The couples, who were being lovey-dovey just a moment ago, were all stunned.
Thea got up quickly and rushed to the bathroom.
Harley got up and instinctively thought of going after her. However, when he saw that she had gone into the female bathroom, he couldnât do anything but stand in the same spot.
Eudora got up quickly and went after Thea.
Harley then took a look around the room, âYouâre showing off too much of your affection. You have pissed her off so much that she vomited.â
Christopher was speechless.
Amosâs eyes dimmed. It seemed that he had thought of something.
â¦
In the bathroom, Thea felt a little better after vomiting. Eudora handed her some purified water, âHere, rinse your mouth.â
âThank you,â Thea took the cup.
Once color returned to her cheeks, Eudora looked at her suspiciously and asked, âAre you pregnant?â
Theaâs face turned pale.
âI⦠â
âItâs okay. Itâs fine if you donât want to talk about it,â Eudora said.
Pregnancy was not something to be ashamed of, but Thea was still unmarried after all. She could understand if Thea didnât want to talk about it.
However, Thea didnât have many friends. She had been holding this matter to herself for too long and she needed to have this burden lifted off her chest. Now that Eudora had brought it up, she nodded instantly, âYes, itâs been more than two months.â
âAreâ¦â Eudora pursed her lips. âAre you planning to keep the child then?â
Since Thea trusted her so much and decided to confide in her, Eudora only wanted the best for her.
Thea nodded immediately, âOf course, I wonât abandon my child.â
Eudora knew her familyâs background, hence she wasnât surprised by her decision.
âWhatâs wrong with Harley? Youâre pregnant yet heâs still arguing with you. Iâll talk to him!â
Eudora knew that Harley and Thea were once a couple, but they had suddenly broken up for some reason. To her, Thea had always been a conservative young lady, so she thought that it was Harley who had gotten her pregnant.
Theaâs face became paler upon hearing Harleyâs name. She stopped Eudora, âNo, donât tell him. Itâs not hisâ¦â
Eudora was stunned and she didnât know what to say.
The two of them were silent for a while. Suddenly, Thea looked at Eudoraâs belly again, asking, âIs your child doing alright?â
âAll is good!â Eudora answered.
âWhat about you?â
âIâ¦â Thea smiled faintly, âIâm doing not too bad either. Could you promise me that you wouldnât tell anyone about this?â
Eudora pursed her lips and advised, âOkay! But I must say this, itâs hard for a single woman to raise a child all on her own. Itâs not only hard on herself, but it will also have bad effects on the childâs personality in the future. Look at my Juju, I think that sheâs too tough and domineering. Honestly, sheâs only a little girl. She should be acting like a spoiled kid at this age, but sheâs tougher than some grown-ups I know. Thatâs because she didnât have a father when she was born.â
Thea stroked her lower abdomen subconsciously and responded, âI know.â
How could she not know? She was regarded as an illegitimate daughter herself. Her peers would mock her and bully her since she was young.
âPromise me that you would think this through. Donât hesitate to come to me if you need to speak to someone. After all, I did go through the same thingâ¦â
âThank you, Eudora!â
After that, they got up and went back to the room.
The atmosphere in the room was significantly affected because of this incident. The gathering ended hastily.
Christopher and Tina were not a fan of staying out late. They would usually stay at home when they have free time to spare. Therefore, they went home after the gathering.
Eudora noticed that Thea did not drive to dinner, hence she offered, âShall I send you back?â
Thea glanced at Amos and shook her head, refusing, âItâs okay. I live nearby. I could just walk home.â
Eudora knew that Thea stayed nearby and she reminded her to be careful. Then, she got into the car and left.
Eudora seemed to have remembered something abruptly after leaving. She asked, âWhere is Harley? I donât recall seeing him leave.â
Amos remained inscrutable. He muttered, âHe has some business to attend to.â
â¦
Thea did not come to her senses until Eudoraâs car had finally disappeared from her sight. Then, she walked back to her place slowly.
Her phone rang all of a sudden, and she took a peek at the screen. It was the man with whom she had a blind date not long ago.
No one from her family cared about her. However, it seemed that her family had suddenly realized she had grown up. In other words, she had become a person whom they could exploit for their own benefits.
Therefore, they arranged a blind date for her.
Finley came from a wealthy family in Rosaville City. The Stewart family said that they were well-matched in terms of family background, and both of the families could help each other out in the future.
Thea certainly didnât like the idea, but at this moment, she thought of what Eudora said.
She had been rejecting Finleyâs advances since the very beginning. However, he was so persistent that she started to consider telling him the state that she was currently in. If Finley could accept it, then, she could find a stable home for her child.
Even though Thea felt it would be impossible.
Nonetheless, she still decided to do so.
She picked up the phone.
Finley was still as enthusiastic as he was usually. He asked, âIs this Miss Stewart? Hi, Miss Stewart, are you free today? Shall we meet for coffee?â
Then she pursed her lips and made up her mind.
âOkay. I have something to tell you too. Why donât we meet up somewhere?â
Finley was overjoyed and he immediately set a location. After that, Thea hung up the phone and hailed a taxi.
However, she felt a little nauseous before the taxi arrived. She held onto the trash can on the roadside and retched.
â¦
Harley noticed how sickly Thea looked. Although he knew that it had nothing to do with him, he still couldnât help but follow after her.
As soon as he came out from the building, he saw her leaning over the trash can and vomiting all over the place.
Her thin clothes looked as though it was supported by bulging bones. She looked like a walking skeleton.
The trash cans along the road were so dirty and smelly that they could make most passers-by retch. Wouldnât she feel even more ill breathing in such a disgusting smell?
Seeing her skinny body that was about to fall into the trash can, Harley finally couldnât help but come forward and grab her arm.
âAre you okay? Let me take you to the hospital.â
His sharp gaze seemed to have penetrated her heart in an instant. Thea flinched subconsciously and took a step back.
âIâm fine, I donât need your help!â
With that, she stood on the side of the road again, ready to hail a taxi.
Harley looked at her half-exposed neck. He felt a little furious for some reason.
âWhereâs your man? Didnât you say that he didnât work in that industry anymore? Why isnât he staying with you when youâre so sick?â
