Both Juju and Auntie Valerie were nowhere in sight when they got home. Amos dragged Eudora into their room straight away and began to unbutton her pants.
Eudora was bereft of speech, breathing heavily as she let him go on with his administrations.
She grabbed hold of his hands and teased, âYou donât have to be in such a hurry, do you?â
Amos frowned, ignoring her. Eventually, he managed to strip off her pants.
Eudoraâs heart was thundering in her chest. She was really torn. She thought about what Wesley had said the other day and figured that both she and Amos deserved a chance to try things out.
Her heart raced faster, her cheeks flushing at the thought of what was about to happen.
She closed her eyes, hoping that it will calm herself down.
However, she realized that Amos had paused. Sensing no further movement from him, she blinked her eyes open and saw that he was staring worriedly at the wound on her leg.
Eudora was taken aback and she asked, âAre you going to stare at it all day long?â
âWell, what else am I supposed to do? You told me that you were fine, but it doesnât look fine at all! Your leg might even be fractured!â Amos fussed, furrowing his brows, feeling rather annoyed.
Eudora shook her head and reassured, âIâm fineâ¦â
Amos pinched her legs in spite.
âOuch! That hurtsâ¦â She yelped, getting caught off guard by it.
Everyone outside acted as though they did not hear any noises coming from the room and trying to make themselves seem invisible. They knew that President Granger hadnât seen Miss George for quite some time, but it sounded like he was being a bit too aggressive in thereâ¦
â¦
In the room, Eudora covered the wound on her leg as her eyes brimmed with tears.
âWhy are you so mean? That hurts!â
âOh, does it finally hurt now?! Why didnât you tell me that it hurts just now?â
However, he turned away and brought over a first aid kit despite his harsh tone.
Eudora held onto the hem of her shirt, feeling slightly berated, âI was trying to save Wesleyâs life, you know. He was in dangerâ¦â
âI was right next to Wesley. Did you think that I wouldnât be able to save him?â
Eudora felt helpless. She knew that she was unable to defend herself against Amos on this. All she could do now was to apologize, âFine, Iâll admit that I was wrong. Are you happy now?â
âWhere do you think that youâve done wrong?â Amos asked.
Eudora looked at him, dumbfounded.
She had no idea what the answer to that question was.
âI⦠I shouldnât have stolen your spotlight and saved Wesley before you could. It shouldâve been you, not me. He wouldâve been happier if you were the one who did it, maybe,â Eudora responded sarcastically.
Amos rubbed at his temples. He really couldnât handle this woman.
Eudora had become brighter and much more bubbly after losing her memory. However, there were times when she would act too recklessly, and she seemed rather thick in the head.
She didnât understand where his concern was coming from anymore.
In anger, Amos unwittingly gave her injured leg a tight slap and explained, âI wasnât trying to stop you from saving Wesleyâs life, okay? I was just worried about your safety! You need to learn to protect yourself before you try to help others!â
Eudora nodded.
When Amos was done applying the ointment on her wound, he still felt a little anxious and began to speak, âI still think that you should pay a visit to the doctor and get an X-ray scan to check whether if youâve got any fractures.â
âThatâs so unnecessary! Look, Iâm well aware of my own injuries. Iâm really fine! If you donât trust me, Iâll show youâ¦â
She started to get up so she could hop around to prove herself. However, before her feet could even touch the ground, Amos held her back.
âIâve just bandaged it, stop moving!â
Eudora had no choice but to sit back down. After a while, she turned her head carefully towards him and merely stared at him.
âUm⦠Iâ¦â
âNo!â Amos refused without hesitation. He wasnât going to let this woman walk about with a wound like that!
Eudora was lost for words.
âWhat? Couldnât I even ask for a glass of water now?â
Amos knocked on her head lightly with his knuckles and teased, âSilly girl, what do you think?â
Once they heard about the incident, Auntie Valerie and Juju rushed home as fast as they could. When they got in, they saw Eudora sitting on the sofa, demanding all sorts of things. âI want some fruits!â
âGet me some water!â
âHey, I want someâ¦â
Beside her was a very busy Amos. He was walking back and forth, attending to all her needs without any complaints.
Auntie Valerieâs smile widened at the sight. She couldnât contain her happiness.
There was finally some warmth restored in this household.
Since Eudora had injured herself, she was forced to rest at home by Amos for a couple more days. Eventually, not only Amos, but both Juju and Auntie Valerie were constantly at her beck and call at home.
She had totally become a sluggard that did nothing in most of her days.
After staying at home for three days, Eudora was feeling very cooped up. Therefore, once Amos finally left, she took the opportunity to go on a shopping spree with Thea and Tina.
Ever since Tina had gotten back from Greene City, she still felt the need to disguise herself whenever she was out in the public. Sheâd wear a mask and a hat to cover herself up so that she wouldnât be recognized.
When she saw Eudora, she sprinted towards her stealthily.
âWhy are we meeting in such an open space? Letâs find a private room somewhere to relax in.â
Eudora hummed in agreement.
After they found a suitable spot, they sat together alone for a long while before Thea finally arrived. It was nice that they were now drinking tea together instead of chugging alcohol.
Eudora complied easily.
After sipping on their tea and some conversation, the three went to the mall to shop for clothes. Eudora had just bought a few not too long ago, so she didnât buy much.
She followed Thea and Tina while they shopped like crazy. One kept looking at menâs attires while the other kept looking at childrenâs clothing.
Eudora turned her gaze towards Thea when she noticed the latter. Feeling rather puzzled, she asked, âYou know, it makes sense for Tina to be buying menâs clothing. After all, sheâs head over heels for her boyfriend at the moment. But why are you buying all these baby clothes? Are you pregnant, Thea?â
Eudora did not mean any harm. However, she didnât expect to see her friendâs face darkening so fast at her implication.
âNo, Iâm not. Stop speaking nonsense. Iâm just buying a gift for my sister-in-law. Sheâs the one whoâs pregnant!â Thea answered hurriedly.
âOh,â Eudora said. Tina, who was next to her asked, âSince when have you made your peace with her?â
Thea responded vaguely, âWell, weâve already been on good terms with each other for some time nowâ¦â
â¦
Meanwhile, in the coffee shop located below the mallâ¦
Harley and Amos were drinking tea. After taking a few sips, Harley began to complain, âWhy donât we go to a bar? A coffee shop? Really?â
âIt helps to re-energize your mind,â Amos replied impassively with a blank face, âNonsense! Why would I need that? Iâm not on assignment right now.â
Amos hesitated briefly and eventually admitted, âMy wife is injured, so I just donât feel like drinking.â He looked at Harley begrudgingly, as though he was blaming Harleyâs annoying pester.
Harley was taken aback by the news.
He couldnât believe Amos was showing off his affection to his wife, and it was alarmingly disgusting.
Harley decided not to speak with this crazy man any further. He raised a hand and called for a waiter and ordered, âIâd like to have twenty cups of coffee, please! Letâs see if I could get drunk off caffeine!â
The waiter stared at him, baffled. Amos waved his hand in disregard and told the waiter, âJust ignore him.â
When the waiter left, Amos then turned to Harley and inquired, âDidnât I ask you to keep an eye on the situation here when Iâm away? Howâs it going?â
Harley threw himself onto the sofa, and replied monotonously, âI donât know.â
Amos looked at him for a while in silence.
He could tell that Harley wasnât in the mood to answer any of his questions today, âWhat is it? Come on, tell me whatâs up. Have you not resolved your problems with Thea yet?â
Suddenly, the man sprang onto his feet and yelled, âDonât even mention that woman! Iâll start a fight with anyone else that dares to even breathe her name in my presence!â
