âReally?â Doctor Leon asked in excitement.
Although Amos didnât say anything, it could be seen that he was actually very excited to hear the good news.
âItâs true!â Doctor Chilton said, âIâve checked Miss Georgeâs medical reports. The poison mainly affects the patientâs kidneys. So far, Miss Georgeâs kidneys have been affected the most in her body. The other organs have only sustained minor damages. If we could find a donor kidney for Miss George and successfully transplant the healthy kidney into her, we could remove the remaining poison from her body. Then⦠she may have a great chance of recovery.â
A kidney transplant?
Amos nodded immediately and said, âIâll send people to look for a suitable kidney donor immediately.â
âBut⦠the problem is we might not have much time leftâ¦â Doctor Chilton said apologetically. âFor Miss Georgeâs current situation, the sooner the better.â
Helen asked quickly, âHow much time do we have left?â
âThree days!â Doctor Chilton said, âAnd, Mr. Granger, as I had said earlier, I had discovered this plan only recently. If we do this, weâre basically gambling with her life. We could still reconsiderâ¦â
âThereâs no time!â Amos exclaimed.
Doctor Chilton had already said that there were only three days left. If they were to continue dilly-dallying, then Eudora wouldâ¦
He couldnât let that happen!
âUse mine!â Amos quickly suggested. âMy kidney should be a suitable match for Eudora!â
After Eudoraâs accident back then, he did a check-up and found that their health profiles were very similar. At that time, he felt that it must have been a gift from God.
Now, it seemed like it really was the case. Perhaps the heavens did want Eudora to be saved!
Doctor Chilton frowned and said, âBut Mr. Granger, youâre still injured. If you donate your kidney now, your life might be at stake. Itâs not certain whether you would be able to stay aliveâ¦â
âI donât care! As long as I could save Eudora, Iâm willing to do anything!â
Doctor Leon interrupted their conversation hurriedly and said, âDoctor Chilton, Amos, donât fret! Didnât Doctor Chilton say that there are still three days left? Why donât we look for other kidney donors first?â
Doctor Chilton nodded and said, âYes, Doctor Leon is right. We still have time, Mr. Granger.â
Amos had no choice but to acquiesce for the time being. âYes, but I have to do the compatibility test immediately.â
He must be well-prepared for everything. He could not let Eudoraâs life be at stake.
âOkay, Iâll arrange for it. Letâs go to the hospital now.â
Amos nodded and glanced at Eudora, who was still asleep, before following Doctor Chilton to the hospital. He was determined to save her no matter what.
He called Clint on his way to the hospital.
âFind a way to contact all the medical storehouses in the world. As long as there is a kidney that matches Eudoraâs, no matter what cost it takes, we must get it. Do you understand?â
Clint knew that Eudora was poisoned, but he didnât expect it to be so serious.
Stunned for a moment, he asked, âWill Mrs. Granger be in danger?â
âNo!â Amos blurted out. âSheâll be fine.â
He didnât know whether he was comforting Clint or himself.
They still had to wait for the result after getting to the hospital. Doctor Leon looked at Amosâ slightly pale face worriedly.
âMr. Granger, you look a little pale. Why donât you take a rest in my office?â
âNo!â Amos refused instantly. âDoctor Chilton had already administered the injection to Eudora, right? She should wake up soon! I have to be there when she wakes up.â
Doctor Leon frowned, and Helen, who was next to him, couldnât stand it anymore.
âPresident Granger, Miss George will be upset if she were to see you like this! Iâll get you a glass of milk, so please rest first.â
Amos ignored her and reached out to touch his face.
They all said that he looked very pale. At last, he found a seat in Doctor Chiltonâs office and sat down.
Helen quickly brought him the glass of milk and said, âMr. Granger, would you like to drink some? This is jujube milk, it could help replenish your blood!â
Amos didnât take it. Instead, he turned around and called the nurse, âPlease help me get some milk.â
The nurse glanced at Helen and nodded.
Helenâs hand froze mid-air. She withdrew it awkwardly and placed the glass of milk on the table.
The nurse quickly came back. Amos drank the milk before he got up and went out.
After Amos left, Doctor Leon sighed and asked, âHelen, why are you doing this?â
Helen glanced at the milk that was left untouched on the table and said, âDad, Iâm not expecting anything. Iâm just showing him a little bit of concern.â
Doctor Leon stopped talking. Amosâ attitude was obvious anyway. It seemed that his daughter wouldnât give up that easily.
â¦
Amos drove all the way back and sure enough, Eudora had already woken up and was playing with Juju in the living room.
Juju had already been instructed by Amos to not tell Eudora about her coma in the morning.
Hence, she kept it to herself, but she would stare at Eudora secretly from time to time, as though fearing that her Mommy would disappear in a blink of an eye.
Eudora noticed her gaze and asked her a little suspiciously, âWhatâs wrong? Do I look weird today?â
Juju shook her head, âNo, itâs just that I realized that I never drew a portrait of you before, Mommy. Mommy, why donât I draw you?â
Eudora nodded. âSure!â
At the same time, Amos came in and Eudora greeted him with a smile while saying, âYou came back at just the right time. Juju said that she wanted to draw a portrait of me. Would you like to join us?â
Amos looked at her for a long time and realized that she looked different from when she was in a daze earlier in the morning. The medicine that Doctor Chilton had administered to her seemed to have woken her up entirely.
However, his mind was still filled with Doctor Chiltonâs words.
Three days. They only had three more days!
âAlright!â Amos grinned. If someone had to leave this world three days later, then without a doubt, he would choose himself.
They went to the garden to paint in the afternoon.
All the white lilies in the garden had previously been replaced with tiger lilies. They symbolized tenacity and their various vibrant colors were as beautiful as sunflowers when it bloomed.
Eudora leaned her head on Amosâ shoulder and held her belly with one hand. A genuine smile was plastered on her face.
Although she was reluctant to part with her family, Eudora was already satisfied to be able to spend such precious times with them before she left.
However, medicines could only serve her temporarily after all. Eudora was energized for half a day and she was already feeling sleepy again when the sky was getting dark.
She tried her best to hold on, but the more she tried to act as though nothing had happened, the more troubled Amos felt.
Amos patted her on the back and asked, âAre you tired? If you are very sleepy, why donât you go upstairs and have a rest?â
Eudora recalled that feeling in the morning when she wanted to wake up but couldnât no matter how hard she tried. She immediately shook her head.
âNo, Iâm not tired. Why donât you accompany me for archery?â
