Amosâ heart sank. He ran two steps forward and held Eudoraâs hand.
âWhat did you say?â
Eudora smiled. Her face was slightly pale, and her head was wrapped with bandages.
âI said, why didnât you turn on the lights? Are you trying to save on electricity? When did you become so thrifty?â
Amos and Christopher looked at each other and saw the concern in their eyes.
âIâll get the doctor,â Christopher said.
When Christopher left, Amos stretched his hand out and waved in front of Eudora, âCan you see anything?â
Eudora smiled again, âStop joking around. How could I see anything when the lights are not even switched on? The curtains are drawn as wellâ¦â
Amosâ heart sank slightly, âIâm sorry. Itâs my fault. I failed to protect you. You got hurt again this time.â
At this moment, Eudora seemed to remember what had happened to her at the construction site. She could not help but feel a slight headache.
The next second, she felt Amosâ hand caressing the gauze on her forehead. He was so careful as though she was a vase that would break at any time.
Eudora quickly took hold of his hand and forced a smile, âIâm fine, am I? Besides, you have other matters to attend to.
She seemed to recall the important meeting that Amos had to attend earlier that day.
âHow was the meeting of the board of directors today?â
Amos said, âIt went smoothly!â
At this moment, Christopher had brought the doctor to the ward. He informed the doctor about his concern, so as soon as the doctor went into the room, he went over and gave Eudora a check-up.
He checked her eyes, and then he looked at the scans from Eudoraâs concussion. The doctor asked to speak to Amos.
âPresident Granger, letâs talk outside.â
Eudora could tell that something was amiss. When she heard the doctorâs concerning words, she asked, âYou didnât really turn off the lights, right? Am I blind?â
The doctor frowned and looked at Amos.
âThisâ¦â
Amos knew he couldnât hide anything from her, so he nodded, âJust say it.â
The doctor explained, âIt is not very serious. There is no problem with her eyes. It should be short-term blindness caused by the concussion. Her vision should return after the blood clot in her brain had dissolved. However, we still need to observe her condition carefully. It would be better for her to stay in the hospital for the time being.â
âAlright, please make the necessary arrangements then, doctor.â
After seeing the doctor off, Christopher comforted her, âEudora, donât worry, everything will be fine!â
Eudora smiled wryly, âIâm not worried. Didnât you hear the doctor earlier? He said that I will be fine in due time. You guys donât have to worry about me too.â
Seeing that she was so strong-willed, Christopher finally felt relieved.
âIâll take my leave first then. Iâll visit you tomorrow.â
âItâs okay. Youâre so busy with work! Donât worry about it.â
After Christopher left, Eudora told Amos, âYou too. You have just taken over the company. You should be very busy, right? You donât have to worry about me. Isnât Aunt Valerie at home? And the bodyguards you just hired, they could take care of meâ¦â
Before she could even finish her words, Amos had already grabbed her hand, âIâm sorry. I let you get hurt again.â
Eudora paused, âItâs not your faultâ¦â
âYouâre my woman. It is my responsibility.â
Eudora was annoyed, but when she sensed his tone, she couldnât help curling her lips into a smile.
âArenât you a sweet-talker? How are you going to compensate me then?â
âHow shall I do that?â
Eudora rolled her eyes in mischief. Although she couldnât see, her eyes were still so bright, just like obsidian.
âYou have to be my eyes thenâ¦â
âSure!â Amos reached out and rubbed her hair.
At this moment, his cell phone rang. It was Clint Zuckerberg. When it was connected, Clint began to report updates of the meeting after Amos left.
âThe board of directors wishes to have the wills notarized. The other party has agreed to it too. It is up to you now, President Granger.â
Amos paused for a moment, âOkay, let them do whatever they want. Also, I need to take some time off. When the notary is completed, tell Steven that he will be the Acting President for the time being. Weâll talk about it once I come back.â
Clint was stunned, âPresident Granger, itâs not wise for you to take time off from the company at such a crucial moment. Did something happen to Miss George? Is it serious?â
âShe has lost her sight. I have to take care of her.â
Amos spoke without hesitation, âJust tell the board of directors what I had said.â
Clint nodded, âI see.â
After hanging up the phone, Eudora said, âI was kidding. I donât need you to take care of me.â
Amos held her hand tightly. The next second, he kissed her eyelids gently, âI want to take care of you!â
Eudora frowned, âAre you hiding something from me? Did something happen to the company? Who were you talking about just now?â
She pestered again and again. Amos sighed and said, âWhen did you become a busybody?â
Eudora was speechless.
âAre you annoyed at me?â
âI dare not. Iâm just very grateful.â
Eudora glanced at him, but she couldnât seem to focus her eyes. Amos frowned and lowered his head to kiss her again, âAre you afraid?â
Eudora was stunned, a strange feeling suddenly welled up in her heart.
She was indeed still a little afraid. She was fine before, but now she couldnât see. If it were anyone else, they would be scared too.
However, there were too many things going on in the Granger family recently. She did not want her own matters to cause any trouble for Amos. Therefore, she forced a smile and told herself that it was okay and that she was not afraid.
However, now that Amos had asked her so, her nerves started to unravel.
âAmosâ¦â
âIâm here!â Amos reached out and pulled her into his arms, âDonât be afraid.â
Amos moved into the hospital after that. When he was packing, Eudora was still joking, âPresident Granger, you are now my eyes. You must protect yourself too! Otherwise, we will be in deep trouble.â
Amos laughed, âYouâre so naughty.â
Steven dropped by the ward later that night.
He brought Kesha with him, as though nothing had happened earlier that morning. As soon as he entered the ward, his expression was filled with worry.
âEudora, are you alright?â
Amos said flatly, âCanât you see? She has lost her sight, so you will be in charge of the companyâs affairs now!â
Steven seemed to be very worried, âAmos, do you trust us?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âIâm talking about the will. I was also shocked when Aunt Bethany took the other will out all of a sudden. I didnât expect that Uncle would make a will again before passing away. I never wanted things to become like this. If I had known about this, I would definitely not go to the meetingâ¦â
Eudoraâs face turned stiff. What was he talking about? Didnât Amos say that everything was fine?
Amos silently held her hand when he saw her expression, as though he was giving her courage. Eudora felt a little relieved, and then, she felt a gush of cold air as though someone was fanning something in front of her.
It came with a sweet and floral aroma. Eudora frowned almost instantly and asked, âKesha, what are you doing?â
