Steven Granger asked hopefully, âCould you please take a look at the plans for me once Iâve finished my proposal then?â
Harry Granger immediately lost his previous cheer, âSteven, Amos is busy with other things!â
Steven stopped talking after that. Kaylene Yoder, who was sitting next to him, chipped in, âYes, Harryâs right. Amos is a very busy man. Since itâs your own project, youâd better not bother him with this.â
âAlright then!â Steven nodded.
After a moment of silence, Harry spoke again.
âBrother, weâve already got the project outline now. Itâs just the funds that are a bitâ¦â
The Old Master had already known that Harry was going to bring this matter up. He did not even raise his head, âLet Amos take a look at your proposal after youâve finalized it. If youâre asking me for funding right now, Iâm afraid that the answer is No. However, you may consider getting Valiant East to invest in your business.â
This was already a huge display of goodwill coming from the Old Master. He eventually raised his head to look at Steven in the eye.
âIf you intend to start a business, then you must do it well. I donât have much time left. I do not wish to see our family rendered into chaos on the day of my departure. Promise me that you wonât disappoint me.â
The Old Masterâs intent was obvious. This was a warning. Since theyâve decided to venture outside the family business, then they would have to do their absolute best. As long as they didnât cook up any nonsense, Valiant East would definitely help them.
Harry nodded nervously, âBrother, please rest assured! We will definitely do our best! However, I believe itâs up to Amos if Valiant East intends to investâ¦â
âThatâs settled then. Donât worry about Amos, because heâll know what to do,â the Old Master replied. With that, they started eating.
When theyâve returned to the Ruby House after dinner, Eudora George started to question Amos Granger.
âDidnât they say that they were going to fend for themselves in the beginning? Why didnât the Old Master just let them venture out themselves? Once they leave, things at home wouldnât be so complicated anymore.â
Amos chuckled, âSilly girl, do you really think that Uncle Harry would want to leave? This is his strategy.â
Looking into Amosâ teasing eyes, Eudora finally figured it out.
âAre you saying that they have never intended to leave to begin with? So they had deliberately said that they were going to start their business just to show that they did not want to rely on the family. They would then gain the Old Masterâs trust and then Valiant East, in turn, would assist them, right?
As soon as her words fell, Amos planted a kiss on her lips. âHow clever! Iâll reward you with a kiss.â
Eudora was speechless. Reward? He was clearly just taking advantage of her.
âBut if that was the case, wouldnât that mean that we have to work together again? What if they start making trouble again? That wonât end well!â
âThatâs why the Old Master had said what he said just now. He meant to warn them against that. However, he is an old man after all. I donât think that he knows that family comes second when personal interests are involved.â
Eudora frowned, âYouâd better be careful then.â
Amos was feeling a little happy when he saw the nervousness in her gaze.
âAre you worried about me?â
Eudora was indeed a little worried, but after being teased by Amos, she immediately dismissed her thoughts.
âNot at all.â
âReally?â He caressed her lips softly, âIf they were to drag me down one day, youâd better not cryâ¦â
Before he could even finish his sentence, Eudora had already seized him and kissed him on the lips.
âDonât spout nonsense.â
Amos smirked, âAlright, I wonât!â
However, Eudora couldnât help but worry, âIf you were to die, I will not stay a widow for you. Iâll forget you and find a better man. So, you have to protect yourself at all costs. Keep yourself safe, okay?â
Amos frowned, âYouâre getting quite bold, arenât you?â
Eudora was anxious. Her mind was playing back the memory of when she first saw Amos. His body was covered entirely with blood, and his face was pale as a sheet.
As if sensing Eudoraâs thoughts, Amos reached out to her and pulled her into an embrace. He let her rest her ear against his chest.
âDo you hear that? Thatâs my heartbeat, beating very steadily. Iâll be fine!â
Having heard Amosâ steady heartbeat under her, Eudora gradually calmed down. âI- Iâll set the bath up for youâ¦â She stammered, and started to step away from Amosâ embrace.
Before she could even finish her sentence, the man had already pulled her back into his chest.
âYouâve certainly finished with your talking. But I havenâtâ¦â
Eudora was shocked. Amos had her pinned down and she could not escape from him.
As if affected by their prior discussion, his movements were rougher this time. It felt as though he wanted to mold their bodies together.
It got to a point where Eudora could not take the pain anymore. She let out a painful yelp.
Upon hearing her cry, Amos started to loosen his grip on her. He realized that he had lost his composure. However, he still refused to let go of Eudora, hugging her close to him.
It wasnât until Eudora was nodding off that Amos whispered lowly in her ear.
âI wonât die. You will forever be mine.â
This rendered Eudora speechless. Was this guy getting jealous at this time?
That night, Eudora was caught in the throes of passion several times. She was too tired to get up the next morning. She woke up in an empty room in the afternoon.
Eudora then got up hurriedly and changed her clothes. Upon seeing her, Auntie Valerie smiled, âPresident Granger has already gone to work and he dropped Juju on his way. Are you hungry? Thereâs some chicken soup in the pot. I can bring it out for you if youâd like.â
Eudora had always felt that Auntie Valerie knew too much. It made her feel a little embarrassed.
âItâs okay! Iâm not very hungry,â Eudora replied and headed back to the bedroom.
At this moment, she received word from Christopher Gellert, praising that her work was splendid. He also mentioned that there were no issues with the previous design that she had submitted. There were also no new projects in line for her so she opted to read a book on the sofa.
A while later, Auntie Valerie knocked on her door.
âEudora, Young Master Steven is looking for you.â
Eudora put down the book she was reading. Recalling her and Amosâ conversation from the night before, she felt that it was difficult for her to have a good impression on Steven. âTell him that Iâm not availableâ¦â
Before she could even finish her sentence, Stevenâs voice could already be heard from outside her door.
âOh, Iâm sorry. I shouldnât have just barged in like thisâ¦â
Eudora stayed silent. This personâ¦
She had no choice but to put her book down and head out to greet the man, âSorry, I was a little busy just now. I thought you were too!â
Steven was waiting downstairs with a box in his hands. It looked like a gift. âOh, Iâm not so busy at the moment. I just recalled that I had forgotten to give this to you guys last night, so I thought to drop it off.â
Was Steven a polite man? Eudora called Auntie Valerie over to receive the gift. âThank you, Steven! I think itâs better if you referred to me by my name instead. The Old Master was obviously upset when you referred to me as your sister-in-law.â
Steven shrugged nonchalantly, âWell, I think that Uncle is too conservative. You and Amos truly do love each other. Why does he have to care so much anyway?
âQuestions like that are better left unasked,â Eudora answered with a frown.
âI suppose!â Steven laughed as he said. âIâll address you by name then. Eudora, Iâve heard a little about what my parents had done. I want you to know that I donât agree with their actions.â
Eudora really was rendered speechless. Was he actually here out of goodwill?
