Eudora George was disappointed. She clenched her teeth and covered her wound with her hands. She closed her eyes to calm herself down.
He was no longer her hero. After her mother died, her loving father had also slowly turned into this monster whom she couldnât even recognize anymore.
Eudora took a deep breath and opened her eyes.
âTell Laura that I will do everything to make Felix sign that divorce agreement.â
With that, she turned around and left the house.
Gordon George stepped forward to chase after Eudora but he was pulled back by his other daughter.
âDad, Eudora is too much. Now that sheâs Amos Grangerâs lover, she no longer respects her own husband.â
Gordon frowned. âSheâs nothing but bad luck!â
â¦
After leaving her family home, Eudora wandered around aimlessly.
She didnât know how long she had been walking on the streets. Her phone started ringing again, but Eudora didnât have the energy to pick up the call. âWho else could it be if not her father who wanted her to go back so badly?â she thought.
But the phone kept ringing. Eudora was so annoyed that she answered the phone without even looking at the caller ID.
âI wonât go back. Donât even think about it!â Eudora yelled into the phone.
The caller was silent. Suddenly a deep masculine voice erupted from the other end, âEudora? Did someone piss you off?â
âMr⦠Mr. Granger?â Eudora was stunned and checked her screen. This was an unknown number as well, but it was a different number from before.
âWhere are you?â Amos asked.
Only then Eudora realized that the sky had already turned dark. She quickly said, âIâll come back now.â
âWhere are you now?â Amos asked again. Eudora looked around her surroundings and told him her location. Amos replied quickly, âFind a safe place and wait for me there. Iâll come and pick you up.â
After that, he hung up the phone.
Eudora looked around and noticed that the lights in one of the markets were still on. She walked over and sat on a bench by the door.
Quite a distance away, Eudora saw a young man walking towards her direction, his hand holding on to a little girl. The girl was wearing a princess outfit with a smile on her face.
When they walked past Eudora, she heard the girl whispering to the man, âDaddy, I want a big doll!â
âOkay, Daddy will buy it for you.â
âThen what about my princess bed?â
âOf course I will buy for you too, my little princess!â
The girl giggled and turned to look at the sky. âDaddy, I want the stars in the sky too. Can you help me pick them?â
The man pretended to be in a dilemma. âWell, that is quite difficult for me. What should I do?â
The little girl thought that she had put her father in a difficult situation and immediately shook her head. âThen I donât want it.â
âNow now. Close your eyes and let Daddy try!â
The little girl closed her eyes. The man looked around and noticed Eudora sitting on the bench. He walked towards Eudora, his hands holding a stack of neon-colored plastic origami.
âMiss, do you know how to fold a star?â
âOh yes!â Eudora took the origami and quickly folded a star for him. The man thanked her repeatedly, carefully holding the star in his palm as if he was protecting a treasure.
âLittle princess, open your eyes and have a look!â
âWow!â
â⦠â
As the two of them slowly walked away, Eudoraâs eyes welled up with tears.
â¦
When Amos arrived at the location Eudora gave him, he saw a woman sitting by the bench alone. When he approached her, he saw that her shoulders were trembling slightly.
He walked over and pulled her into his arms. âAre you crying?â
Eudora didnât expect Amos to reach so quickly. He wiped her tears away and shook her head. âNo, thereâs just something in my eyesâ¦â
Who did she think she was fooling? With such a poor excuse no less.
âWhere did you go this afternoon? Itâs okay if you donât want to tell me, I can still find out myself.â
Eudora muttered softly, âI was at my family home.â
Amosâ eyes darkened. âDid they bully you?â
âIâm fine!â Eudora shook her head. She didnât know why, but somehow Amosâ concerned eyes made her feel like crying even more. Her tears couldnât stop pouring.
Amos noticed the mark on her cheek and the bloodstain on her arm.
âDid they hurt you too?â He gently pulled Eudoraâs bleeding arm. âEudora, how long do you want to keep up with this pretense? Why wonât you rely on me?â
Eudora cried even harder at his words.
This was the second time that she cried in his arms. He had always been so unapproachable and scary, but somehow every time when someone hurt her, Amos would always rush to her side. She couldnât help but lower her guard around him.
âStop crying okay,â Amos said exasperatedly. âWe need to dress the wound on your arm first.â
He wiped away her tears away and carried her to his car.
Amos sped home. The moment they were in the living room, he took out his first-aid kit and carefully cleaned the wound on Eudoraâs arm.
The blood had already dried up. After cleaning up and disinfecting the area, there was a small cut across her arm and it looked a little gory.
Amos frowned. âWas it Gordon? Is he still a man?â
Eudora was stunned. âHow did you know?â
âWell⦠If thereâs anyone in this world that could make you cry so much, it must be your father. Am I right?â
Thatâs true. Eudora laughed bitterly. âDonât worry, Iâll never cry for him again in the future. Heâs not worth it!â
Amos frowned. âBut why did he ask you to go back?â
âItâs Laura,â Eudora said. âShe wants me to go back and save her son. As for my family⦠they probably think that I ruined their reputation by doing that to my husband?â
Amos narrowed his eyes. âSo it was both the George Family and the Meyer Family huh?â
âWhat do you mean?â Eudora asked subconsciously.
âNothing!â Amos replied. He then carried Eudora upstairs. âYou need to rest.â
Eudora initially felt awkward to have Amos care for her that way, but when she reached her bed, she was so exhausted that she fell asleep soon after.
After Eudora fell into a deep sleep, Amos stood up from the bed and left the room to make a phone call.
âClint, I told you to take care of the Meyer family. Whatâs the progress?â
âThere seems to be some hiccups. Felix Meyer is too shrewd. The officers couldnât find any evidence to prove his involvement. If they arenât able to find anything by tomorrow, he will be released.â
âHehâ¦â Amos sneered.
Clint Zuckerberg shuddered at his bossâ cold reply.
âWhat about the Phantom Group? Itâs been doing well these past few years. Surely thereâs something you could find there?â
Clint understood his bossâ message clearly. âNoted President Granger. I will look it up first thing tomorrow.â
âAnd!â Amos paused, âAsk Gordon George to come to my office tomorrow.â
After hanging up the phone, Amos walked back into the room and held Eudoraâs hand.
The wound on her arm stood out like a sore thumb on her perfect porcelain skin.
Amos stared at it and his eyes gradually darkened again.
âGordon George?â
Even if heâs her biological father, Amos will never allow him to bully his woman.
