Wendy went straight back to her apartment after leaving Calebâs place.
When Auntie Agnes saw that she was back, she quickly ran up to her. âMiss, youâre finally back. Where did you go last night?â
âOh, something came up at the office. I have been busy all night long!â
Auntie Agnes nodded. âThen Iâll go and get something for you to eat!â
âNo need!â After saying that, Wendy added, âDid Amos look for me?â
âNo!â Auntie Agnes shook her head. âMr. Granger would have called you if he wanted to see you!â
âOh, right!â Wendy nodded and headed to take a shower.
After coming out, she thought through it again and decided to buy something to bring over to the Granger family.
Old Master Granger was sitting in the garden after taking his medicine. A servant came over and reported, âMiss Liam is here to see you!â
The Old Master was stunned, and then he remembered the agreement he had with Amos Granger. He shook his head and said, âTell her that Iâm still sleeping.â
Upon hearing this, the servant turned around and left.
After hearing this, Wendyâs grasp tightened at the things she brought with her. What an ungrateful old man. All her previous efforts had gone to waste!
As she was thinking about it, Wendy heard Kayleneâs voice behind her, âIs that you, Miss Liam? What are you doing here?â
Wendy was stunned and looked up at Kaylene, who was dressed up fancifully. Five years ago, when she came to the Granger family for the first time, Kaylene seemed to have taken a liking towards her.
However, after she got engaged to Amos, they no longer contacted each other.
But nowâ¦
Perhaps, she had a lifeline in the Granger family after all â Amosâ second aunt.
Thinking of this, Wendy immediately faked a smile, âAuntie, itâs been a long time since we last met!â
âYou donât say! Thatâs because you rarely come to the old house over the past few years. Iâve been wondering when we would be able to meet to catch up. Are you free today?â
Wendy nodded hurriedly and said, âYes, I am!â
âThatâs good. I was about to go shopping. Letâs go together!â
Wendy nodded and got into the car with Kaylene. When the drive started, Kaylene said, âYou seem to have lost a lot of weight recently. Whatâs going on? Is Amos not treating you well?â
âNo!â Wendy replied.
âThatâs good. You two should have been married by now. Itâs been five years. Donât you feel anxious about it?â
Wendy said lightly, âAmos is not ready yet.â
âWhat? Arenât all men the same? Listen, Iâm only telling you this because I like you; if you want to capture a manâs heart, you have to first capture his body. Look at you, you must not have done it with Amos yet, havenât you?â
Wendyâs heart skipped a beat. âNo, not yet.â
âI have something good here,â Kaylene said, blinking her eyes.
â¦
In the evening, back in the old house of the Granger family.
A family of three was sitting in the living room. Sitting at the main seat was Old Master Granger and Bethany, his first wife. She had kept a very low-profile these few years, and didnât seem to hold any presence at home as well.
At this moment, Bethany lowered her head as she served the Old Master some food.
Harry couldnât help but ask, âAmos hasnât been home for dinner in a while, hasnât he?â
The Old Master didnât say anything, but he was still hopeful in his heart. His hands immediately froze at the question.
Bethany said in a hurry, âWhat are you talking about? Amos is a very busy man. When he is free, he will definitely come back!â
âBusy with what? I saw an old colleague yesterday. I heard from him that Amos hasnât been to the office for a few days. I donât know what heâs busy with!â
Hearing this, Bethany was stunned. âIs Amos sick? Itâs my fault. I should go and see him.â
The Old Master snorted, âThatâs enough, letâs have dinner!â
But the Old Master had lost his appetite. After eating two mouthfuls, he went upstairs.
At the same time, Amosâ cell phone rang. He took a look at the number and saw that it was the landline from the Old Masterâs study. He answered the call.
The old manâs unhappy voice soon came from the other side of the line. âWhat are you busy with? You havenât been to the office for days, and you wonât come home. Are you trying to piss me off?â
Amos was confused, âI have my own plans for the company.â
âWhat plans do you have exactly? You just want to butt heads with me donât you? When Iâm finally dead, no one will force you to do anything then.â
Amos frowned. âI have no such thoughts.â
âIf thatâs not what youâre thinking, then you ought to get married and have kids for me. You ought to go back to work!â
Amos scoffed in return, âI wonât marry Wendy, and you promised me that youâll give me a year.â
âI did promise you, but what about you? I promised to give you a year, but itâs not for you to abandon the company! You either go back to work or cancel our agreement! Weigh your options and make your decision!â
After that, he hung up the phone in a huff.
Amos stood there, stunned for a while. He felt that his fatherâs temper of late was very strange. Wendy must have had something to do with it.
Wendyâ¦
Amos pursed his lips. It seemed that he had to deal with this matter as quickly as possible.
While he was still lost in his thought, a small hand suddenly reached out and grabbed him. As soon as Amos lowered his head, he saw Juju looking at him with her big round eyes.
Amosâ heart softened immediately and he said hurriedly, âAre you here to ask me to have dinner?â After thinking about it, he bent over to pick her up and started the automatic wheelchair. âLetâs go!â
In the evening, the three of them slept on the same bed as usual. Juju seemed to have gotten used to this. Only when she was surrounded by two people, she could have a complete sense of security.
The next day, at breakfast, Amosâ cell phone kept on ringing. However, he just declined and ignored all the calls.
Later, he decided to turn his phone off.
Seeing this, Eudora asked, âIs there anything wrong at the office? You should go ahead! Iâll look after Juju.â
When Juju heard that he was going to leave, she quickly came down from the chair and pulled at Amosâ sleeves. She looked at him with her pleading eyes, which was enough to melt anyoneâs heart!
âItâs alright.â After saying that, Amos held Juju in his arms, âJuju, what do you want to eat? Why donât you have an egg?â
Eudora pursed her lips. After the meal, she said, âWeâve already troubled you so much, why donât we go to the office with you?â
Amos was taken aback to hear this and he looked at Eudora in disbelief.
âEither ways, I have to go to work too. I want to finish that project as soon as possible. This way, you will be at ease, which will make me at ease as well.â
She hadnât gone to work for the past three days ever since her first day at Valiant East.
She was afraid that Amos would not agree, so she hurriedly asked Juju, âWhat do you think, Juju?â
Juju must have understood their conversation. She nodded immediately, and Eudora breathed a sigh of relief.
However, Amos felt a little annoyed after hearing Eudoraâs explanation. Was this woman really dying to leave him so badly?
Would completing the project early make herself at ease or make him at ease? However, he also knew clearly he would never be able to compete against her in terms of stubbornness.
Amos pursed his lips and said after a long time, âSince you insist, we can go to work together. However, there is a rule in the company that employees canât bring their children to work.â
