Amos rolled his eyes. âWho did you call just now?â
Harley felt a shiver down his back. He was pretty sure that he did this at somewhere Amos couldnât see or hear him. He wondered how he had noticed it.
âMy colleague. Just something about work.â He blurted.
Amos could tell that he was lying instantly. But, surprisingly, he didnât question any further.
Harley sighed, âHey, you are in trouble. I can tell that you have fallen head over heels for her based on your current situation.â
âShut up!â Amos yelled.
Harley took another sip of coffee and continued, âMan up! You should just talk to her if itâs troubling you. Hiding at my place is not going to help, and it makes me look down on you.â
âOh really?â Amos said coldly, âDo you?â
âAh!â Harley laughed loudly to conceal his nervousness, âI gotta go. I got something else to do.â
He quickly disappeared.
However, he ran back three seconds later and shouted, âBoss, Sister-in-law is hurt!â
Amos glanced at him coldly and warned, âDonât you dare joke about her!â
âI swear Iâm not lying. Something really happened to her. I just received a phone callâ¦â Harley replied.
Before he could finish his words, Amos pushed him away and dashed out of the room.
By the time they arrived, the police had already cordoned off the scene. The ambulance was also there. It was total chaos.
Harley showed his ID to the policemen for access and entered the scene with Amos.
âWhat happened?â Harley asked.
âA car crash. Two cars collided. One turned over. And a passenger is still in itâ¦â The police officer told.
Amos tried to go closer to the destroyed cars when the officer was explaining what happened.
Blood was seen streaming slowly out of the car, like a blooming rose.
Dumbfounded, Harley closed his mouth with hands and whispered, âItâs all my fault. If I didnât call her, she wouldnât haveâ¦â
Amos ignored him and rushed towards the car. The firemen who were putting off the fire yelled at him, âSir, you canât go there. The car will explode!â
Amos didnât care. He even pushed away Harley who was trying to stop him. He couldnât imagine his life without her.
He picked up a brick on the ground and smashed the window glass.
Everyone quickly gathered around and helped to open the passenger door.
More blood flowed out from the car as soon as the door was opened.
The situation was far more serious than what they had been told. Amosâ heart sank. He had never been this scared in his life.
