âEverythingâs fine!â Amos said.
âYouâre lying!â Eudora pouted and glared at him with her hands on her hips. It was supposed to be a scary move, yet she was so adorable when she did it.
âIf the companyâs fine, you wouldnât have been so angry!â
âSomeone is messing up the project, but I have already asked Clint to deal with it.â
Eudora came to a sudden realization. Outsiders may see Valiant East as a perfect prestigious company, but in reality, only they knew what rubbish they had to deal with internally.
Amos had been dismissed by the board of directors the last time, it was only natural that his sudden return would anger those who found him a threat.
Especially the Hamilton familyâ¦
Eudora rejoiced internally. Luckily Amos was not aware of her condition. Otherwise, he would be even more heartbroken.
Thinking of this, Eudora softened her tone.
âAlthough the company is your priority, your health is also very important. Donât worry about Clint. He has been by your side for so many years, everything will be fine. You could take over once youâve recovered, alright?â
âAlright!â Amos nodded. âWhat about you? How was your trip to your fatherâs this morning?â
âOh! Dadâs doing fine. Heâs good living on his own, only, he wants to go to a nursing home now. He said that it would be livelier there. I agree, it can get boring living alone.â
Amos was shocked and he asked, âDid your father really say that?â
âYeah! Heâs quite optimistic about it. Itâs good! Heâll have new friends. Heâll be happierâ¦â
Before she could finish, Amos reached out and pulled her into his arms for a hug.
When Eudora was on her way back to the hospital, Charlie had sent him a message to inform that Eudora and Gordon were discussing on going to a nursing home.
She already knew that she was going to leave him. Was she planning to send her father away too?
Was he that useless in her heart? Did she not trust him to take care of her father?
âWhatâs wrong?â Eudora asked suspiciously, âDid I say that I shouldnât have?â
âNope,â Amos said.
âGreat! Dad will have his own life, I think it will be great.â
Cindy brought lunch over soon after. After they finished their meals, Amos held Eudora while he took a nap.
Eudora didnât feel tired at first, but Amos hugging her made her somewhat sleepy. She eventually fell into deep slumber too.
This was probably the best sleep she had in such a long time.
On the other hand, she had accepted the fact that she had only a few months left to live. Now, she had also had everything settled for her father.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan and she felt at ease.
She just wanted to spend the time she had left with Amos.
â¦
After Eudora fell asleep, Amos called the doctors and nurses in the hospital to run some tests on her.
The results were the same as what Doctor Chilton had said earlier. She was incurable!
Fortunately, the poison hadnât spread through her whole body yet.
However, Amos didnât feel relieved at all.
He only felt that the heavens were too unfair. Eudora had been hurt too many times. She didnât deserve all this pain.
After the doctors left, Amos lay back down on the bed and held Eudora tightly in his arms. No one could take her away, not even God. He wouldnât allow that.
He didnât want Eudora to be taken away, never!
If God wanted to block his way, he would kill God.
He refused to believe that they couldnât change fate with society being so advanced!
â¦
It was already very late when Eudora woke up. She felt her fingers tightly held by a big hand before she could open her eyes.
She turned around, only to see Amosâ deep and serene eyes staring at her dreamily.
He froze, and it was obvious he had been looking at her for a long time.
âAmos?â
Eudora called out in confusion. The next second, Amos smiled at her.
âYouâre awake?â
âDid you not sleep? Why were you looking at me? Do I look ugly?â
Eudora realized that she had gained some weight after getting pregnant. Furthermore, she had undergone intensive treatment to control her condition, so her figure was certainly not as good as it was before.
She had hoped that she could leave when she was still in her best shape, but now, she feared that it would be an impossible feat. Forget it!
As long as Sugar Bun was safe, nothing else mattered to her.
At most, in the next life, she would spend more time chasing after Amos. He had always been so arrogant, so it wouldnât hurt to go after him.
âNo!â Amos shook his head. âEven the brightest star canât compare to you!â
Eudora was surprised. Only then did she realize that Amos was coaxing her.
Even the brightest star couldnât compare. He had said it so well.
âIâll believe you for the time being!â Eudora was extra giddy after hearing that.
Since she had slept for hours during the day, Eudora was not feeling tired at all. After dinner, she took out her iPad and tried to find information about nursing homes nearby.
Amos saw this, but he didnât say anything.
After searching for the whole night, Eudora didnât find any that she was satisfied with. As her ill father might be staying there for a long time in the future, she didnât trust any of these nursing homes enough to be able to take good care of her father.
It wasnât until late at night that Amos finally took the iPad away and said, âIâm tired. Letâs sleep!â
He knew the best way to persuade her now. Knowing that she cared about him very much, he implied that he was sleepy rather than asking her to rest.
Eudora acquiesced and lay down obediently to sleep.
Once he was sure that Eudora had fallen asleep, Amos then gave Clint a call.
â¦
Ever since he had been forced to have lunch twice with Anya under Amosâ arrangement, Clint realized that Anya wasnât that unlikable after all.
Especially today.
When he got off work, he found Anya wiping her tears in an alley outside the company. She then told him that it was the anniversary of her husbandâs death.
He didnât know how to comfort her, so he invited her to have dinner together.
As it wasnât arranged by Amos this time, the two of them were more relaxed around each other. Moreover, he thought Anya looked much more beautiful now than she was during the daytime.
Thinking of this, Clint couldnât seem to fall asleep despite already laying in bed.
He hesitated whether or not to send a text to Anya. After struggling internally for a while, he finally did.
âAre you home?â
After sending the message successfully, Clint lay there, desperately waiting for a reply. However, just as he was about to check his phone, a phone call came in.
Clint cursed in his heart.
âIf youâre calling for nothing important, Iâll beat the sh*t out of youâ¦â
The other side of the call was silent for half a second. âDo you have a problem with me?â
Clint was flabbergasted.
It was Amos! Oh no, stupid him. Of course, only his boss would call him this late at night! After all, his boss did rely on him that much.
Clint snorted and said, âNo, sorry. I mean, I just remembered that I still have some work left. I was planning to review it.â
