Eudora George wound down the window and popped her head outside once Harley Louis left.
After making sure that they had sealed all the exits, Harley then tapped on the door gently.
However, there was no response even after a long while. Harley turned around and shook his head, signalling that there was no one at home.
Eudora frowned. At the same time, from the corner of her eyes, she saw someone walking out with a bag in her hands.
She looked extremely familiar. Hey, wasnât that the servant who had looked for her that morning?
Eudora quickly nudged Amos.
Amos Granger immediately understood. Before she could even say anything, he had already jumped out of the car.
The girl could tell that something was off. Sensing that danger was approaching, she immediately turned around and tried to flee the scene.
However, how could someone like her outrun a man like Amos? Soon enough, Amos caught up with her and he grabbed onto her sleeve.
Harley and his men also noticed her running away, so they quickly chased after her and helped Amos apprehend her.
Yet, she still tried to play dumb, âWhat did I do? Why are you arresting me?â
Harley snorted and said, âCut the cr*p. Youâll find out once weâre at the station.â
The woman still refused to give up, âI donât even know you. What makes you think that Iâll go with you?â
Eudora then leaped out of the car. Amos hurried over to support her as she walked.
âWhy did you come out?â
Eudora shook her head and turned to look at the girl.
âZena, do you remember me?â
The look in Zenaâs eyes changed for a second, and then, she shook her head, âI donât know who you are.â
Eudora frowned, âYou told me to go to the Old Masterâs room that morning. Why did you do that?â
Zena still refused to admit that it was her and she continued to play dumb, âI donât know what youâre talking about. Iâve never been to the Granger family home. Are you trying to frame me?â
Harley threw the pile of evidence on the floor in front of her, âYou claim that youâve never been there, so why did we find your hair in the Granger familyâs car? Are you implying that your hair could walk on its own?â
Zena finally went silent, but she still refused to admit anything.
Harley had no choice but to take her back to the station.
After they left, Amos headed back to the office to settle some work. Eudora, on the other hand, went to the hospital to help Bethany. After all, she had been in the hospital for the past two days. Since she had some free time, Eudora wanted to help.
Amos didnât object. He dropped her off at the hospital entrance.
âCall me if you need anything.â
He then drove off.
Eudora headed for the ward right away. When she arrived, she saw Bethany wiping the Old Masterâs body. Eudora felt a little embarrassed to walk into the room right away, so she waited outside for a bit.
The door to the ward wasnât closed properly, so she could hear Bethany talking to the Old Master.
âWho knew that weâd end up together.â
The old man didnât say a word but Bethany continued.
âYou always say that we met for the first time during our wedding. Well, you may not know this, but I saw you long before that. Remember the time when you attended a wedding with your friends? Someone actually ridiculed me that day, but you stood up for me. Not only that, but you also told me that I had to be strong so that no one else could bully me. I still remember your words until this day.â
Eudora raised her eyebrows, Were the Old Master and Bethany really meant to be?
âDo you know how ecstatic I was when I found out that I was marrying you? I was so happy that I couldnât sleep for a few nights. I even wondered if you were excited too, knowing that you were going to marry me. There were times when I convinced myself that you had it all arranged.â
As she said this, Bethany suddenly smiled, âI was so naive back then. The world is never that kind.â
Sighing, she continued, âSure enough, it all turned out to be just a dreamâ¦â
Eudora pieced Amos and Bethanyâs story together. When she put two and two together, she too, sighed.
Fate had a way of twisting and playing with relationships. No one could ever tell who was the one to end up with. However, despite all the twists and turns, they still ended up together.
Eudora didnât notice a nurse approaching from behind her as she was too immersed in her thoughts.
She only realized that the nurse was there when the nurse greeted her, âMiss, are you here to visit someone?â
Only then did Eudora come to her senses, âOh, yes.â
Bethany walked over and opened the door, âEudora, youâre here!â
âAhâ¦â That was awkward. She didnât know if Bethany knew that she had eavesdropped on her conversation. Thinking about it, she thought sheâd better explain herself.
âI saw that you were busy wiping for the Old Master, so I didnât go in.â
âItâs alright. You can come in now.â
Thankfully, Bethany was not offended. Eudora then wheeled herself into the room.
Eudora saw a bouquet of lilies on the table. She inhaled deeply and breathed in its fragrant scent.
Not only that, even the tablecloth on the bedside table had been carefully replaced with a simple checkered one. At one glance, it looked like an apartment but not a sickroom.
Eudora couldnât help but gasp, âWow, youâve decorated the room well.â
Bethany smiled shyly, âI have nothing else to do, so I just decorate to pass some time. After all, heâs used to a more exquisite lifestyle.â
This must be true love!
Eudora nodded, âIt looks good! I think the Old Master would be delighted if he sees this.â
âI hope so too!â Bethany began cutting the fruit in her hand.
âHowâs everything at home? You know, weâre counting on you to look after everything.â
Eudora answered truthfully, âMy legs arenât making things any easier, so Aunt Kaylene is running the household for now.â
Upon hearing this, Bethanyâs hands stopped midair.
âKaylene is a capable person, but the Old Master wishes that Amos would eventually take charge of the household. I hope that you would take over once you recover.â
Eudora nodded.
Coincidentally, Kaylene entered the room right at that moment, âBethany, howâs the Old Master doing today?â
Bethanyâs face remained calm, âArenât you busy at home? Where did you find the time to visit?â
Kaylene quickly explained herself, âWhat are you talking about? We should still visit the Old Master regardless, shouldnât we? Harryâs busy with his amusement park project so he asked me to drop by as a proxy.â
Turning around, Kaylene spotted Eudora and asked in a hurry.
âI saw you and Amos rushing out this morning. Do you know who the culprit is?â
Both Bethany and Kaylene turned their attention to Eudora.
