In the Valiant East Group.
One of the supervisors was reporting on the daily work updates to Amos Granger in the conference room.
The Assistant Manager knocked the door and entered the room. He leaned over and whispered a few words next to Amosâ ear. Amosâ eyes darkened and he immediately got up from his seat.
âWeâll do this another time!â
âPresident⦠President Granger?â
Before the supervisor could finish his sentence, Amos had already left the conference room.
Everyone looked at each other in confusion. What would have triggered their workaholic boss to leave everything immediately and rush out the meeting like that. It was truly an unusual sight.
â¦
Eudora George trembled in fear at the sight of the psychotic man standing in front of her. âPerhaps, this is the end.â she thought to herself.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang on the door.
It wasnât a knock. It sounded like someone was pounding at the door.
Franco Horace cursed as he released Eudora from his grasp. âDamn, whoâs that?â
The door suddenly slammed open. Behind the walls, Amosâ stern face appeared. He immediately noticed Eudora was being tied to the bed and her clothes were torn everywhere.
His heart started beating wildly. At the speed of light, he swung his fist at Francoâs face.
âGrangerâ¦â Before Franco could utter another word, Amos pinned him down to the ground. Harley Louis arrived shortly after and assisted in securing Franco.
âTake him outside!â Amos turned to look at Harley.
Harley nodded. He looked at Eudora and Amos and dragged Franco out from the room.
Amos took off his coat and slowly stepped towards Eudora. He placed the coat lightly over her trembling body.
Eudora, who was still in a daze, shriveled at his touch. She screamed, âDonât touch me!â
âItâs me!â Amos pulled Eudora into his arms. âItâs Amos. Donât be afraid.â
âAmos?â Eudora raised her head, her throat dry and her lips cracked. The man looked at her solemnly. It was completely different from the mad man earlier.
âIâm here. Donât be afraid.â
She wasnât sure if it was the concerned tone in his voice, or it was just his presence, but those assuring words were just the ones she needed to hear. She started bawling as she pulled Amosâ chest closer to her. She was no longer afraid.
Amos enveloped her in his arms and soothed her as she sobbed till there were no more tears left to cry. He then carried her up and left the basement.
When Eudora woke up, it was already the next day. She looked around and realised that she was lying on a hospital bed, the wounds on her body were already dressed.
A woman in a business suit sat next to the bed. She stood up and smiled when she saw that Eudora had already woken up. âMiss George, youâre awake. Iâm Mr. Grangerâs assistant and my name is Anya Astor. Mr. Granger assigned me to attend to your needs should you require anythingâ¦â
Amosâ assistantâ¦â
The memory from yesterday flashed in her mind. If Amos hadnât shown up, then she would haveâ¦
Felix Meyer, you are too cruel.
âWhere is Mr. Granger?â
Hearing this, Anya laughed lightly. âMr. Granger postponed the meeting yesterday to save you, so he went to the company early this morning to resume the meeting. He will come over later to visit you.â
âOh!â Eudora nodded. âThen I guess Iâll just wait for him to come back!â
Anya was slightly taken aback. âIs there something I can do for you?â
Eudora didnât say anything. She laid down and closed her eyes. Soon she dozed off again.
It was already late evening when she woke up. The sky had already turned dark and the lights in the room were not switched on.
Eudora was shocked when a masculine voice suddenly erupted in the dark room. âI heard from Anya that you were waiting for me?â
Eudora sat up quickly and switched on the lights.
The man sitting on the sofa in front of her was dressed in custom-made Italian formal suit. His expression was as lazy as usual, only his deep and serene eyes were quietly looking at Eudora.
Eudora suddenly panicked when she recalled the traumatic experience and how her husband had set her up. She slowly raised her head and met his eyes again.
The man chuckled lightly at her reaction and stood up from the sofa.
âYou know, youâre really indeed one of a kind. No one else dares to look me in the eye like you do. Now tell me, why were you waiting for me?â
âThe⦠The deal you told me about. I⦠I agree to it.â Eudora stammered.
âEh?â Amos was puzzled at her sudden statement.
Eudora could feel her courage slowly slipping away. She opened her lips, but she didnât have the nerve to repeat what she just said. She closed her lips again.
âUh⦠Nothing. I want rest now.â She laid back down on the bed and tried to avoid Amosâ gaze.
âAre you taking back your words?â Amos grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms. âAre you sure you want to do this?â
The sudden gesture and the strong masculine aura of the man made Eudoraâs heart skip a beat. âMm!â She nodded her head slowly.
âCan I know the reason? Is it because youâre helping your husband to get the project?â Amos asked quietly.
âOf course not!â Eudora clenched her teeth. âI want to make him pay for what he did to me.â
Amos smiled slightly at her answer. âVery well then.â
âI do have one condition thoughâ¦?â
Amos raised his eyebrows. âAre you negotiating with me? Youâre really the first to ever do that!â
He twirled her long hair with his fingers playfully and said, âGo ahead. Tell me.â
âOur deal will last for one year. Within this one year, you may not restrict my personal freedom. In exchange I promise you that I will not do anything that will hurt you behind your back. After one year, no matter what, the deal will be called off.â
Amosâ fingers stopped. He curled his lips into a smile, âWhy do you think Iâll agree to such an unfair agreement?â
âMr. Grangerâ¦â Eudora paused. âI know that Iâm asking for too much, butâ¦â
âI agree!â Amos interrupted her. âWho knows, maybe Iâll get tired of you after a year!â
Eudoraâs heart skipped a beat. She didnât know why, but she lowered her eyes and muttered softly, âThank you, Mr. Granger.â
âYou donât have to be so polite with me. To tell the truth, I was hoping that you could settle your issues with Felix Meyer as soon as possible. Although what we have is purely transactional, I still donât like the idea of my woman getting entangled with other men.â
Eudoraâs face turned pale when she heard this. Even if Amos hadnât brought the issue up, she knew that her marriage with Felix could no longer continue.
âDonât worry. I will take care of it as soon as possible.â
âNo rush. On a side note, youâve been sleeping the whole day. Donât you want to know what happened to Franco?â
Eudora was confused when Amos clapped his hands suddenly. Harley entered the room, dragging a battered man behind him. It was Franco. And it seemed that he was beaten up quite badly.
His whole body and face was swollen. If Amos hadnât said that this man in front of them was Franco, Eudora wouldnât have been able to recognize him at all.
The moment Franco saw Amos, he fell to the ground and crawled towards him.
âMr. Granger, I know now I am wrong. Please spare this worthless life of mine.â
Amosâ eyes darkened and he reached out to hold Eudora by his side. âI think youâre begging the wrong person?â
Franco quickly climbed towards Eudora. âMiss George, Iâm terribly sorry. I didnât know that youâre Mr. Grangerâs woman. If I had known, I wouldnât have dared to touch you even the tiniest bit. Could you please ask Mr. Granger to forgive me? Please?â
