Eudora George was tired. She had a lot of work to do the next day, so she nodded.
In the end, Amos Granger picked her up and placed her on the sofa, âGo to sleep.â
The next morning, Harley Louis brought the newest piece of evidence to him.
âAmos, youâre right. We checked the personâs phone log yesterday and saw that he had communicated with Harry countless times.â
Amos took the papers from him. It was filled with phone records. By the look of it, it was a solid case.
âIâve cleared it with the superiors. Iâll take some people with me and head over to the Granger family to arrest Harry later.â
Eudora was delighted. She would be even happier if the Old Master were to wake up at this moment.
After Harley left, Eudora noticed that Amos was staring at the Old Master.
âWhatâs wrong?â Eudora asked.
Amos shook his head and said, âIt feels a bit weird that everything has been going our way so far.â
Eudora pursed her lips, âIt hasnât! Uncle Harry is a very sly person.â
Amos nodded and said, âIâm sorry that you had to go through so much. When this is over, why donât you move to Clearwater Bay with Juju? Things are better there.â
Eudora shook her head, âIt is more peaceful there, but thereâs still something missing!â
Amos looked at her suspiciously and said, âIâll have someone to furnish it.â
Eudora shook her head, âItâs not something that other people could fix, because that place is missing you.â
Amos felt touched. This woman certainly knew how to say some sweet words.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and said seriously, âYou are not allowed to speak like that in the future.â
Eudora raised her eyebrows, âAre you angry? Iâm flirting with you, but it seemed that itâs not working well.â
Amos flashed a wry smile and said, âIt worked. It worked very well indeed.â
It worked, and that was why he couldnât let her speak like that anymore. What if she said that to someone else? She would always be his and his only.
The two of them cuddled for a bit more. Soon, Eudora looked at her watch and realized that it was already 10 a. m.
Finding it odd, she said, âWhy hasnât anyone come to visit today?â
Normally, even if Bethany Hamilton had gone back to rest, she wouldâve visited the Old Master as early as she could the next day. So, why wasnât she here yet?
âDid you not tell them that you had changed the room?â Eudora asked.
Amos shook his head, âEven if I didnât tell them, the nurses wouldâve.â
After she mentioned this, Amos also felt that something was amiss. He took out his phone and was about to dial a number.
However, before he could, the phone rang. Harleyâs anxious voice came from the speaker, â Amos, somethingâs wrong. Your Uncleâs dead!â
Amos was stunned, âHeâs dead? Whatâs going on?â
Harley sighed, âWe havenât gotten the details yet. Based on what we have now, it looks like suicide. There were the Old Masterâs anticancer drugs in his drink; a mixture of the two is fatal. Your Aunt did the same as he did, but sheâs at the hospital now. Thereâs still hope for her. Theyâre still trying to resuscitate her at the hospital.â
Harley paused for a moment.
âYour Uncle probably knew that he had been exposed, so he tried to kill himself. Weâll get to the bottom of this, so donât you worry about it.â
âAlright!â Amos hung up.
Eudora had heard bits and pieces of their conversation. She quickly asked, âWhat happened?â
âHarryâs dead. They think that he had committed suicide out of fear.â
âWhat?â Eudora was also very shocked. She never thought of Harry Granger as someone who would give up so easily. He looked like the type who would rather fight until the end than to give up halfway.
While they were talking, a nurse came in to check on the Old Master. Suddenly, she asked, âWhy is the patient crying?â
Eudora was stunned. She followed the nurseâs gaze and saw that the Old Master was really crying.
âOld Master!â Eudora shouted.
âGet a doctor!â Amos barked.
The nurse ran out of the room immediately. The Old Masterâs eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes. At the same time, a tear slipped out from the corner of his eyes.
Eudora felt a burst of excitement in her heart, âOld Master, are you really awake?â
The old man didnât reply, instead, he muttered, âHarry!â
Eudoraâs heart skipped a beat. She suddenly realized that the only reason he was awake was that he had overheard their conversation earlier.
âCalm down. Letâs have the doctor examine you first.â
However, the old man refused. He raised his hand with much difficulty and pulled the needle from his hand, âHarry!â
Amos frowned, âDo you want to see him?â
Old Master Granger nodded as the doctor entered. Amos said, âLet the doctor have a look at you first. Weâll go if he says that youâre fine.â
Upon hearing this, Old Master Granger settled down and let the doctor examine him. While the doctor was doing this, tears continued to stream down his face.
Harry might be a heinous and evil guy in other peopleâs eyes, but to the old man, he was still his younger brother.
Although the Old Master always appeared cold and distant, deep down, he yearned for affection. Otherwise, he wouldnât have forgiven Harry and allowed him to stay in the house after everything that he had done.
That was why Eudora could empathize with him.
The doctor soon finished the examination, but there was a distressed look on his face, âThe Old Masterâs body has been badly hurt. You should all be mentally prepared.â
Amosâs face darkened, âTreat him then!â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Granger.â
Eudora grabbed Amosâ hand and said, âDonât.â
She then turned to look back at the doctor, âCould he be discharged?â
The doctor nodded and said, âYes, itâs better if he spends this time with his family at home, fulfilling his ambitionsâ¦â
The doctor didnât dare to continue when he saw the look on Amosâ face. It was so dark and cold that the air in the whole room seemed to be frozen in a second.
After saying a few more words, the doctor fled with the nurse.
Only then did Eudora hold Amos and pat him on the back.
âAmos, itâs okay. Weâre all still here. Everything will be alright.â
Amos stood still for a long time. After a few minutes, he walked over to help Old Master to change.
While he was doing this, Eudora seized the chance to settle his discharge papers. When she came back, she saw Amos standing behind the bed, helping the Old Master put on his jacket.
The Old Master spread his arms apart as Amos put the jacket on him.
Amos was very clumsy but yet, the Old Master didnât get mad. He just stood there patiently.
The pair looked very calm.
The atmosphere in the room was very emotional and Eudora could feel her eyes starting to water. Every human would have to leave this world eventually.
However, now that it was happening right in front of her, she wished that she could make time slow down.
While she was immersed in her thoughts, Amos had finished helping the old man get dressed. Eudora opened the door for them and said, âAlright, itâs time for us to leave.â
