Eudora had thought before that if she were to get married someday, she hoped that her husband would be just an ordinary man with an ordinary job.
She didnât crave power or status and she was fine with living a mundane life as long as they both worked hard every day. And whenever they had some free time, they could go to the grocer hand in hand to buy some groceries.
How joyful it would be to bargain with the vendor every now and then!
However, she ended up marrying Felix. Before marrying him, she knew that her life would be miserable, but she didnât expect it to be so bad.
For three years, Felix locked her at home as though she were his servant while he was out spending a lot of money!
She would go to the market every day, but she didnât feel like a wife cooking for her loved one.
Finally, she got divorced from Felix. She thought that she could start a brand new life. However, Amos came into her life.
Amos treated her well, but she was too cherished by Amos to the point where she felt as though she was like a precious collection of his.
After so long, she finally had a chance to prove herself worthy. Eudora was actually quite happy.
When they were on their way out, Eudora suddenly suggested, âCould we not drive? Is it okay for us to be like an ordinary couple today?â
Amos nodded and said, âOkay!â
Juju was an adventurous kid, hence she was also very supportive of this idea.
âDaddy, why donât we ride a bike? The kind with a basket in front. Can we?â
Jujuâs words were so vivid that Eudora couldnât help but recall the time when she was abroad. She would bring Juju out to buy groceries sometimes and they would always see men riding their bikes to the grocers.
Those bicycles usually had front baskets installed on them. Eudora recalled seeing Juju staring at them for a long time.
She didnât expect this little girl to actually remember that.
Amos frowned. âA bicycle?â
He hadnât ridden a bicycle for many years!
âItâs okay!â Eudora said hurriedly. âWe could just walk there!â
âItâs alright!â Amos immediately called Clint. âGet me a bicycle. A big one!â
Clint, who was having dinner with Anya, was dumbfounded.
âPresident Granger? Did I hear you correctly? Are you asking for a bicycle?â
âYou heard correctly! I want the kind with a front basketâ¦â
Clint was flabbergasted.
President Granger seemed to become more down-to-earth now! But, what era were they in now? Where would he find such an antique bicycle?
After Clint hung up, he got up and apologized to Anya. âIâm sorry, I might have to excuse myself for a moment. I need to help President Granger find a bicycle now.â
Anya smiled and said, âI have one in my house. Why donât you come and get it?â
Clint felt relief in his heart. âReally? Thatâs great!â He was cracking his head on where to find one.
Anyaâs house was nearby, and they soon got the bike. It was very old-fashioned, but it was maintained very well. It looked 90% brand new.
âWhy do you have a bike like this?â Clint asked curiously.
Anyaâs fingers paused for a moment before she said, âThis was⦠left behind by him!â
Clint knew that the man Anya was referring to was her ex-husband. Clint and Anya had known each other for a long time, so naturally, he knew that Anya had been married in the past.
He even met him once before. At that time, their relationship was truly amazing.
Unfortunately, he passed away.
Clint looked up and saw the deep affection in Anyaâs eyes. Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat, and he felt a little jealous inside.
Anya seemed to still love him very much.
It had been a long time since he had passed away, yet she still kept his things with her. This bike was obviously being well taken care of.
Clint felt a pang of jealousy in his heart. He lowered his head hurriedly and said, âIâll bring it back to you after President Granger is done using it.â
Anya nodded. âSure!â
â¦
Thirty minutes later, Clint brought the bike to Clearwater Bay.
Amos picked up the bike carefully and gave it a try before placing his daughter in the baby seat in front while Eudora sat in the back.
A family of three, oh wait, four, soon headed for the supermarket.
As a matter of fact, it was actually against the rules to ride a bike this way. Fortunately, there were no cars on the way as Clearwater Bay was an upper-class neighborhood, so no one stopped them.
It was Jujuâs first time riding such a bike, so she was chattering very excitedly along the way.
Eudora, however, sat quietly in the back, watching as the roadside scenery slowly passed her by. At this moment, her heart was extremely calm.
âWhatâs wrong?â Amosâs voice rang out. She was quiet the entire time, so he was a bit concerned.
âIâm fine!â Eudora smiled. âItâs just that itâd be nice if days like these could last longer!â
Amosâs heart skipped a beat, and he pretended to be confused, âWhat do you mean?â
âNothing! Iâm just thinking about the groceries weâre going to buy later. Juju likes fish right? Letâs get some fresh codfish later. And pork ribs and Amosâ favorite lamb shankâ¦â
âI want eggplant!â Juju exclaimed.
âOh, and brussels sprouts that Daddy likes to eat!â
Eudora pursed her lips. âAlright! Weâll get all of them.â
They arrived at a very large market not long after leaving Clearwater Bay. Eudora did not go to the supermarket, because the market was more lively.
They parked the bike at the entrance. As soon as they entered the market, they heard all kinds of noise.
The fish sellers, meat sellers, and all kinds of bargaining voices could be heard! Most importantly, it was so crowded and lively.
Eudora turned her head to look at Amos subconsciously. âAre you afraid?â
Amos was shocked. âOf?â
Eudora was worried that Amos would be afraid because he had never liked the crowd. However, after looking at his firm expression, Eudora decided not to say anything else.
âNothing! Letâs go in then!â
The next second, Amos grabbed her arm.
âTake my hand!â After that, he picked Juju up with one arm. âDaddy will carry you.â
As soon as the three of them entered the market, their unbecoming aura attracted the attention of numerous people, especially Amos. He was no doubt very good-looking, coupled with the fact that he was constantly paying attention to Eudora, making sure that she was not getting pushed by someone. He had suddenly become the center of attention.
âDo you want some fish?â A middle-aged woman shouted.
Eudora nodded. âOf course!â She picked a fresh one. Eudora suddenly poked the back of Amosâ hand with a wicked look on her face.
âGive a price.â
Amos thought it was time to pay, so he immediately took out his wallet.
Eudora blinked her eyes again, indicating him to look at the man beside them.
The man was tall and sturdy. He was bargaining with the vendor of the stall next door.
âThree fifty?â
The vendor shook his head and said, âNo, no, the lowest I can give is three dollars and eighty cents! If you want, Iâll clean it for you.â
âThree dollars sixty cents! Deal and Iâll have two more pounds, else Iâll go!â
In the end, the vendor compromised. âAlright! Alright!â
Amos focused his glance at the man. Even though he had been poor in the past, it was hard to imagine why a man would fight for that little money.
